27.Mar.2007 Himalayan glacier melting observed from space
The Himalaya, the ?Roof of the World?, source of the seven largest rivers of Asia are, like other mountain chains, suffering the effects of global warming.

To assess the extent of melting of its 33 000 km2 of glaciers, scientists have been using a process they have been pioneering for some years.

Satellite-imagery derived glacier surface topographies obtained at intervals of a few years were adjusted and compared.

2008 Election: The REAL Numbers

Using Internet keyword search-data to determine the popularity of presidential candidates may not be 'scientific' but it shows trends that are at the very least revealing - if not shocking - to both sides of the aisle.
A lost War; A Failed Presidency The President and the Republicans must take the blame for losing this war in Iraq.

They have had a free hand up until now + they still can't do anything right.
Bill O'Reilly: Perjury No Longer A Crime

On his Radio Factor today, Bill opened up by saying that Monica Goodling, an aide to Attorney General, was "smart" to refuse to testify in Senate hearings investigating the firing of eight federal prosecutors.

Cassini Probes the Hexagon On Saturn - kdawson 26 -
Riding with Robots sends us to a NASA page with photos of a little-understood hexagonal shape surrounding Saturn's north pole.

"This is a very strange feature, lying in a precise geometric fashion with six nearly equally straight sides," said Kevin Baines, member of Cassini's visual and infrared mapping spectrometer team.

"We've never seen anything like this on any other planet."

This structure was discovered by the Voyager probes over 20 years ago (here's an 18-year-old note on the mystery).

The fact that it's still in place means it is stable and long-lived. Scientists have no idea what causes the hexagon. It's nearly big enough to fit four earths inside — comfortably larger than Jupiter's Great Red Spot. The article has an animation of clouds moving within the hexagon captured in infrared light.
Mind How You Walk - Someone is Watching - Zonk 198 - mrbluze writes

"The Telegraph has an opinion article about the future of the extensive CCTV network in the United Kingdom.

Automated analysis of how and where people are walking or otherwise moving + what objects they carry or leave behind, flags the attention of security staff. This is meant to preempt a crime and make suspects identifiable even by gait.

The technology is of questionable public benefit since street crime has not decreased despite the presence of CCTV. 'An airport camera can be programmed to know what a departure hall should look like, with thousands of separate movements.

A single suitcase left for any length of time would trigger an alarm. This technology was developed for use in hotels to alert staff to a breakfast tray left outside a room.

Soon, it will be coming to a street near you. Why not go the whole hog and have microphones attached to cameras or embedded in street lights?'"

27.Mar.2007 Bush Administration’s Secret Plan To ‘Gut’ Endangered Species Act Revealed - Guest -

A 117-page document obtained by highlights a “secretive plan” by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to “gut” the Endangered Species Act.

The law, which is credited with saving the American Bald Eagle from extinction,” would be changed to limit the number of species that can be protected,” curtail preserved acres of wildlife habitat + “dilute legal barriers that protect habitat from sprawl, logging or mining.”

These proposed changes are the latest in the Bush administration’s attempts to weaken the Endangered Species Act in favor of special interests:

– Scientists pressured to alter findings. FWS scientists had been “forced to alter or withhold findings that would have led to greater protections for endangered species,” according to a 2005 survey.

– Political appointees overruled scientists’ findings in favor of industry positions. Deputy Assistant Secretary Julie MacDonald consistently “rejected staff scientists’ recommendations to protect imperiled animals and plants under the Endangered Species Act.” She called scientific studies “opinion” and told employees to treat them “as we would treat an industry publication.”

FWS lists fewer endangered species under Bush.

00.Jan.2000 -Since- President Bush has listed only 57 species as endangered — “fewer than any other administration in history.” George H. W. Bush listed 234 + Bill Clinton listed 512.

The proposed changes are also “littered with language lifted directly” from former Rep. Richard Pombo’s (R-CA) failed attempt in the 109th Congress to cripple the Endangered Species Act + mirrors legislation that current Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthrorne —

who oversees the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — attempted (and failed) to pass while in the Senate 00.000.1998. Ryan Powers
27.Mar.2007 Gonzales ‘dashed out’ of Fitzgerald presser. - Nico -

The Chicago Tribune reports:

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales dashed out of a Chicago news conference this afternoon in just two and a half minutes, ducking questions about how his office gave U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald a subpar rating.

Gonzales, who increasingly faces calls for his resignation, was here to promote a new ad campaign and had planned a 15-minute press availability.

He left after taking just three questions over a firing scandal consuming his administration.

Before leaving, Gonzales said he wanted to “reassure the American people that nothing improper happened here.”

UPDATE: At yesterday’s appearance in Denver, reporters were barred from asking any questions.
27.Mar.2007 GSA Administrator Lurita Doan To Employees: ‘You Are The Wind Beneath My Wings’ - Amanda -

Tomorrow, General Services Administration chief Lurita Doan will testify before Congress about her potentially illegal activity.

House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) has discovered that

00.Jan.2007 Doan asked “senior GSA officials to help ‘our candidates’ in the next elections through targeted public events.”

Doan discussed with GSA officials “how to exclude House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from an upcoming courthouse opening in San Francisco + how to include Republican Senator Mel Martinez.”

00.000.2006 -Last- summer, she also signed a $20,000 no-bid contract for a 24-page report “promoting GSA’s use of minority- and women-owned businesses.”

The firm was run by a woman with whom Doan “had a long-standing business relationship” and personal friendship + was eventually canceled by agency officials.

ThinkProgress has obtained Doan’s opening statement, which can be found HERE.

In it, she claims that the no-bid contract was simply a “procedural mistake in my zealous efforts to promote small and disadvantaged businesses.” She also denies ever encouraging her staff to engage in partisan politicking.

In a heartfelt e-mail yesterday, Doan alerted GSA employees that she will be testifying on Thursday and won’t forget to mention “the great work all of you have done this last year.” The e-mail:

Dear Fellow GSA employees:

As you may be aware, I will be appearing before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee this Wednesday at 10 a.m. (EDT) to answer questions raised in recent news articles.

I want you to know that I am grateful to have the opportunity to address these questions and set the record straight.

But I also look forward to letting the Committee know of the great work all of you have done this last year resulting in many “good news” stories about GSA + what this agency is doing to serve the American people.

Because it’s important to keep all of you informed on something as important as this hearing, I wanted to share my written testimony with you before it is released to the public.

Monica Goodling a graduate of Pat Robertson U. - Nico -

McClatchy reports on Goodling, the top aide to Alberto Gonzales who is taking the Fifth Amendment:

Goodling, 33, is a 1995 graduate Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., an institution that describes itself as “committed to embracing an evangelical spirit.”

She received her law degree at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va. Regent,

founded by “Christian” broadcaster Pat Robertson, says its mission is “to produce Christian leaders who will make a difference, who will change the world.”

E-mails show that Goodling was involved in planning the dismissals and in later efforts to limit the negative reaction.

As the Justice Department’s liaison to the White House, she could shed light on the extent of White House involvement in the dismissals.
Report shows broad efforts to block climate research. - Nico -

A new report documents “hundreds of instances” in which Bush administration officials throughout the government “engaged in White House-directed efforts to stifle, delay or dampen the release of climate change research that casts the White House or its policies in a bad light, says a new report that purports to be the most comprehensive assessment to date of the subject.”

The Government Accountability Project will release the report at a House Science and Technology Committee hearing tomorrow.

27.Mar.2007 Sen. Webb’s important news. - Nico -

It’s not about a gun. From his press conference today:

We do have an amendment on Iran coming up over the next couple of days. It’s something that I have worked on for a good bit of time.

I hope in all of the attention that’s been given to the situation with my staff, we don’t lose sight of the importance of that legislation.

And secondly, the other piece of legislation that I have been working on with Senator Hagel, which will come to a vote over the next two days.

Those are both important pieces of legislation + please, let’s not forget that.

Webb’s Iran bill would prevent President Bush from launching a war without explicit congressional approval. His Iraq bill with Hagel focuses on “redeployment, training and equipment.”

He’s right, those are important bills.
Warning: Endangered polar bears threaten ‘all 50 states.’ - Satyam -

The Western Business Roundtable (run by a former employee of Vice President Cheney) has sent out an activist email warning of the “major new threat to all businesses/industries” if the polar bear is added to the endangered species list:

Environmental extremists and activist lawyers are pushing the federal government to add the Polar Bear to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) list.

Such a listing would have major negative implications for virtually every business and industry operation in the USA.

The ESA is a very powerful law and could subject virtually any human activity in ALL 50 STATES to review and regulation by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) bureaucrats if the Polar Bear is listed as threatened or endangered . This will essentially declare “open season” for environmental lawyers to sue to block virtually any project that involves carbon dioxide emissions.

Over the dissent of their executive committee, the Vermont Democratic State Committee today (March 24) voted overwhelmingly to call on the Vermont Legislature to endorse an impeachment resolution that has been until now stuck in the House Judiciary Committee in Montpelier.
Although the Vermont Speaker of the House, Democrat Gaye Symington, does not want to take up the issue, her counterpart in the Senate, President Pro-Temp Peter Shumlin, called on the delegates to support impeachment. The vote was lopsided, with less than eight votes against, The State Committee also included Dick Cheney in their call for accountability + demanded that the legislature take up the issue in this session. … If Mr. Welch wants to get serious about ending this war, then he will recognize that Vermonters are on the right track with their calls for impeachment and he will honor our calls by working with his counterparts in Washington to initiate the impeachment proces.

27.Mar.2007 Ho Hum – BG clipped from A Glimpse Into Government

What those Justice Department emails really reveal. Of all the reasons to be outraged at Alberto Gonzales' Justice Department, it’s typical that it was the firing of a handful of U.S. attorneys that finally motivated Congress to perform its proper oversight function. The charge is that Gonzalez and Chief of Staff Kyle Sampson fired the attorneys for overtly political reasons, such as San Diego U.S. Attorney Carol Lam’s prosecution of GOP Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham, or Seattle U.S. Attorney John McKay’s refusal to launch a voter fraud investigation that may have overturned a Democratic victory in the 2004 governor’s race in Washington State.

Isham, who worked hand-in-glove with the late Peter Jennings + leads ABC News' investigative unit, applauded vigorously when Hitchens first appeared on stage +

Isham laughed with glee as Hitchens red-baited the booing crowd, telling them, "Albania's been overthrown, comrades."

When Galloway made his opening remarks, however, punctuating them by describing Hitchens as "something unique in natural history:

The Gulf of Tonkin Incident began with an “imaginary” attack by three North Vietnamese torpedo boats on the Maddox, a U.S. destroyer, in the Gulf of Tonkin on 2 August 1964. Two days later, that vessel and another U.S. destroyer in the area both reported themselves under renewed attack, although North Vietnam subsequently insisted that it hadn’t attacked — and no attack is now believed to have occurred on the 4th of August.
Within hours, Johnson ordered retaliatory air strikes on the bases of the North Vietnamese boats and announced, in a television address to the American public the same evening, that U.S. naval forces had been attacked. In a message he sent to Congress the following day, the President affirmed that “the North Vietnamese regime had conducted further deliberate attacks against U.S. naval vessels operating in international waters.”

These moves have underscored the resurgence of Russian interest in the Middle East.  Under Putin, Russia has sought to achieve three major goals in the region. The first is to demonstrate its renewed power and influence in an area where American influence is on the decline.

27.Mar.2007 Congressman Who Defends Rove’s Refusal To Testify Calls On President Clinton To Testify - Nico -

Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX), the ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee, says it’s perfectly acceptable for Karl Rove and other top White House aides to refuse testifying over the U.S. Attorney scandal.

Smith didn’t show up to last week’s hearing when the Judiciary Committee authorized subpoenas against Rove + others.

He called the session “political grandstanding” and said he would not help “provide votes for political subpoenas.”

Smith’s principled aversion to political grandstanding and belief in executive privilege was again on display yesterday, when he wrote a public letter to President Clinton asking him to testify about presidential pardons. An excerpt:

Dear President Clinton,

The House Committee on the Judiciary’s Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism + Homeland Security will hold a hearing on Thursday,

29.Mar.2007 10-00 a.m. in room 2141 of the Rayburn House Office Building on the appropriate use of the presidential pardon authority.

I would like to inquire as to your availability to testify at this hearing. […]

You are no stranger to controversial pardons, most notably the pardon of Marc Rich on your last day in office. I can think of no better person than you to speak on this issue. I believe your experience with exercising the pardon authority and defending it from intrusion by Congress would be invaluable to Members of the Subcommittee and I hope you are available to join us for this important hearing.

So, calling on Karl Rove to testify about a scandal involving possible illegal actions after evidence shows Rove and his deputies played a direct role is “political grandstanding.” This letter to Clinton isn’t.

For what it’s worth, President Clinton’s spokesman says Clinton is traveling on Thursday and won’t be available to attend the hearings.
27.Mar.2007 Flashback: Lott Said Claiming Executive Privilege Makes WH ‘Look Like They Are Hiding Something’ - Satyam -

Yesterday on Fox News Sunday, Senate Minority Whip Trent Lott (R-MS) defended the Bush administration’s refusal to allow Karl Rove and other top White House aides to testify before Congress under oath, in public + with a recorded transcript, claiming Bush had a “right to executive privilege.”

LOTT: The question is are the Democrats in the Senate interested in information or confrontation. In my mind, I think if the president would agree for his close advisers in the White House to testify before Congress under oath, he’d be making a huge mistake. There is a thing called executive privilege .

Watch it:

A vigorous defender of executive privilege today, Lott — like Tony Snow — has flip-flopped on executive privilege. Lott led the charge against President Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky saga, seeking out everything from tapes to sworn testimony from the White House. In March 1998, Lott appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press and lambasted the Clinton White House for invoking executive privilege:

LOTT: I think they’ve made a mistake by [invoking executive privilege]. I think it will damage the credibility. It looks like they are hiding something, so I think they shouldn’t have done it. I think it’s an improper use + the courts will have to decide whether or not that’s a proper use. And it may wind up in the Supreme Court, like it did in the Watergate matter.

As Think Progress has noted, Clinton was far more transparent than Bush when Congress requested that his aides testify, allowing 31 of his top aides to appear in sworn testimony in front of Congress compared to Bush’s one.

Lott was exactly right — invoking executive privilege makes the Bush White House “look like they are hiding something.”

27.Mar.2007 Gonzales Aide To Invoke Fifth Amendment - Nico -

The AP reports that Alberto Gonzales’ ex-chief of staff Kyle Sampson plans to invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse some Senate questions when he appears at a Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday.

UPDATE: It’s Goodling, not Sampson. “Monica Goodling, a counsel to U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales who helped coordinate the dismissals of eight U.S. attorneys, will invoke her constitutional right not to answer Senate questions about the firings, her lawyer said. … ‘The hostile and questionable environment in the present congressional proceedings is at best ambiguous; more accurately the environment can be described as legally perilous for Ms. Goodling,’ [her lawyer John Dowd] said.”

UPDATE II: For his part, Sampson will stay loyal to Bush and Gonzales in his testimony: “‘Kyle is very much a supporter of the president and the attorney general,’ one friend tells . ‘His main interest is in telling the truth.’ The friend says Sampson would ‘never do anything to hurt any of them’ and doesn’t believe his version of events will do that. Friends say Sampson believes innocent bungling was more to blame for the firestorm over the firings than anything malicious.”

UPDATE III: Atrios notes a reasonable comment from right-wing contributor Terry Jeffrey:

It’s not good, apparently her lawyer is trying to suggest they’re building a perjury trap for people in the Justice Department. But the truth is, Wolf, Congress - its Judiciary Committees - they have oversight over the Justice Department. It is inexcusable for people in the Justice Department to take the 5th amendment to avoid testifying in Congress. People there must go testify. There’s no question about it.
Gonzales Says He May ‘Find Out’ That Attorneys Were Purged For Political Reasons - Nico -

In an interview tonight, NBC News’ Pete Williams asked Attorney General Alberto Gonzales a simple question: “Can you be certain that none of these U.S. Attorneys were put on that list [to be fired] for improper reasons?”

Gonzales wouldn’t give a straight answer + in fact left open the possibility that attorneys were fired for partisan politics. “If I find out that, in fact, any of these decisions were motivated, the recommendations to me were motivated for improper reasons to interfere with the public corruption case, there will be swift and — there will be swift and decisive action. I can assure you that.”

Gonzales also suggested that other evidence of his personal involvement in the firings may come to light. “[T]here may have been other conversations [I had] about specifically about the performance of US attorneys” that I don’t remember, he said. Watch it:

Gonzales bemoaned critics who are questioning his credibility. “Let me begin with the attacks on my credibility, which really have pained me and my family. You know, I have grown up — I grew up with nothing but my integrity.” This coming from a man whose early career as counsel to then-Gov. George W. Bush included helping to get Bush excused from jury duty, “a situation that could have required the governor to disclose his then-secret 1976 conviction for drunken driving in Maine.”

27.Mar.2007 Rove’s PowerPoint: How Bush’s Architect Has Politicized The Federal Government - Nico -

27.Mar.2007 -today- The Washington Post reported that General Services Administration chief Lurita Doan + Karl Rove deputy Scott Jennings held a videoconference

26.Jan.2007 -earlier this year “with top GSA political appointees, who discussed ways to help Republican candidates.”

26.Jan.2007 Jennings, the White House’s deputy director of political affairs, gave a PowerPoint presentation of polling data about the 2006 elections.

When Jennings concluded his presentation to the GSA political appointees, Doan allegedly asked them how they could “help ‘our candidates’ in the next elections,” according to a

06.Mar.2007 letter to Doan from Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Waxman said in the letter that one method suggested was using “targeted public events, such as the opening of federal facilities around the country.”

These activities are now being investigated as potential violations of the Hatch Act, which prohibits partisan campaign activities on federal property.

They are the latest in a series of reports over the last several years about Rove’s controversial PowerPoint presentation:

– In June 2002, during the lead-up to the Iraq war authorization vote, an earlier version of Rove’s PowerPoint titled “The Strategic Landscape” was leaked:

Rove’s private PowerPoint presentations included advice to candidates to “focus on the war” in their fall campaigns.

When friends ask whether Bush really plans to invade Iraq, Rove has been known to reply, “Let me put it this way: If you want to see Baghdad, you’d better visit soon.”

– In January 2002, in a case similar to the current GSA controversy, Rove gave his presentation to regulators and policymakers in the Interior Department:

Rove met in January 2002 with Interior Department managers, where he discussed the importance of the regulatory actions in key states…to Republican candidates in the coming elections. The paper says Rove used a PowerPoint presentation also employed to solicit Republican donors.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Rove delivered his presentation after a trip to Oregon, where a Republican senator was facing reelection. “Republican leaders there wanted to support their agricultural base by diverting water from the river basin to nearby farms.” Within months, Rove had delivered his PowerPoint presentation and the Interior Department had authorized the water to be diverted over protests from environmentalists and Indian tribes.

27.Mar.2007 Waxman Demands Info Linking White House To Cunningham Probe And Possible Attorney Firing - Faiz -

Last Monday, ThinkProgress questioned whether fired U.S. attorney Carol Lam was targeting the White House prior to her dismissal.

We noted the following information that stemmed from Lam’s investigation into former Rep. Duke Cunningham (R-CA): the White House awarded a one-month, $140,000 contract to MZM contractor Mitchell Wade, who had never previously held a federal contract. Two weeks after Wade got paid, he used a cashier’s check for exactly $140,000 to buy a boat for a now-imprisoned congressman (Cunningham) at a price that the congressman had pre-negotiated.

Today, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) wrote a letter to White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten demanding “all contracts, subcontracts + task orders between MZM, Inc. … and the Executive Office of the President“:

According to the Federal Procurement Data System, the Executive Office of the President awarded a one-month, $140,000 contract to MZM, Inc. in July 2002. This appears to have been the company’s first prime contract with the federal government + it came only two months after MZM was placed on the General Services Administration’s Federal Supply Schedule. Published reports suggest that the contract was to provide computers and office furniture to the Office of the Vice President.

Subsequent investigations have uncovered serious inegularities + in some cases criminal conduct, by MZM employees, members of Congress + Bush Administration officials relating to MZM contracts with the federal government. To date, however, there has been no examination of the circumstances surrounding MZM’s initial federal contract and the role that White House officials played in the award and execution of the contract.

In the letter, Waxman requests that the White House provide documents relating to the White House-MZM contracts as soon as possible, but in no case later than Friday, April 6.

Multiple congressional investigations have uncovered evidence that White House appointees regularly communicate using email accounts provided by the Republican Party. As CREW has argued, such activity violates the Presidential Records Act, which requires that the White House preserve such records.

Today, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) issued letters to the Republican National Committee and the Bush-Cheney ‘04 Campaign directing them to preserve all emails by and for White House officials + to meet with the committee about the legal issues involved in conducting official government business using partisan email accounts. From Waxman’s letter:

The e-mails of White House officials maintained on RNC e-mail accounts may be relevant to multiple congressional investigations. For this reason, the Committee directs you to preserve all e-mails sent or received by White House officials using e-mail accounts under your control.

In addition, the Committee requests that you or your designee meet with Committee staff during the week of April 2,2007, to discuss the following five matters:

– Who has access to the e-mail accounts maintained by the RNC; […]

– What steps have been taken to preserve the e-mail accounts maintained by the RNC that have been used by White House officials;

– What assurance can the RNC provide the Committee that no e-mails involving official White House business have been destroyed or altered.

As Waxman points out in his letter, communications between criminal lobbyist Jack Abramoff and White House officials were conducted via nongovernmental e-mail accounts. “In at least one case, the e-mails indicate that these nonofficial accounts were being used because ‘to put this stuff in writing in their e-mail system…might actually limit what they can do to help us.’”

On Friday, National Journal reported that Karl Rove does almost all of his work with an RNC-based email account:

According to one former White House official familiar with Rove’s work habits, the president’s top political adviser does ‘about 95 %’ of his e-mailing using his RNC-based account. … The former White House official, speaking on background, said that although the RNC had a policy to purge e-mails after a short period of time, Rove’s e-mails on its system and those of a few other White House aides in sensitive positions were preserved by the RNC “to protect Karl.” Even with a policy of deleting e-mails from servers, information-technology experts say, organizations rarely erase data entirely.

UPDATE: The Carpetbagger Report has more + reminds readers of similar questions posed to the president’s communications office by Dan Froomkin.

UPDATE II: TPMMuckraker has more + Laura Rozen notes some potential security implications of Rove’s reliance on RNC email accounts.

"It couldn't have been better if we'd made it up," Dr Frogley told BBC News. "It was that good."

They found a huge increase in the number of fossil mites as the empire expanded from the Cuzco area in the early 1400s. A sudden drop in numbers corresponded with the collapse of the native population after the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors.

Historical accounts from the time also document that two-thirds of the llamas in the Cuzco area died of skin diseases.
White House Forced To Admit ‘Inconsistency’ Over Transcripts - Think Progress -

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino was forced to admit the “inconsistency” of the White House position on transcripts during today’s press briefing. ’s Suzanne Malveaux said, “No one has really missed the irony of what is happening here at the White House.”

During the briefing, Perino again defended the notion that Karl Rove and other top aides should be able to talk to Congress without a written transcript, calling the White House offer “quite generous and extraordinarily open.” But moments later, when asked about new documents showing Alberto Gonzales approved the U.S. Attorney firings, Perino pointed to transcripts of Gonzales’ remarks on that she claimed exonerated Gonzales.

A reporter pointed out that Perino’s defense of Gonzales “illustrate[s] perfectly why a transcript is necessary.” Perino responded, “I see your point,” sparking laughter from reporters. “I understand that some people would think that that is not a good idea + I understand the inconsistency of my own statement of referring back to a transcript.” Watch it: Digg It!

World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) überschlägt.

Klar ist wohl nur eines: In den Tropen drohen Tier- und Pflanzenarten nicht allein durch Abholzung und Brandrodung auszusterben;

Die Arbeit dreier Biologen erscheint in der neuen Ausgabe der Fachzeitschrift "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences".
