27.Nov.2006 Nanoknives To Be Used to Cut Cells - Zonk 23 -Roland Piquepaille writes
"American researchers have built a carbon nanotube knife.
According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), this nanoknife will be used to cut and study cells.
With this new tool, scientists and biologists will be able to make 3D images of cells and tissues for electron tomography, which requires samples less than 300 nanometers thick.
And as cells are usually stored in wax for dissection, the researchers plan to test their nanoknives on a block of wax later this year.
But read more for additional references and a picture of this nanoknife."
27.Nov.2006Brzezinski: The Baker Commission ‘Will Offer Some Procrastination Ideas For Dealing With The Crisis’ - Think Progress
Today on CNN, Former National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski issued a strong, preemptive criticism of the Baker Commission studying alternatives for Iraq.
Brzezinski said that while the commission “will probably come out with some sound advice on dealing with the neighborhood,” it essentially “will offer some procrastination ideas for dealing with the crisis.”
Brzezinski added that “This is a mistaken, absolutely historically wrong undertaking. The costs are prohibitive. If we get out sooner, there will be a messy follow-up after we leave.
It will be messy, but will not be as messy as if we stay.” Watch it:
Henry Kissinger, appearing on CNN with Brzezinski, said that “my attitude will be to support any bipartisan conclusion that would be arrived at” by the Baker commission.
Brzenzinski countered “And I’ve been arguing this on your program with Henry for the last three years.
And I invite viewers to go on the Internet and look what we have been saying, respectively.”
American Progress has a plan to stop procrastinating Iraq, Strategic Redeployment.
KISSINGER: Well, this is an issue that I believe that the Baker commission ought to address+certainly my attitude will be to support any bipartisan conclusion that would be arrived at.
But we have to navigate between a situation in which we are engaging in the civil war that is — well, the sectarian war that is going on inside Iraq.
And conditions in which we withdraw under circumstances in which, as we have seen in Lebanon + as we will see elsewhere,
whatever structure exists in the region, disintegrates + a vacuum will be created that will be filled by the nearest powerful country, which in this case is probably Iran.
BLITZER: This is the argument that so many of the administration supporters, Dr. Brzezinski, are making, that if the U.S. were to take your advice + get out, let’s say, over the next year, there would be this huge vacuum that Iran would presumably take charge of, but also that Iraq — and I want you to respond to this — would become the new Afghanistan, if you will, but even much more dangerous because of all the oil that Iraq has.
BRZEZINSKI: Well, it already is the new Afghanistan.
In fact, the lethality is much higher.
But the point to understand is that if you undertake a historically mistaken adventure, the longer you stick with it, the higher the cost you pay for it.
BLITZER: You’re making the comparison to Vietnam.
BRZEZINSKI: Yes, our — or to Algeria. And when Henry says that the Baker commission is going to help us resolve it, I think that’s an illusion.
The Baker commission will probably come out with some sound advice on dealing with the neighborhood, with Iran, with the Israeli- Palestinian issues, which is relevant but essentially will offer some procrastination ideas for dealing with the crisis.
The fact of the matter is, the undertaking itself is fundamentally wrong-headed.
And I’ve been arguing this on your program with Henry for the last three years. And I invite viewers to go on the Internet and look what we have been saying, respectively.
This is a mistaken, absolutely historically wrong undertaking. The costs are prohibitive. If we get out sooner, there will be a messy follow-up after we leave.
It will be messy, but will not be as messy as if we stay, seeking to win in some fashion

a story at the Mainichi daily news about an enterprising exchange student that got himself deported. Wang Yue Si, a Chinese student who went to Japan on a student visa, found himself in need of some spending money. Since he was a gamer, he decided to make some cash by selling virtual items online. He was so successful, the cops noticed. From the article: "He started selling items such as weapons and currency for online games through an Internet auction site in April this year, without obtaining the appropriate residency status. Wang, living in Kumamoto, has admitted that he sold the virtual goods for about 6 million yen ($US 1.3 Million), in violation of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Law.
A bank worker became suspicious when Wang regularly sent money back home to China and alerted police in August, prompting Kumamoto police officers to investigate the student."
27.Nov.2006The Soul of A New Microsoft - Zonk 33 -BusinessWeek Online is running a front page story
today about the new future of Microsoft. By 'looking beyond Windows', the company is utilizing fresh blood to come up with new products like the Zune, the Xbox 360+various online sites.
While the Zune probably isn't getting off to as successful a start as they might have liked, the article argues it's a positive sign that they're at least making the attempt. From the article:
"The point is that Microsoft needs to find its un-Vista. Several of them, in fact. The software giant is entering perhaps the greatest upheaval in its 30-year history.
New business models are emerging--from low-cost "open-source" software to advertising-supported Web services--that threaten Microsoft's core business like never before.
For investors to care about the company, it needs to find new growth markets. Its $44.3 billion in annual sales are puttering along at an 11% growth pace.
Its shares, which soared 9,560 % throughout the 1990 s,
00.000.2000 sunk 63% when the Internet bubble burst + they have yet to fully recover."

26.Nov.2006 Lott Attacks Rove, Says ‘I’ve Had Problems With Some Of His Conduct’ - Faiz
Earlier this month, rumors began swirling that Karl Rove may soon leave the White House, in part because he and incoming Senate Minority Whip Trent Lott (R-MS) have failed to get along.
The New York Times then reported that Rove would be staying on, but claimed the White House was compensating for his “limited influence in Congress.”
In an interview this morning on Fox News, Lott intensified the growing discord between he and Rove, stating, “I’ve had problems with some of the conduct of Karl Rove.”
He added that he has a good relationship with “most of the people” around the President. Watch it:
After Lott said in late
00.000.2002 that, had the country elected Strom Thurmond as President,
“we wouldn’t have had all these problems over all these years,”
Rove quickly orchestrated his ouster, supplanting him with White House-favorite Sen. Bill Frist (R-TN).
During the midst of the CIA leak scandal a few years later, Lott suggested that Rove should resign +
that Bush should “reach out and bring in more advice and counsel.” Transcript:
WALLACE: Senator, over the last four years, though, you did have some harsh things to say about the White House + I wonder whether you still stand by them. You said Karl Rove should resign.
Still believe that?
LOTT: Look, I’ve been in sort of a liberated mode.
Some people say that they hope in my new leadership position, I won’t give that up. I do believe in trying to be honest + respectful.
I’ve had problems with some of the conduct of Karl Rove.
But I have a good relationship with the President and most of the people around him.
I think Josh Bolten is doing a great job as his chief of staff. You know, the president + I can communicate + I want to see him succeed, because he is the President.
And we have to work with Democrats because they are in the majority.

26.Nov.2006 SCOTUS Set To Examine Combinatory Patents - Zonk 85 -eldavojohn writes
"The Washington Post is reporting that businesses are split on the current situation with patents in the United States. From the article: 'The court is scheduled to hear arguments Tuesday on what's obvious when older inventions are combined to create something new. The law says an invention that's "obvious" isn't patentable, but the definition isn't clear despite decades of litigation. The ambiguity, critics say, has led to an explosion of patents as companies stake claims on everything in sight, from strategies for avoiding taxes to golf ball designs. The result has been extensive and costly legal wrangling as companies of all sizes fight over who's infringing what. In some cases, small companies acquire patents not to develop new products but to sue for a quick windfall.' This sounds like some common criticism of the patent system that often pops up on Slashdot. The last part of the article mentions that most legal experts are expecting some changes to come of this. Hopefully soon we'll see some changes to the patent system for a better concept of intellectual property."

_00.000.0400 -v.

Olmert: Thank God for Dead Iraqis and U.S. Soldiers - Kurt Nimmo
On numerous occasions here, I have linked to Philip Zelikow's remark that the Iraq "war" was launched in the name of Israel's security, not because Saddam Hussein was a threat to the United States, as our unitary decider and his minions have declared ad nauseam since the invasion.
"Why would Iraq attack America or use nuclear weapons against us?
I'll tell you what I think the real threat (is) and actually has been
since 1990 —it's the threat against Israel," said Zelikow, the Bush political hack who worked for the NSC, the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, the
September 11th whitewash commission + the CIA, the latter as an official exonerator of politicized intelligence while at Harvard.
Naturally, the corporate media did not bother to mention Zelikow's remark about the invasion.
In fact, when people say such things, they are usually considered antisemites. https://www.uruknet.info/?p=28487
Jeffrey Blankfort: Jewish-American anti-Zionist journalist -SF-IMC
A few weeks before Israel's latest assault on Lebanon, SF-IMC interviewed local journalist, historian, photographer, radio producer+ anti-Zionist activist, Jeffery Blankfort.
For a variety of reasons, technical and other, we are only just now getting around to publishing it.
We apologize for the delay (...) The war in Iraq was clearly a war for Israel. The oil companies want stability. They're going to make money.
They look at the long run. High prices, low prices, they're going to make money. They control the market. Saddam Hussein would play ball with them.
Why the United States would not play ball with him is because the Neo-Cons, which is part of the Lobby, didn't want that. It's interesting.
Without the Lobby+without the orchestrated incubator story, we might not have had an intervention in Kuwait because at the time the Senate was split down the middle+when the incubator story came out, even Amnesty International believed it. People said, oh these horrible Iraqis+then there was no debate anymore.

IRAQ: Medical System Becomes Sickening -Dahr Jamail and Ali Al-Fadhily
After three and a half years of occupation, Iraq's medical system has sunk to levels lower than seen during the economic sanctions imposed after the first Gulf war
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said Iraqis are now extremely vulnerable in their health needs. "Several wars and 13 years of economic sanctions left a heavy toll on the nutrition of the population, on the social structure, on the economy and on the health infrastructure and services," according to a statement on the WHO website (...) The health situation in Iraq has been in constant decline since the beginning of the U.S.-backed UN-imposed sanctions
Iraqi doctors were reputed to be the best in the Middle East during the 1980's, but now they are short of medicines, medical equipment and funding to maintain the hospitals.
Saddam Hussein's regime managed to keep basic medical services free of charge for most Iraqis until the U.S.-led invasion 00.Mar.2003 .
There was a hospital in almost every town. Surgeries were carried out free of charge.

Giving Thanks in the Shadow of the Terror War -Chris Floyd
The "War on Terror" represents a horribly, monstrously wrong turn for the United States, Britain+the world. Like its offshoot, the aggression in Iraq, the Terror War is a strategic disaster of mind-boggling proportions, a moral, political and cultural failure so immense as to be almost unfathomable, an all-corrupting, counterproductive policy of resounding stupidity. We have not even begun to comprehend the scope and depth -- and duration -- of the harm that this reckless, witless, ignorant campaign has wrought. Tyranny, bankruptcy, decay, division, murder, cowardice and deceit -- these have been the hallmarks and the products of the Terror War launched by George W. How bad the situation is in Iraq is suggested by this email I just got from a professional who used to be in Iraq but now is in a nearby country: ' It is desperate in Iraq, worse then ever and there is no end in sight. I had lunch with [a former high ranking medical educator in Iraq] two days ago. [He]noted that Iraq no longer has neuro-surgeons, no cardiac surgeons, few pediatric doctors - they are all gone, killed or fled to neighboring countries like him. He was given seven days to get out or be killed. He is one of the lucky ones. He and his family have an opportunity for a new life in the US. But what about all the others. Where are they to go? Another friend, a Sunni sheikh of the Shammar tribe noted to me that thousands of former officers are prepared to assault the G[reen] Z[one]. It is no longer a matter of can they do it, they are only mulling over the timing. The breach of the Green Zone security the other day was a test of their ability to get in+not a real attempt at a coup, though it is reported as such. Every Iraqi I talk to says unambiguously that the resistance attached to the former regime would take out the Shiite militias with barely a fight, but that the resistance will not commit wholesale revenge against the Shiite population. They just want to get rid of the "carpet baggers" from Iran. ' ... https://www.uruknet.info/?p=28503

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Thursday, 23.Nov.2006
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice
In a dispatch posted at 1:59pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US occupation troops seized several private homes in al-Fallujah and threw the residents out, turning the houses into a US camp. The al-Fallujah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the Iraqi puppet police as saying that US troops surrounded a number of rural houses in the an-Nu'aymiyah area south of al-Fallujah at dawn on Thursday. The Americans then threw the families of the four houses out in the street and took over their homes, turning them into an American Marine camp and posting snipers atop their roofs. US forces had commandeered other houses in the city earlier in the month... https://www.uruknet.info/?p=28499
Thanksgiving a Time of Remembrance
John Calvin Jones, www.virtualcitizens.com
...And so today, Bush has ordered the invasion and conquest of Iraq. Hundreds of thousands killed by American bombs and bullets – some burned alive with chemical weapons like white phosphorous and bunk busting bombs. On the 2006 campaign trail, Bush openly celebrated the fact that now Iraqi oil was not in the hands of people who might raise the price on Americans – implying that record profits for his friends in the oil business are now acceptable as the petroleum economy is safely in the hands of Americans instead of, oh God no, the indigenous peoples of the world. Instead of sowing salt into the fields of Iraq, Bush's bounty has irradiated the fertile land between two rivers with depleted uranium … now cancers grow and babies are deformed in record numbers.

Iraq's Leaders Appeal for Unity After Attacks Claim 161 Lives in Baghdad's Bleakest Day
Airport closed and curfew imposed after bombings
A barrage of car bombs and mortar rounds aimed at three street markets in Sadr City, Baghdad's biggest Shia district, brought carnage to one of the most densely populated suburbs of Iraq's capital yesterday and the heaviest loss of life on a single day in the country's sectarian war. At least 160 people were killed when at least five cars packed with explosives were detonated in rapid succession. The authorities imposed an immediate curfew throughout the capital to prevent revenge attacks+ late last night closed the international airport to all commercial flights. Leaders of Iraq's three main communities stood side by side on national television appealing for calm.

ANTI ZIONISM=ANTI SEMITISM? IT SEEMS SO TO SOME
I have in recent days seen and heard ridiculous charges leveled against Gilad Atzmon, claims that he is an anti semite and should not have been invited to speak for the Scottish Palestinian Solidarity Campaign in Edinburgh last night. There were protests coming from renowned anti zionists in Britain as well as from the zionist 'alert rag' Engage. Engage, the very source that referred to me as an anti semite a few weeks ago has now added Atzmon to their 'list'. All I can say is that if Engage's positions on who or who is not an anti Semite are being taken as Gospel Truth by anti zionists, then our movement is in serious trouble. Atzmon is a musician not a politician. He is an anti zionist. That's all that matters. If we cannot all work together to defeat the zionist beast,we lose...meaning occupation wins... is that our new agenda? I don't think so...
Below is an excerp of the speech he gave last night.... can any true anti-zionist say they do not want this man's participation in the struggle?... https://www.uruknet.info/?p=28492
IRAQ: Singing "the devil's music" will get you killed
Youssef Jabry, 32, is a singer who loves western music. He sings for a living in parties, weddings and all sorts of gatherings. But what was once a dream job has become a nightmare with the rise of Islamic extremists who say western music is unreligious and must be prohibited. Six months ago, Jabry's brother, Muhammad, who was also a singer, was killed by such extremists. "They broke into our house shouting his name loudly. They carried him off and a week later we found his decapitated body with a note saying that this was the destiny of those who sing American words," Jabry said (...) Jabry fondly remembers the "good days" during former president Saddam Hussein's time when his voice was heard in many parties. "Once I sang to Saddam at his birthday party and got good money for it because he liked my voice. Today, the only thing I get for singing in English is a threat or a bullet as payment," he said... https://www.uruknet.info/?p=28489
On human shields (and Human Rights Watch)
I've been having a bit of an email exchange today with Sarah Leah Whitson, the director of the Middle east Division of Human Rights Watch, over their decision, yesterday, to rush out a press release criticising the Gazans' latest use of nonviolent mass action to halt israel's resumed practice of punitive home demolitions in Gaza (...) I still strongly question why Sarah Leah and the rest of HRW's very comfortably paid apparatchiks rushed to get this very definitive and accusatory press release out so very quickly. Especially given that over the past four months HRW had said not one word about Israel's horrible, very harmful resumption, back in July, of the practice of demolishing large numbers family homes in the Gaza Strip for purely punitive purposes... https://www.uruknet.info/?p=28488

In the deadliest attack since the beginning of the Iraq war, suspected Sunni-Arab militants used three suicide car bombs and two mortar rounds on the capital's Shiite Sadr City slum to kill at least 145 people and wound 238 on Thursday, police said. The Shiites responded almost immediately, firing 10 mortar rounds at the Abu Hanifa Sunni mosque as Azamiya, killing one person and wounding seven people in their attack on the holiest Sunni shrine in Baghdad. Beginning at 3:10 p.m., the three car bomb attackers blew up their vehicles one after another, at 15 minute intervals, hitting Jamila market, al-Hay market and al-Shahidein Square in Sadr City. Gunmen raid Iraq health ministry -CNN
Gunmen have attacked the health ministry in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, sparking heavy gun battles with guards. About 30 gunmen are trying to take over the building, Iraqi TV reported. Reports said they were believed to be Sunni Muslim insurgents. Shia militias were suspected of a mass kidnapping of education ministry staff last week. Deputy Minister Hakim Zamili told reporters by telephone that that gunmen were in positions outside the health ministry building in the Bab al-Muadham area and were opening fire. "Terrorists are attacking the building with mortars, machinegun fire and we can even see snipers. Any employee who leaves the building will be killed," Mr Zamili he told Reuters. First of all,
what happened to our constitution? We used to have rights as human beings. Now we're just treated like filthy animals.
We've reduced our constitution to nothing more than dog-dirt.
I never asked to be part of Bush's Fascist regime. Yeah I voted for that goofball after 9/11,
we all did. But I never expected him to turn into a dictator.
Didn't think he had the brains."
"And that reminds me, all you people better do some more investigating into 9/11 because its not what you think it was, your damn future depends on it.
The media is lying to you, I promise you that.
Now we have secret prisons where we torture prisoners who were detained illegally.
They call it waterboarding. I call it sickening.
We start a war with a soverign country on the basis of lies, then wonder why our soldiers are coming back in pieces.
America, wake up damn it."
"We've been taken over by a corporate puppet. 9/11 was an inside job to spur arms sales.
To start a war with Iraq so we could steal their oil.
Bush and the corporations stole the idea from the Hitler handbook.
Look it up if you don't believe me, 9/11 was our Reichstag fire.
I'm an American dammit, this used to be a nation of laughter and fun.
But some ugly people at the top have turned it into a nation of terror."
After his speech to the court, Hank is hauled off to life sentence in a concentration camp....

Why people think that rivals are better looking than they really are IF YOU have ever sat alone in a bar, depressed by how good-looking everybody else seems to be, take comfort—it may be evolution playing a trick on you. A study just published in Evolution and Human Behavior by Sarah Hill, a psychologist at the University of Texas, Austin, shows that people of both sexes reckon the sexual competition they face is stronger than it really is. She thinks that is useful: it makes people try harder to attract or keep a mate. https://www.economist.com/science/displaystory.cfm?story_id=8313758

26.Nov.2006 Nothing There - BG
What ideas are behind the Conservative Movement? Nothing there.
Via Digby, I learned of an article by a conservative, Austin Bramwell, who was asked to resign from the board of directors of National Review by Bill Buckley.
For all their philippics, disgruntled conservatives remain decidedly of the movement, if not in it, for they share with the mainstream the fundamental conceit that conservatism exists to advance some core set of beliefs or principles. Like a soul animating a body, these principles allegedly guide, smooth or grim, all the movement's institutions, programs, publications, alliances, tactical feints+shifting positions. Hence, even those outside the mainstream keep the faith that the movement will not stray forever.
Conservatism, in this view, can no more betray its principles than the God of Abraham can betray His covenant... Source: https://vaguenihilism.blogspot.com/2006/11/nothing-there.html

Peter Dale Scott gave an excellent talk 11/18/2006 at the COPA (Coalition on Political Assassinations) Regional Meeting in Dallas, Texas.
Scott points out similarities that he has encountered as a researcher studying JFK and 9/11+covers a wide assortment of anomalies and evidence in this one hour presentation.
Scott talks about Continuity of Government, the a priori existence of "lone nut" profiles to offer cover for covert operations + how drug trafficking lurks in the background all the while -
how "Al Qaeda" is linked to this drug traffic, how it was dismissed by the 9/11 Commission + the relevance of the case of Sibel Edmonds as well as that of Indira Singh.
Scott focuses on Cheney's activities on the morning of 9/11,
conflicting accounts of his actions that day+offers an avenue of research for dedicated data hounds that relates to both JFK and 9/11 - archived logs of White House communications that are kept by a
specific government office - the White House Communications Agency.
During the talk, Scott mentions the Mary Ferrell Foundation – this name may be unfamiliar to 9/11 researchers,
so here is a link to the Foundation's website which may offer a model of sorts for future 9/11 archiving activities. https://www.maryferrell.org/wiki/index.php/ Main_Page
For me, this speech was the highlight of the conference, as I have been following Scott's work for a couple of years now.
I can recommend his books that I have read so far; The War Conspiracy (1972) + Drugs Oil and War (2003). Due to be published next year is Scott's latest on 9/11;
The Road to 9/11. I'm sure it will have the same top-notch scholarship & analysis as his other work.

9/11. A correction: Scott calls Lance's book: A Thousand Years of Deception, but the book is A Thousand Years for Revenge.) https://groups.yahoo.com/group/911_truth_DFW/message/467

26.Nov.2006Science Teachers’ Organization Refuses To Accept Copies of Inconvenient Truth - Nico
In tomorrow’s Washington Post, global warming activist Laurie David writes about her effort to donate 50,000 free DVD copies of An Inconvenient Truth
(which she co-produced) to the National Science Teachers Association. The Association refused to accept the DVDs:
In their e-mail rejection, they expressed concern that other “special interests” might ask to distribute materials, too; they said they didn’t want to offer “political” endorsement of the film;
and they saw “little, if any, benefit to NSTA or its members” in accepting the free DVDs. …
[T]here was one more curious argument in the e-mail: Accepting the DVDs, they wrote, would place “unnecessary risk upon the [NSTA] capital campaign, especially certain targeted supporters.”
As it turns out, those supporters already include “special interests,” including Exxon-Mobil, Shell Oil+the American Petroleum Institute, which have given millions in funding to the NSTA.
And while the NSTA showed no interest in helping educators get copies of Al Gore’s movie (which scientists gave “five stars for accuracy“), it has distributed oil industry-funded “educational” content,
like this video produced by the American Petroleum Institute:
The first line of “Fuel-less”: “You’re absolutely not going to believe this, but almost everything I have that’s really cool comes from oil!” (Watch a video clip.)
As Laurie David notes, an API memo leaked to the media
00.000.1998 explains the motivation behind such videos:
“Informing teachers/students about uncertainties in climate science will begin to erect barriers against further efforts to impose Kyoto-like measures in the future.”

Before adjourning last week, the Senate passed a resolution praising the accomplishments of the late progressive Senator from Minnesota Paul Wellstone, who died in a tragic plane crash on October 25, 2002.
The measure introduced by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) stated that “Senator Paul Wellstone should be remembered for his compassion and leadership on social issues throughout his career,” particularly his tireless work to advance mental health parity for all Americans.
While introducing the resolution on the Senate floor, Durbin recalled one particular moment that stood out in his mind that exemplified Wellstone’s vision and courage:
I can recall the last time I saw him. He was a few feet away from me here. It was the night we cast our vote on the Iraqi war. It was a vote that was a hard one. …
Twenty-three of us voted against the war that night. I was one, Paul Wellstone was another. It was even later than now that night+I came to the well on the floor to say goodbye to Paul because we were both off for the reelection campaigns of 4 years ago. I came over to wish him well, and I said, “Paul, I hope that vote doesn’t cost you the election.” He said, “You know, it is OK if it does because that is what I believe and that is who I am. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO), one of the leading voices on immigration for the right, claims President George W. Bush is plotting to merge the U.S. with Mexico and Canada. An excerpt from WorldNetDaily:
Tancredo lashed out at the White House’s lack of action in securing U.S. borders+said efforts to merge the U.S. with both Mexico and Canada is not a fantasy.
“I know this is dramatic — or maybe somebody would say overly dramatic — but I’m telling you, that everything I see leads me to believe that this whole idea of the North American Union, it’s not something that just is written about by right-wing fringe kooks. It is something in the head of the president of the United States, the president of Mexico, I think the prime minister of Canada buys into it. …
You might think the right would immediately repudiate this kind of conspiracy theory. You’d be wrong. The National Review’s Andy McCarthy came to Tancredo’s defense:
This is not a fringe. It’s a wave. It’s fine to disagree with Rep. Trancredo; it’s wrong to treat him like a lunatic when he is anything but.
[I]t’s not unreasonable for people to look at Bush’s immigration policies and worry that he is insufficiently alert to the internationalist pressures (what John Fonte calls “transnational progressivism”) vigorously challenging the traditional understanding of sovereignty on many fronts.
Fox’s Neil Cavuto recently said Tancredo “owns” the issue of immigration predicted that “if he were to run for president, he just might well be president.”

Aaron Russo's 'America: Freedom to Fascism' Opens To Sold Out Theaters
Film Grossed approximately $90,000 This Past Week In Test Markets
LOS ANGELES - It was a rush to the box office last week as Aaron Russo's hot documentary "America: Freedom to Fascism" opened in test markets in New York, Chicago, Austin, Tampa + Kansas City.
The estimated box office last week was approximately $90,000.
Russo used the test markets to evaluate audience response before spreading it across the country.
The film was met with standing ovations and excellent exit polls. Russo feels that the prints could be technically improved, so he has made a decision to pull the film from theaters as of last night (Thursday). He will be upgrading the quality of the prints and releasing the film this September in time for the political season.
The film will be released in many theaters across the country.
In Austin, TX the Friday evening show sold out by mid-morning. Chicago's Landmark Century Centre sold out their Saturday evening show so quickly, they had to move it to a larger room.
"I am gratified by the consistent standing ovations that the film is getting throughout America. The exit ratings have been incredibly high," said Russo. "The people of America are eager to learn the truth about how our government functions. It is time for the American people to understand that the Supreme Court has consistently ruled that the 16th Amendment did not give the government the authority to impose a direct unapportioned tax on the labor of the people. The IRS Code does not trump Supreme Court decisions. The Supreme Court has defined income+it is neither wages nor labor."
The film, which has strong appeal to niche markets, has received phenomenal support from the grassroots and online community.

"In Plastics' Day in Surgery, Red Herring reports that an international team of U.S. and German researchers has developed a new kind of plastic that can shift between three different shapes when the temperature increases. Even if these polymeric triple-shape materials have not emerged from the lab, they could eventually be employed as removable 'stents' and self-closing fasteners used by surgeons and more generally by the healthcare industry. The Emerging Tech ZDNet blog has additional references and pictures of these morphing plastics."

26.Nov.2006 https://www.cannonfire.blogspot.com/ Some have hinted that racism underlies our oft-voiced discomfort with the Harman/AIPAC connection.
That charge is unfounded.
Israel is a foreign government+AIPAC has been at the center of an espionage scandal which has already sent one man to prison for thirteen years.
That man, Lawrence Franklin, met with Iran's notorious Manuchar Ghorbanifar at the behest of the equally-notorious Michael Ledeen.
Many suspect that Ledeen is trying to foment war with Iran, although he denies the accusation.
Some believe that AIPAC helped to arrange the transfer of American-made dual-use technology - including "case management software" - to Israel.
Israel, in turn, is said to have passed this technology on to other parties, including Russia + China - even to terrorist organizations.
This accusation, if true, means that history has repeated itself:
Back in the 1980 s, Israeli technicians placed a back door into the PROMIS case management software, which was then sold (via third parties) to a number of foreign governments.
As a result, Israel could peek at the data passing through intelligence bureaus around the world.
A neat trick, no doubt about it. But did it work to our benefit?

26.Nov.2006 https://www.cannonfire.blogspot.com/ Few have noticed that Saudi Arabia is now making noises about becoming directly involved with the Iraqi quagmire:
[Saudi advisor Nawaf] Obaid described widespread interference by Iranian security forces within Iraq.
He urged Saudi Arabia, which is building a 560-mile wall on its border with Iraq, to warn Iran "that if these activities are not checked,” Saudi Arabia "will be forced to consider a similar overt and covert program of its own."
In Damascus, a Syrian analyst close to the Assad government warned that other countries would intervene if Iraq descended into full-scale civil war.
“Iran will get involved,
Turkey will get involved,
Saudi Arabia, Syria,” said the analyst, who spoke on condition he not be identified further.
26.Nov.2006 https://www.cannonfire.blogspot.com/ Sibel Edmonds' important new piece, "The Hijacking of a Nation" -- the first of two parts.
She addresses the undue influence wielded by foreign nations as they lobby congressfolk and others.
Much of her discussion focuses on Saudi Arabia. The excellent documentary 911: Press for Truth (see ad on the right) implies that Pakistan was the nation censored from the 911 commission report. Edmonds, however, confirms our original suspicion that Senator Bob Graham was referring to Saudi Arabia in his cryptic pronouncements.
Of course, the Saudis have used Pakistan as a stalking horse in the past, especially in the development of nuclear technology: Further, there are indications of Saudi’s active role as a player in the nuclear black-market.
According to Mohammed Khilewi, first secretary at the Saudi mission to the United Nations
00.Jul.1994 -until- the Saudis have sought a bomb since 00.000.1975 ;
00.000.1985-00.000.1990they sought to buy nuclear reactors from China, supported Pakistan's nuclear program+contributed $5 billion to Iraq's nuclear weapons program.
While the U.S. government vocally opposes the development or procurement of ballistic missiles by non-allies,
it has been very quiet in Saudi Arabia’s case, considering the fact that it possesses the longest-range ballistic missiles of any developing country.
Why are we willing to initiate WWIII. over Iran's nuclear program, when we know that it was the Saudis who funded Pakistan's Islamic bomb and helped set up the A.Q. Kahn network?
We've heard many times that factions within the Saudi government have helped the terror network.
How can we square this effort with the known fact that Osama has pledged to overthrow the Saudi dynasty?

25.Nov.2006 World's Largest Supercooled Magnet Activated - Zonk 108 -- to mention a C|Net
article about the activation of the world's largest superconducting electromagnet. Switched on today at Geneva's CERN lab, the experiment is part of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) project. The magnet, called ATLAS, worked on its first start up. From the article: "In use, the magnet will be used to bend the paths of particles formed from the collision of protons or lead ions accelerated to near light speeds in 27km diameter subterranean contra-rotating circular beams. The ATLAS experiment is one of five in the LHC+engages 1,800 scientists from 165 universities and laboratories in 35 countries."
25.Nov.2006 The Great Firewall of Canada - Zonk 232 -engtech writes
"Canadian carriers Bell Aliant, Bell Canada, MTS Allstream, Rogers, SaskTel, Shaw, TELUS+Videotron have all opted in to a blacklist, dubbed Project Cleanfeed Canada, provided by Cybertip.ca, the Canadian tip-line against child exploitation. The idea of having a national blacklist sends shivers down my spine. I'm a pessimist, I believe that any form of censorship will eventually be abused despite it's good intentions." Besides engtech's post on the subject, Dr. Michael Geist has some considered comments about this issue. From that post: "Critics are quick to draw parallels to Internet censorship in countries such as China. However, those countries involve state-based content blocking, with no transparency or legal recourse. In fact, several democracies - most notably Australia - have established limited blocking rules, while British Telecom, the UK's largest ISP, voluntarily blocks child pornography as part of its CleanFeed program. Even with various legal safeguards, many Canadians would undoubtedly find the blocking of any content distasteful. Yet to do nothing is to leave in place an equally unpalatable outcome that silences those would speak out against unlawful hate speech for fear of personal harm."
25.Nov.2006Laser Turns All Metals Black - Zonk 266 -Roland Piquepaille writes
"Researchers at the University of Rochester have found a way to change the properties of almost any metal by using a femtosecond laser pulse. This ultra-intense laser blast creates true 'black metal' from copper, gold or zinc by forming nanostructures at the surface of the metal. As these nanostructures capture radiation, the metals turn black. And as the process needs surprisingly low power, it could soon be used for a variety of applications, such as stealth planes, black jewels or car paintings. But read more for additional references and a picture of this femtosecond laser system."

"It's been more than 100 years since the discovery of the 2,000-year-old Antikythera Mechanism, but researchers are only now figuring out how it works." From the article: "Since its discovery 00.000.1902, the Antikythera Mechanism — with its intricate and baffling system of about 30 geared wheels — has been an enigma... During the last 50 years, researchers have identified various astronomical and calendar functions, including gears that mimic the movement of the sun and moon. But it has taken some of the most advanced technology of the 21st century to decipher during the past year the most advanced technology of the 1st century B.C."
25.Nov.2006 Web-Based Assistant Changes the Face of Dutch Politics - Zonk 163 -
- "The elections held in The Netherlands on Wednesday have shaken the country.
Almost 10 million votes were cast+statistics show that a full half of those who voted used a popular web-based voter guide.
This guide is operated by the independent institute for the public and politics. Advice is given to the visitor upon answering a number of multiple choice questions on some common political topics.
Statistically, a number of people ended up scoring in support of populist parties both on the far left and far right. No bias was reported to exist in the test itself.
However, these parties have ended up with an unforeseen amount of power as a result of the election. The voter participation was high+the web-based advisories may have motivated people with little interest in politics to cast a vote anyway.
Can politics be simplified to a ten minute test?"
