03.Feb.2005
Hanjour's precise path from family farm to terrorist plot remains obscured. But by early 1996, he somehow had developed a desire to learn to fly in the United States.
It was a period when other members of the al-Qaida network were becoming pilots. Two years earlier, the Armed Islamic Group, which would fuse with al-Qaida, hijacked an Air France plane in Algeria with the intention of crashing it into the Eiffel Tower. They were stopped by French special forces at the Marseilles airport.
03.Feb.2005 Much of the structural steel from the WTC was sold to Alan D. Ratner of Metal Management of Newark, N.J., and the New York-based company Hugo Neu Schnitzer East.
Ratner, who heads the New Jersey branch of the Chi ca go-based company, sold the WTC steel to overseas companies, reportedly selling more than 50,000 tons of steel to a Shanghai steel company known as Baos

Evidently, the energy source that shook the ground beneath the towers was many times more powerful than the total potential energy released by the falling mass of the towers. The question is: What was that energy source?
While steel is often tested for evidence of explosions, despite numerous eyewitness reports of explosions in the towers, the engineers involved in the FEMA-sponsored building assessment did no such tests.

03.Feb.2005
The two unexplained spikes are more than 20 times the amplitude of the other seismic waves associated with the collapses and occurred in the East-West seismic recording as the buildings began to fall.
Experts cannot explain why the seismic waves peaked before the towers actually hit the ground.
Asked about these spikes, seismologist Arthur Lerner-Lam, director of Columbia University's Center for Hazards and Risk Research told AFP, "This is an element of current research and discussion. It is still being investigated." URL:

03.Feb.2005
Seismographs at Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, N.Y., 21 miles north of the WTC, recorded strange seismic activity on Sept. 11 that has still not been explained.
While the aircraft crashes caused minimal earth shaking, significant earthquakes with unusual spikes occurred at the beginning of each collapse.
The Palisades seismic data recorded a 2.1 magnitude earthquake during the 10-second collapse of the South Tower at 9:59:04 and a 2.3 quake during the 8-second collapse of the North Tower at 10:28:31.
However, the Palisades seismic record shows that-as the collapses began-a huge seismic "spike" marked the moment the greatest energy went into the ground. The strongest jolts were all registered at the beginning of the collapses, well before the falling debris struck the Earth.
These unexplained "spikes" in the seismic data lend credence to the theory that massive explosions at the base of the towers caused the collapses. URL:

03.Feb.2005
Five days after the collapse, on Sept. 16, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) used an Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) to locate and measure the site's hot spots.
Dozens of hot spots were mapped, the hottest being in the east corner of the South Tower where a temperature of 1,377 degrees F was recorded.
This is, however, less than half as hot at the molten steel in the basement.
The foundations of the twin towers were 70 feet deep. At that level, 47 huge box columns, connected to the bedrock, supported the entire gravity load of the structures. The steel walls of these lower box columns were four inches thick.
Videos of the North Tower collapse show its communication mast falling first, indicating that the central support columns must have failed at the very beginning of the collapse. Loizeaux told AFP, "Everything went simultaneously."
11.Sep.2001 10:29 the entire top section of the North Tower had been severed from the base + began falling down," Hufschmid writes.

"If the first event was the falling of a floor, how did that progress to the severing of hundreds of columns?"
Asked if the vertical support columns gave way before the connections between the floors + the columns, Ron Hamburger, a structural engineer with the FEMA assessment team said, "That's the $64,000 question."
Loizeaux said, "If I were to bring the towers down, I would put explosives in the basement to get the weight of the building to help collapse the structure." URL:
https://www.thetruthseeker.co.uk/article.asp?ID=2580
03.Feb.2005
Peter Tully, president of Tully Construction of Flushing, N.Y., told AFP that he saw pools of "literally molten steel" at the World Trade Center.
Tully was contracted after the Sept. 11 tragedy to re move the debris from the site.

Tully called Mark Loizeaux, president of Controlled Demolition, Inc. (CDI) of Phoenix, Md., for consultation about removing the debris.

CDI calls itself "the innovator + global leader in the controlled demolition + implosion of structures."
Loizeaux, who cleaned up the bombed Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, arrived at the WTC site two days later + wrote the clean-up plan for the entire operation. URL:

URL: https://www.spiegel.de/wissenschaft/mensch/0,1518,druck-339680,00.html

There are many ways the public can abdicate it's autonomy in order to shirk the duties that come with freedom. The practice of hiring of bumbling thugs to "protect" us has long withstood the test of time. Our freedom has not. As we approach the increasingly corporate millennium, we can look forward to life in a private prison that encompasses all society and subjugates every moment of daily life: work, a prison of measured time, and play, a supervised activity. For this we have sacrificed our birthright. To this end we even hire our own guards. Guards who work for pay, not for us. Guards who have their own agenda. And a lot of them aren't even good at it. This is a mixed blessing. They, themselves, are a curse.

01.Feb.2005 Colin Powell, outgoing secretary of state, says he would like to see US troops leave Iraq "as quickly as possible" but that the strength of the insurgency does not allow the Bush administration to set a timeframe for a withdrawal this year. Mr Powell told National Public Radio yesterday the US leadership had been "in almost non-stop meetings for the last couple of days" reviewing the security problem while coalition forces were adjusting their "tactics and strategy and deployments". "It's not possible right now to say that by the end of 2005, we'll be down to such and such a number. It really is dependent upon the situation," he said, referring to the training of the new Iraqi army and police.URL:

Following an investigation by the Venezuelan Ministry of Interior and reports and testimony from journalists and other knowledgeable political observers it was determined that the highest echelons of the Colombian government, including President Uribe, planned and executed this onslaught on Venezuelan sovereignty. In her confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, "Condi" Rice personified the Bush administration's delusion-based "war against terror." Whenever a senator's question penetrated to the harsh reality, Condi waffled and evaded, choosing to protect at the expense of her reputation the neocon delusion that invading Iraq was the "right thing to do." Exasperated, Senator Barbara Boxer objected to Condi's "continuing assault on reality." Condi Rice's outstanding qualification for Secretary of State in the Bush administration is that she is the complete sycophant. She fits right in. Jumah Al-Dousari, a mentally ill Bahraini national was detained at Guantanamo Bay. He used to say silly things and impersonate the soldiers. One day, he impersonated a female soldier and the Initial Reaction Force team was called. A military police sergeant did a knee drop onto Jumah's back... with his full weight of about 240 pounds... the others were punching and kicking Jumah... Jumah had had an operation and had metal rods clamped together in his stomach... The sergeant was punching him in the face... His nose was broken. He pushed his face and he smashed it into the concrete floor. There was blood everywhere." President Bush admitted Tuesday that his administration would be bolstered with better Human intelligence. "Human intelligence," Mr. Bush said, "is the one thing my administration needs more of. Being able to read the mail, memos + all that paperwork stuff. It would be so much faster if we all had more intelligence." The lack of human intelligence has been blamed by many for the mistaken belief in stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction in the former Iraqi republic. "I really, really, really thought they had WMDs over there. All the signs pointed to that. And I want to point out that we have, to a large degree, dismantled the Al Qaeda network. Now if we could just dismantle that Al-Jazeera network!," Mr. Bush went on. "When I was a boy I liked to dismantle things. Trouble was I couldn't put them back together! Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh reported in The New Yorker magazine this week that the Pentagon has already secretly sent in forces to Iran to identify possible future military targets. In the article, titled “The Coming Wars: What the Pentagon Can Now Do in Secret,” Hersh wrote that he had been repeatedly told by intelligence and military officials, on condition of anonymity that "the next strategic target was Iran." The covert reconnaissance missions have been underway since at least last summer, aided by Pakistan as well as Israel. According to Hersh's article, the president has authorized the Pentagon to send secret commando forces into as many as 10 nations in the Middle East and South Asia. These forces could potentially carry out combat operations or even terrorist acts. Bush reportedly used the Pentagon for the missions instead of the CIA to avoid having to report to Congress. Labor unionists around the world know that Colombia is the most dangerous country for union leaders. A recent visit to the United States by Francisco Ramírez Cuéllar, president of the Colombian mineworkers' union, set this fact into clear focus. Early in the afternoon last Oct. 10, as Ramírez Cuéllar walked from his home to have lunch with two nieces, two men on a motorcycle approached him. The man on the rear was holding a gun and looked straight into the union leader's eyes. Ramírez Cuéllar was able to take cover behind a pole. Luckily, the traffic light changed, drivers honked impatiently + the motorcyclists were forced to continue on their way. That was the seventh time there has been an attempt on his life. Kerry and Edwards should be named hypocrites of the year

Kerry-Edwards Ticket Tours Their Experience On Senate Intelligence Committee. SEN. JOHN EDWARDS: “As you know, for many years, John served on the Intelligence Committee. I’m on the Intelligence Committee now.” (Fox News’ “Fox News Sunday,” 8/1/04)

While On Committee, Kerry Missed 38 Of 49 Intelligence Committee Hearings.

During John Kerry's eight years of service on the Senate's Select Committee on Intelligence, there were 49 open, public hearings.

Of these 49, John Kerry attended just 11 (22.4%). Among the most notable of those he missed is the June 8, 2000, hearing on the report of the National Commission on Terrorism, which warned about the terrorist threat we now face and recommended numerous steps to address that threat (few of which were adopted prior to 9/11/01)

"It is outrageous that Chertoff didn't allow testimony about Lindh's torture by American forces to come out," By Dave Lindorff
The nominee for new Homeland Security secretary, back in 2002, worked hard to keep the public from hearing courtroom testimony that would have revealed the Bush government’s new campaign of torture, allowing it to spread from Afghanistan to Guantanamo to Iraq.

The United States is in the midst of a very un-civil war. It's a war of words that's pitting conservative against liberal, that's already divided the country into red and blue. The new gladiators are commentators like Bill O'Reilly and Ann Coulter and their forum is the television studios of networks like Fox. It's loud, it's raucous, but does it have anything to do with the truth?

What the intellectuals failed to grasp about both Reagan and Thatcher is that their stubborn simplicity was the source of their political and moral strength.   They wholeheartedly embraced the values and virtues of small town America (or England); honor, courage, belief in god, family and country, a sense that there is such as thing as right and wrong + that a good person should be able to differentiate between the two.   Not very complicated, really, but profound.   And still very true.

Reading today's NYT editorial on Reagan (which can be summarized as "ok, he was a nice guy, but everything good that happened during his Presidency was due to luck + he was wrong about everything"), I was struck by the similarities between Reagan and current President George W. Bush.   Consider the last paragraph: When Ronald Reagan was elected, the institution of the presidency and the nation itself seemed to be laboring under a large dark cloud. Into the middle of this malaise came a most improbable chief executive — a former baseball announcer, pitchman for General Electric, Hollywood bon vivant and two-term California governor with one uncomplicated message: There was no problem that could not be solved if Americans would only believe in themselves. At the time, it was something the nation needed to hear. Today, we live in an era defined by that particular kind of simplicity, which expresses itself in semi-detached leadership and a black-and-white view of the world. Gray is beginning to look a lot more attractive.

Zudem seien zehntausende Arbeitsplätze in Gefahr.URL: https://www.spiegel.de/panorama/0,1518,druck-339301,00.html

Fallujah people suffered under Saddam + they liberated their own city. They did not do so to live under occupation.

I wonder what it will take to snap America out of its hypnosis about Iraq.

Or are we in advanced Matrix-style deep embryonic sleep?

With the Pentagon openly pondering El Salvador-style death squads + indefinite internment of terrorist suspects in ‘friendly’ foreign countries, you’ve got to wonder if there is any conscience operating on a large scale at this moment in time.

One thing I sense for sure: Global pillage has replaced global village.

I’m earmarking my tsunami dollars for the nearest Iraqi tent city. That’s a tsunami I caused.

Here’s Robert Fisk’s latest on Fallujah.

We have, I’m afraid, adopted Israeli scorched-earth methods of occupation.

Iraq is Palestine.

And another generation of Americans is going to have to grow up with widespread memories of war crimes.

Known by several names since its inception as Project Icon on April 25, 2002, the Strategic Support Branch is an arm of the DIA's nine-year-old Defense Human Intelligence Service, which until now has concentrated on managing military attachés assigned openly to U.S. embassies around the world. A high-ranking official with direct responsibility for the initiative, declining to speak on the record about espionage in friendly nations, said the Defense Department sometimes has to work undetected inside "a country that we're not at war with, if you will, a country that maybe has ungoverned spaces, or a country that is tacitly allowing some kind of threatening activity to go on."

Under Title 50, all departments of the executive branch are obliged to keep Congress "fully and currently informed of all intelligence activities." The law exempts "traditional . . . military activities" and their "routine support." Advisers said Rumsfeld, after requesting a fresh legal review by the Pentagon's general counsel, interprets "traditional" and "routine" more expansively than his predecessors.

"Operations the CIA runs have one set of restrictions and oversight + the military has another," said a Republican member of Congress with a substantial role in national security oversight, declining to speak publicly against political allies. "It sounds like there's an angle here of, 'Let's get around having any oversight by having the military do something that normally the [CIA] does + not tell anybody.' That immediately raises all kinds of red flags for me. Why aren't they telling us?"

The enumeration by Myers of "emerging target countries" for clandestine intelligence work illustrates the breadth of the Pentagon's new concept. All those named, save Somalia, have allied themselves with the United States -- if unevenly -- against al Qaeda and its jihadist allies. 28.Jan.2005
Pentagon officials emphasized their intention to remain accountable to Congress, but they also asserted that defense intelligence missions are subject to fewer legal constraints than Rumsfeld's predecessors believed. That assertion involves new interpretations of Title 10 of the U.S. Code, which governs the armed services + Title 50, which governs, among other things, foreign intelligence.

Under Title 10, for example, the Defense Department must report to Congress all "deployment orders," or formal instructions from the Joint Chiefs of Staff to position U.S. forces for combat. But guidelines issued this month by Undersecretary for Intelligence Stephen A. Cambone state that special operations forces may "conduct clandestine HUMINT operations . . . before publication" of a deployment order, rendering notification unnecessary. Pentagon lawyers also define the "war on terror" as ongoing, indefinite and global in scope. That analysis effectively discards the limitation of the defense secretary's war powers to times and places of imminent combat. Rumsfeld's ambitious plans rely principally on the Tampa-based U.S. Special Operations Command, or SOCOM + on its clandestine component, the Joint Special Operations Command.

Rumsfeld has designated SOCOM's leader, Army Gen. Bryan D. Brown, as the military commander in chief in the war on terrorism.

Rumsfeld has also given Brown's subordinates new authority to pay foreign agents.

The Strategic Support Branch is intended to add missing capabilities - such as the skill to establish local spy networks + the technology for direct access to national intelligence databases - to the military's much larger special operations squadrons.

Some Pentagon officials refer to the combined units as the "secret army of Northern Virginia."

Known as "special mission units," Brown's elite forces are not acknowledged publicly.

They include two squadrons of an Army unit popularly known as Delta Force, another Army squadron - formerly code-named Gray Fox - that specializes in close-in electronic surveillance, an Air Force human intelligence unit + the Navy unit popularly known as SEAL Team Six. Washington Post Staff Writer

The Pentagon expanding into the CIA 's historic bailiwick, has created a new espionage arm + is reinterpreting U.S. law to give Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld broad authority over clandestine operations abroad, according to interviews with participants + documents obtained by The Washington Post. 28.Jan.2005
The previously undisclosed organization, called the Strategic Support Branch, arose from Rumsfeld's written order to end his "near total dependence on CIA" for what is known as human intelligence. Designed to operate without detection and under the defense secretary's direct control, the Strategic Support Branch deploys small teams of case officers, linguists, interrogators and technical specialists alongside newly empowered special operations forces. URL: https://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1802&u=/washpost/20050123/ts_washpost/a29414_2005jan22&printer=1

Military and civilian participants said in interviews that the new unit has been operating in secret for two years -- in Iraq (news - web sites), Afghanistan (news - web sites) and other places they declined to name.

According to an early planning memorandum to Rumsfeld from Gen. Richard B. Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the focus of the intelligence initiative is on "emerging target countries such as Somalia, Yemen, Indonesia, Philippines and Georgia." Myers and his staff declined to be interviewed.

The Strategic Support Branch was created to provide Rumsfeld with independent tools for the "full spectrum of humint operations," according to an internal account of its origin and mission. Human intelligence operations, a term used in counterpoint to technical means such as satellite photography, range from interrogation of prisoners and scouting of targets in wartime to the peacetime recruitment of foreign spies. A recent Pentagon memo states that recruited agents may include "notorious figures" whose links to the U.S. government would be embarrassing if disclosed.

28.Jan.2005 Red, -I was talking about the American Revolution, but I should have qualified it by stating that the US, like all foreigners, were limited to Canton until the after the Opium Wars. What I meant by scavenger diplomacy is for example in the Opium Wars, the US pretty much remained on the sidelines while the British beat the snot of the Chinese to the opium trade alive in China. After the British defeated the Chinese and wrung thier concessions out of them, the US stepped in and threatened war with an already weary Chinese for the same concesions the British recieved, the Chinese conceded the same concessions because they were too weak to put a resistance against the US, even though the US military was incredibly small at the time.
If I recall from DipHis, we maintained the same small presence in China from the Opium Wars until, like you said, the Open Door. But the aggregate trade and Westernizing that was taking place by the Europeans and the US was detroying the Qing Dynasty and set up the spheres of influence.
I did not know that about Nixon and Kissenger, I bet your dissertation is relly good. Let me guess your emphasis was Chinese- US relation post reconstruction?

28.Jan.2005
You mean the American Revolution? As far as I know, with the exception of Canton, Westerners were not permitted access to the whole of China until after the Opium War and the signing of the Treaty of Nanking in 1842. As for the United States, it wasn't until after the Spanish-American War and the acquisition of the Philippines that the United States showed an interest in China. Prior to that, with the exception of Christian missionaries, the United States was content to leave China to the Europeans. By defeating a European power, the U.S. (i.e. President McKinley, VP Teddy Roosevelt + Sec. State Hay) thought that they could hang with the big boys and used the Boxer Rebellion to craft the Open Door Treaty. Of course I may be wrong, my graduate concentration was on post-Reconstruction American diplomatic history and I only had a few courses on colonial-Civil War diplomatic history.
Furthermore, given the early diplomatic moves by the United States in terms of its national interests (ie. normalizing trade relations with Europe, expanding Westward + dealing with the Native Americans), I highly doubt that there was a move by the American government (there may have been American businesses involved) in the late 18th and early 19th century to trade with China.

It goes farther than 100 years. Amercians were trading with the Chinese, while we were still a colony of Britain. After the Revolution the US began what is termed "scavenger diplomacy". Scavenger diplomacy was where the US would step in to bully the Chinese for the same concessions that the British just beat the **** out of the Chinese for. It was that way all the way up to the Boxer Rebellion. After WWII and the ultimate takeover of the Chinese mainland by Chairman Mao. At the outbreak of the Korean War Mao was planning to invade Taiwan, but when Truman order a carrier task force to transit the strait to Korea, the Chinese backed down.
After the actions of China in Korea and the subsequent support the ChiComs gave the VietCong and the N. Vietnamese, Nixon went to China for reasons:
1. To open it up to trade for comercial reasons.
2. To play on the friction between the Soviets and the Chicoms.
3. By opening it up to trade, it would gradually start to destroy the Communist underpinings of the People's Republic. Just as it destroyed the Qing Dynasty.
The PRC government is gradually being undermined by the quasi-capitalist economy that is has come to embrace. If they are hell bent on getting Taiwan back, which I seriously doubt, their largest trading partner will break off all trade with them as will most countries in the region, sending their economy back to the dark ages.

Well, President Nixon originally opened the China market because he believed that the trade deficit would actually flow in the USA s favor + it did for the first few years.

He had hoped to use an open China market as way of counter-balancing a resurgant Japan.
The lure of the "China Market" has been drawing Western businesses to China for over a hundred years in the hopes that sales to the large population would yield huge profits.

Unfortunately, China's insular culture has prevented Western products/companies from gaining a foothold.

It has only been in recent years that the Beijing government has allowed limited Western imports.

On the other hand, many corporations have found the cheap labor of China impossible to resist. The easing of trade restrictions with China coincided with domestic labor disputes in the USA.

USA companies, unwilling to yield to union demands and fed up with strikes and slowing productivity, decided to move many industrial jobs to China + other improverished nations.
Furthermore, American consumers will go for the cheaper alternative when shopping, even if means costing them their own job in the long run.

I personally refuse to shop at Wal-Mart but I agree that it is difficult to find items that are "Made in the USA."

Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and pay that extra $5-$10 for a US product. https://www.airwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7640

China purportedly is developing laser weapons with the ability to destroy satellites and to disrupt communication systems.40 However, a cheaper and more realizable option for disrupting communication system is computer viruses. Computer virus development programs, created to disrupt vital Pentagon and military systems, are supported by General Fu Quanyou, chief of General Staff in 2000 + others + also with generous funding, starting in 2000.41 The U.S. military fears that Chinese Cyberspace penetration may disrupt or violate U.S. databases that are online.42 https://www.airwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7640

However, with political friction resulting in the Western embargo after the Tiananmen Square incident, as well as the reluctance of Western countries to increase China's military strength after the fall of the Soviet Union, Western sources of military technologies have dwindled for China. Once again, to develop its next generation of weapons, China had to rely on its own reverse-engineering capabilities, conversion of industrial technologies for military applications, growing industrial capabilities through absorbing more hi-tech foreign direct investments + also rely on a former adversary (Russia).

Future Trends
China's technological development previously had been constrained by the lack of technical ability as well as by Western reluctance to transfer military technologies to China. As a result, China had to scrape together Western military components that it obtained after the Nixon rapprochement with Communist China in 1972.

00.Dec.1975 the UK became one of the first Western countries to supply China with military components when it sold Rolls Royce aircraft engines to China, boosting the country's air capabilities + allowing the PLAAF to upgrade their antiquated Soviet MIG-21s.39 https://www.airwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7640
28.Jan.2005 The Prescott Bush story has been condemned by both conservatives and some liberals as having nothing to do with the current president. It has also been suggested that Prescott Bush had little to do with Averill Harriman and that the two men opposed each other politically.
However, documents from the Harriman papers include a flattering wartime profile of Harriman in the New York Journal American and next to it in the files is a letter to the financial editor of that paper from Prescott Bush congratulating the paper for running the profile. He added that Harriman's "performance and his whole attitude has been a source of inspiration and pride to his partners and his friends".
The Anti-Defamation League in the US is supportive of Prescott Bush and the Bush family. In a statement last year they said that "rumours about the alleged Nazi 'ties' of the late Prescott Bush ... have circulated widely through the internet in recent years. These charges are untenable and politically motivated ... Prescott Bush was neither a Nazi nor a Nazi sympathiser."
However, one of the country's oldest Jewish publications, the Jewish Advocate, has aired the controversy in detail.
More than 60 years after Prescott Bush came briefly under scrutiny at the time of a faraway war, his grandson is facing a different kind of scrutiny but one underpinned by the same perception that, for some people, war can be a profitable business. Guardian2004 URL:

"This was the mechanism by which Hitler was funded to come to power, this was the mechanism by which the Third Reich's defence industry was re-armed, this was the mechanism by which Nazi profits were repatriated back to the American owners, this was the mechanism by which investigations into the financial laundering of the Third Reich were blunted," said Loftus, who is vice-chairman of the Holocaust Museum in St Petersburg.
"The Union Banking Corporation was a holding company for the Nazis, for Fritz Thyssen," said Loftus. "At various times, the Bush family has tried to spin it, saying they were owned by a Dutch bank and it wasn't until the Nazis took over Holland that they realised that now the Nazis controlled the apparent company and that is why the Bush supporters claim when the war was over they got their money back. The two Holocaust survivors suing the US government and the Bush family for a total of $40bn in compensation claim both materially benefited from Auschwitz slave labour during WWII.
Kurt Julius Goldstein, 87 + Peter Gingold, 85, began a class action in USA in 2001, but the case was thrown out by Judge Rosemary Collier on the grounds that the government cannot be held liable under the principle of "state sovereignty".
Jan Lissmann, one of the lawyers for the survivors, said: "President Bush withdrew President Bill Clinton's signature from the treaty [that founded the court] not only to protect USA Americans, but also to protect himself + his family."
Lissmann argues that genocide-related cases are covered by international law, which does hold governments accountable for their actions. He claims the ruling was invalid as no hearing took place.
In their claims, Mr Goldstein + Mr Gingold, honorary chairman of the League of Anti-fascists, suggest the Americans were aware of what was happening at Auschwitz + should have bombed the camp.

One of the pillars in Thyssen's international corporate web, UBC, worked exclusively for + was owned by, a Thyssen-controlled bank in the Netherlands. More tantalising are Bush's links to the Consolidated Silesian Steel Company (CSSC), based in mineral rich Silesia on the German-Polish border. During the war, the company made use of Nazi slave labour from the concentration camps, including Auschwitz. The ownership of CSSC changed hands several times in the 1930s, but documents from the US National Archive declassified last year link Bush to CSSC, although it is not clear if he and UBC were still involved in the company when Thyssen's American assets were seized in 1942.
Three sets of archives spell out Prescott Bush's involvement. All three are readily available, thanks to the efficient US archive system and a helpful and dedicated staff at both the Library of Congress in Washington and the National Archives at the University of Maryland.
The first set of files, the Harriman papers in the Library of Congress, show that Prescott Bush was a director and shareholder of a number of companies involved with Thyssen.
The second set of papers, which are in the National Archives, are contained in vesting order number 248 which records the seizure of the company assets. What these files show is that on October 20 1942 the alien property custodian seized the assets of the UBC, of which Prescott Bush was a director. Having gone through the books of the bank, further seizures were made against two affiliates, the Holland-American Trading Corporation and the Seamless Steel Equipment Corporation. By November, the Silesian-American Company, another of Prescott Bush's ventures, had also been seized.
The third set of documents, also at the National Archives, are contained in the files on IG Farben, who was prosecuted for war crimes.
A report issued by the Office of Alien Property Custodian in 1942 stated of the companies that "since 1939, these (steel and mining) properties have been in possession of and have been operated by the German government and have undoubtedly been of considerable assistance to that country's war effort". URL:

Remarkably, little of Bush's dealings with Germany has received public scrutiny, partly because of the secret status of the documentation involving him. But now the multibillion dollar legal action for damages by two Holocaust survivors against the Bush family + the imminent publication of three books on the subject are threatening to make Prescott Bush's business history an uncomfortable issue for his grandson, George W, as he seeks re-election.
While there is no suggestion that Prescott Bush was sympathetic to the Nazi cause, the documents reveal that the firm he worked for, Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH), acted as a US base for the German industrialist, Fritz Thyssen, who helped finance Hitler in the 1930s before falling out with him at the end of the decade. The Guardian has seen evidence that shows Bush was the director of the New York-based Union Banking Corporation (UBC) that represented Thyssen's US interests and he continued to work for the bank after America entered the war.
Tantalising
Bush was also on the board of at least one of the companies that formed part of a multinational network of front companies to allow Thyssen to move assets around the world. URL:

How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power
Rumours of a link between the US first family and the Nazi war machine have circulated for decades.

Now the Guardian can reveal how repercussions of events that culminated in action under the Trading with the Enemy Act are still being felt by today's president
Ben Aris in Berlin and Duncan Campbell in Washington

25.Sep.2004 "The Guardian" - George W. Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director + shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.

The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism.
His business dealings, which continued until his company's assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz + to a hum of pre-election controversy.
The evidence has also prompted one former US Nazi war crimes prosecutor to argue that the late senator's action should have been grounds for prosecution for giving aid + comfort to the enemy.  URL:

The rules: candidates must be anonymous (otherwise they will be killed). Voters cannot go out and vote (otherwise they may be killed). Even if they wanted to vote, they wouldn't know where, because the location of the polling stations will be known only the night before the election.

27.Jan.2005 Report: The Iraqi election "bait and switch": Faulty poll will not bring peace or US withdrawal.

27.Jan.2005 'The US is behaving as if every Sunni is a terrorist' : For centuries they have comprised the ruling class, but since the fall of Saddam everything has changed for Iraq's Sunni Arabs. This weekend's elections are likely only to reinforce their disaffection

27.Jan.2005 Iraqis To Bush - What Have We Done To Deserve This? : Despite Bush's endless hypocritical assertions about how we have brought freedom to Iraq, the truth is that almost all of the people in that country who have managed to survive the military attacks, have lost loved ones and had their lives ruined.

27.Jan.2005 Paul Craig Roberts: Does Bush Mean It?: The Bush administration is not establishing any democracies. It is starting a war that will last a generation. That is the neocon plan. They have put their intentions in writing just as Hitler did. It is no protection that their plan is detached from reality. Robespierre was detached from reality + that did not stop him. So were Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, Mao + Pol Pot.

26.Jan.2005 Democracy - It's not God's gift Jordanian-born terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, leader of the organisation that calls itself "al Qaeda in Iraq", says: "We have declared a fierce war on this evil principle of democracy." By Gwynne Dyer
Zarqawi is the bogeyman that the United States Government blames for almost everything that has gone wrong in Iraq, but he does speak essentially the same language as President Bush.

27.Jan.2005 "Standing for the Founding Principles of the Republic"
This doctrine of preemptive strikes places the sole decision of war and peace in the hands of the President and undermines the Constitutional power of Congress to declare war.
by US Senator Robert C. Byrd
Not only does this pernicious doctrine of preemptive war contradict the Constitution, it barely acknowledges its existence. The National Security Strategy makes only one passing reference to the Constitution: it states that "America’s constitution" -- that is "constitution" with a small C -- "has served us well." As if the Constitution does not still serve this country well! One might ask if that reference to the Constitution was intended to be a compliment or an obituary?

Because There is No Cause Into history’s cauldron have American troops been sent to wage war and decimate cities, lands and lives.By Manuel Valenzuela
It is time we say enough is enough, that the American people refuse to sit idly while a few miscreants destroy our nation and our world. It is time to show the world what we once were + are capable of once again becoming. It is time we make our government accountable. It is time to end the madness of this illegal and immoral war.
