Airplane "Impact" Times: Incriminating Evidence of 9/11 Coverup & Complicity By Craig T. Furlong & Gordon Ross, Scholars for 9/11 Truth: https://www.st911.org The official times for plane "impact" [precise to the second] as declared by the US Government, from both the 9/11 Commission + from NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology), are different + yet both are true + accurate times. What can this factual contradiction mean? Looking exclusively at WTC1, there is found an indisputable causal link: One World Trade, 11.Sep.2001 11.Sep.2001 08:46:40 UTC, per FAA last primary radar contact (9/11 Commission Final Report, 2004) 11.Sep.2001 08:46:30 seismic event that occurred 10 seconds before the actual air crash at 11.Sep.2001 08:46:40 ? 00.000.2001 as plane "impact"). Both the 9/11 Commission + NIST avoided addressing the many witnesses who testified of explosions in the sub-basements before the plane crashed. This precision data has yet to be refuted. It is from the two highest governmental entities charged with looking into what happened on 9/11. Both declared these times as accurate + in doing so corroborate William Rodriguez + the many eyewitnesses the morning of 9/11 who testified of explosions in the sub-basements of WTC1 before American Airlines Flight 11 struck the building. This is indicting evidence of governmental coverup + thus implication of complicity. Before it is too late, demand a new, truly independent 9/11 investigation, this time a real one. Their lawsuit alleges that Microsoft needed permission from the tribal elders before translating its software into Mapuzugun, a project which was co-ordinated with the Chilean Ministry of Education." From the CNN Money article: "The Mapuche took their case to a court in the southern city of Temuco earlier this month but a judge ruled it should be considered in Santiago. A judge in the capital is due to decide in the next two weeks whether Microsoft has a case to answer. 'If they rule against us we will go to the Supreme Court and if they rule against us there we will take our case to a court of human rights,' said Lautaro Loncon, a Mapuche activist and coordinator of the Indigenous Network, an umbrella group for several ethnic groups in Chile." "A New Jersey public-school history teacher was recorded telling his students that they 'belong in Hell' if they do not accept Jesus. The teacher, who is also a Baptist Pastor, lied later when he was asked by the school principle what he said to the students. Unfortunately for this dodge, a student recorded the teacher's 'lesson'." From the article: "The student and his parents have requested that the teacher's anti-scientific remarks be corrected in open class + that the school develop quality control procedures to ensure that future classes are not proselytized and misinformed. They have also referred the matter for disciplinary action. No apology has been forthcoming from the teacher or from the school." "The Associated Press has an article about a robot named George that plays hide-and-seek. Impressively, the robot can actually also find a place to hide + then hunt for its human playmate. Scientists are calling this 'a new level of human interaction'. The machine must take cues from people and behave accordingly. Researchers aim to imply humanity in robotics by creating technology that can connect with humans in a more 'thoughtful' way. The places to first see this technology are in the most human-oriented fields — those that require special care in dealing with the elderly, young and disabled." From the article: "'Robots in the human environment, to me that's the final frontier,' said Cynthia Breazeal, robotic life group director at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. 'The human environment is as complex as it gets; it pushes the envelope.' Robotics is moving from software and gears operating remotely - Mars, the bottom of the ocean or assembly lines - to finally working with, beside and even on people. 'Robots have to understand people as people,' Breazeal said. 'Right now, the average robot understands people like a chair: It's something to go around.'" "An academic paper on math has been released by Paul Bressloff, resulting in much ado about the mathematical modeling of the brain's memory storage. The paper deals with specific receptors called AMPA and how memories are held while synapses still fire. Scientific American is running a more detailed report on the subject." From the article "At any given time, some AMPA receptors are moving inside the nerve cell where they are unable to receive signals. But to maintain memory, a number of AMPA receptors are anchored in place with what are known as scaffolding proteins, Bressloff said. The computer models examined how many AMPA receptors are anchored at the receiving area on the surface as opposed to those found elsewhere in the nerve cell. The more AMPA receptors that are anchored in place, the stronger the synapse." 17. Jahrhundert, in: RhVjBll 57 (1993), S. 158-175. Die hessischen Töpfer hätten alle Zutaten zusammengerührt, die Tiegel geformt und im Ofen gebrannt - bei einer für die damalige Zeit extremen Hitze von 1100 bis 1200 Grad Celsius. Dabei habe sich in den Töpfen das Mineral Mullit gebildet: ein Aluminumsilikat, das die Tiegel so haltbar gemacht hat. Keroack is a nationally known advocate of abstinence until marriage who has worked for a Christian pregnancy counseling group that opposes contraception. To defend Keroack, the administration has repeatedly referred to his professional experience as a doctor: An HHS spokeswoman said Keroack is a skilled doctor and a nationally recognized expert on preventing teenage pregnancy. “We have confidence that he’ll perform his duties effectively and in accordance with the law,” HHS spokeswoman Christina Pearson said by e-mail. John O. Agwunobi, assistant secretary for health, said Keroack “is highly qualified and a well-respected physician …working primarily with women and girls in crisis.” In fact, Keroack is not a board-certified physician. Buried at the bottom of an article in today’s Washington Post: [HHS spokeswoman Christina] Pearson also acknowledged yesterday that Keroack is not currently certified as an obstetrician-gynecologist. That is not a requirement for the job, but HHS officials had cited Keroack’s expertise in defending his selection. Keroack was certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology 00.000.1995, but that credential expired after 10 years. “He inadvertently missed the recertification deadline and for 2006 is listed as board-eligible, meaning he is eligible to take the recertification exam,” Pearson said. “He plans to seek recertification in the future.” Incoming Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) + 12 other senators sent a letter to HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt yesterday urging him to withdraw Keroack’s appointment. “Unfortunately, this appointment is another example of the administration allowing ideology to trump science + it could jeopardize vital services on which large numbers of women and families depend,” the letter said. (See the letter here.) More at Feministing. UPDATE: The title was updated to reflect the fact that Keroack is still a doctor who is not certified. Democrats have not controlled the White House or either branch of Congress since the Iraq war began 00.000.2003. Over that time, numerous leading Democrats have called for laws, resolutions + hearings to prompt changes in our Iraq policy. Even when Democrats do assume control over Congress in January, the Bush administration will retain the authority to set many of our foreign policy and military priorities. The more likely truth is that Chris Shays — who “voted for the war and then stubbornly supported President Bush’s ’stay the course’ strategy until only three months ago, when he came out in favor of a timetable for withdrawal” — is just desperate to pass the buck. MATTHEWS: Let me ask you first about the Iraq war, you’ve been there so many times. You know the situation. What is it right now, the situation in Iraq with our troops? SHAYS: Well, the problem is we’re a divided nation. We went into Iraq on a bipartisan basis and we’re gonna have to find a bipartisan solution + the Democrats may not want to own Iraq but they own it now as much as this President. And that’s not a bad thing. “As a last little gift to America, Senator George Allen, who was narrowly defeated by James Webb this month, has introduced what may be his final piece of legislation: a bill that would allow the carrying of concealed weapons in national parks.” “And all of it makes sense to me.” The following day, Maliki announced Operation Together Forward, “his government’s new plan to improve security conditions in Baghdad.” Five months later, Bush will travel to Jordan to meet with Maliki again. Since their June meeting, the situation in Iraq has continued to deteriorate: - 370 American soldiers have died since mid-June. - Last month, 3,709 Iraqi civilians were killed, “the highest monthly toll since the March 2003 U.S. invasion and another sign of the severity of Iraq’s sectarian bloodbath.” - Maj. Gen. William Caldwell admitted Operation Forward Together had failed and had “not met our overall expectations of sustaining a reduction in the levels of violence” - 7 out of 10 Iraqis want U.S. forces to leave within a year. - An October classified Pentagon briefing found violence in Iraq was “at all-time high” and “spreading geographically.” No wonder the White House has been “quick to talk down expectations” for Bush’s trip to Jordan. “Schwarzenegger also gave six former staffers jobs with state boards and commissions he previously tried to dismantle.” Lieberman argued, “As bad as things are in Iraq today, they would be dramatically worse if we just pick up and leave.” Lieberman made two points to support this claim: 1) the violence in Iraq would get much worse if we withdrew + 2) the Iraqi government would fall apart. The Iraqi people strongly disagree on both counts. Iraqis Believe A Timetable Would Decrease Violence. 58 % of Iraqis believe that if U.S.-led forces withdrew in the next six months violence in Iraq would decrease. Also , 61 % of Iraqis say their day-to-day security would increase. Iraqis Believe A Timetable Would Strengthen Iraqi Government. 53 % of Iraqis said a timetable for withdrawal would strengthen the Iraqi government; only 23 % said it would weaken it, as Lieberman claims. Full transcript: HANNITY: And do you worry that your party may be wrong if they want to — if Barack Obama and Senator Levin want to cut and run? Are you going to stand in strong opposition to them? LIEBERMAN: You bet I am. I mean, they’re now proposing that we begin a withdrawal of American troops from Iraq within the next four to six months. I think that would — that’s a road to disaster. That’s basically the beginning of giving up on Iraq. And as bad as things are in Iraq today, they would be dramatically worse if we just pick up and leave. You know, Sean, last week, when General Abizaid was before the Senate Armed Services Committee, on which I’m privileged to serve, I asked him, What would be the effect on the sectarian violence if we began a withdrawal in four to six months, regardless of what’s happening on the ground? And he said it would become much worse. And then Ambassador Satterfield from the State Department was there. And I said, I know some of the people that want us to begin a withdrawal in a time certain think that’s the only way we can get the Iraqi government to do what they want to do, to take control of their destiny. I asked Satterfield, What’s your reaction to that? He said, if we began to arbitrarily withdraw in the next four to six months, it will have exactly the opposite effect on the Iraqi government. They’ll begin to hedge their bets, because they’ll see us heading for the door + they’ll see that what’s going to follow is out-and-out civil war, maybe even regional war. We cannot let that happen. Iraq is now a central battlefield in the war on terrorism + we’ve got to have a success strategy there. HANNITY: I couldn’t agree with you more. President Bush will travel to Jordan next week to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. “The White House was quick to talk down expectations for the trip as the national security adviser told reporters ‘we’re not looking for a big, bold announcement‘ to come out of the meeting.” The annual AIDS report issued by the United Nations and World Health Organization found that the “epidemic has continued to grow in all regions of the world this year and surged back in some areas where there had been declines.” An estimated 39.5 million people are living with HIV. 00.000.2006, 2.9 million people died of AIDS-related illnesses. The Iraq Study Group is nearing completion of a first draft of its report. The co-chairmen, James Baker + Lee Hamilton, hope to complete it this weekend + give it to the eight other group members in time for a meeting next week. Meanwhile, the Pentagon is readying counterproposals for Bush “in case the Iraq Study Group comes up with ideas he does not like.” Iraq war veteran Tammy Duckworth, who ran + lost a high-profile congressional race in Illinois this year, has been appointed director of the state’s Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D-IL) announced yesterday. “Former attorney general Janet Reno has taken the unusual step of openly criticizing the Bush administration’s anti-terrorism strategy — joining seven other former Justice Department officials in warning that the indefinite detention of U.S. terrorism suspects could become commonplace unless the courts intervene.” 69 % of American voters think undocumented workers “should be allowed into a guest worker program with the ability to work toward citizenship over a period of several years.” The idea has “wide support among voters of all political stripes.” A report by the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq found “ 3,709 Iraqi civilians were killed in October, the highest monthly toll since the 00.Mar.2003 U.S. invasion + another sign of the severity of Iraq’s sectarian bloodbath.” The killing drew strong condemnation from George W. Bush. Though the US president did not say who he blamed for the killing, Mr Bush said the US supported Lebanese government efforts to "defend their democracy against attempts by Syria, Iran + allies to foment instability and violence." As Chrisopher Hitchens noted in Slate, before the Gemayel assassination, James Baker, who heads the Iraq Study Group, "supported the Syrian near-annexation of Lebanon": In order to recruit the Baathist regime of Hafez Assad to his coalition of the cynical against Saddam in the Kuwait war, Baker and Bush senior both acquiesced in the obliteration of Lebanese sovereignty. "I believe in talking to your enemies," said Baker last month--invoking what is certainly a principle of diplomacy. In this instance, however, it will surely seem to him to be more like talking to old friends--who just happen to be supplying the sinews of war to those who kill American soldiers and Iraqi civilians. Is it likely that they will stop doing this once they become convinced that an American withdrawal is only a matter of time? "Do the sages of the Iraq Study Group really want the Bush Administration to seek the benediction of a country that stirs such mayhem in Beirut?" asks The Wall Street Journal in an editorial today. If so + if the Gemayal assassination helps discredit the effort, it will be a beneficial outcome of a despicable crime. "Cell phone owners will be allowed to break software locks on their handsets in order to use them with competing carriers under new copyright rules announced Wednesday. Other copyright exemptions approved by the Library of Congress will let film professors copy snippets from DVDs for educational compilations + let blind people use special software to read copy-protected electronic books. All told, Librarian of Congress James H. Billington approved six exemptions, the most his Copyright Office has ever granted. For the first time, the office exempted groups of users. The new rules will take effect Monday and expire in three years. In granting the exemption for cell phone users, the Copyright Office determined that consumers aren't able to enjoy full legal use of their handsets because of software locks that wireless providers have been placing to control access to phones' underlying programs." Many readers have submitted this story about a breakthrough in our understanding of human DNA. In particular how much variation can exist between peoples genes and how genes are involved with certain diseases. "One person's DNA code can be as much as 10 % different from another's, researchers said on Wednesday in a finding that questions the idea that everyone on Earth is 99.9 % identical genetically. They said their new version of the human genetic map, or "book of life," fills in many missing pages and chapters to explain how genes are involved in common diseases. The Human Genome Project mapped the billions of letters that make up the human genetic code. Scientists later refined the map by looking for single variations called SNPs or single nucleotide polymorphisms. But the most recent measurements have revealed that methane levels are barely rising anymore — and it is unclear why." They allow us to estimate what the earthquake-equivalent impact of the Twin Tower destructions should have been. 11.Sep.2001 -pre- and unlikely to be politically corrupted - are The Kingdome data. If a structure is anchored directly to bedrock, its demolition will yield a higher Richter than if it were not anchored in bedrock. Why? Because if not anchored to bedrock, the energy released by demolition is dissipated via the earth "cushioning" materials. If anchored to bedrock, the released energy directly impacts bedrock, "pinging" the earth directly without any dampening, allowing the signal to carry better to recording stations. It would be like hitting your mattress with a hammer versus hitting a tuning fork. Which one carries a stronger signal to its base? If the Kingdome Richter value was a 2.3 reading transferred through soft material, a building with 30x the potential energy anchored directly in bedrock should have transferred a much higher signal to earthquake monitoring instruments. Amazingly, the south tower reading of 2.1 was lower than the Kingdome’s 2.3 despite the tower having 30x the potential energy and being anchored in bedrock. The difference in these Richter readings imply the Tower had only 60% of the potential energy of the Kingdome instead of the real range of 3,000%, an absurd implication. And the fact that the Towers were anchored in bedrock means that the energy release should have rung through to recording instruments loud and clear. The World Trade Center (WTC) towers did not "collapse" on 9/11/01, they were pulverized ( Blown to Kingdom Come ) before a gravity-driven collapse was even a possibility. Below, we discuss how this was done. The government maintains that the Twin Towers were each hit by aircraft + the subsequent fires weakened the steel in the upper stories, initiating a gravity-driven "pancake collapse," as illustrated in Figure 30. There are many problems with this hypothesis. The most obvious problem with it is the near free-fall speed of the destruction of these buildings (see Billiard Balls ). A second problem is the paucity of remaining material. Where are the concrete floors? Where is the office furniture? Where is the office machinery? Where are the filing cabinets? Where is the wall board? Where are the bookcases? They were not there, so most of it appears to have turned to dust, as illustrated in Figure 31. The world saw you hold up purple ink-stained fingers + your courage filled us with admiration. You’ve stood firm in the face of horrendous acts of terror and sectarian violence — and we will not abandon you in your struggle to build a free nation. In a recent poll by WorldOpinion.org, the Iraqi people had a message for President Bush — they’d like to be abandoned and fairly quickly: In sum, “Seven out of ten Iraqis overall–including both the Shia majority (74%) and the Sunni minority (91%)–say they want the USA to leave within a year.” Note: less than 10% of Iraqis nationwide support a U.S. withdrawal only as “the security situation improves,” the current policy of the Bush administration. Is that realistic? And is that cover for more quickly phasing out and withdrawing? HAGEL: Andrea, it is not realistic. General Abizaid noted that when he was here last week before the Senate Armed Services Committee. We don’t have the troops. That’s number one. Number two, even if we did, it’s the wrong approach. The time for more troops is past. We’ve been in Iraq now almost four years. We went in completely undermanned, under-managed. We didn’t understand what we were getting into. We didn’t have the plans. We should have gone in with three times the troops that we had. Those days are over. We’re not going to recapture that and go back and unwind those bad decisions. We don’t want to put more troops in now. Even if we had them, that’s the wrong approach. There’s not going to be a military resolution that decides the outcome of Iraq. It will be a political solution. It will include the Iraqi people, countries like Iran, Syria, Jordan and other countries around it. Our options there are very limited right now. I hope that the president will be able to use the Baker-Hamilton commission to build a new bipartisan foundation in order to start moving this country, the USA, out of Iraq. “Then, perhaps realizing that sports was the wrong thing to push in a classroom, even a fake one, the president added: ‘The best thing that I did was to learn how to read.’ Continuing in that vein, the last thing we heard before being pushed out was Bush cautioning the kids that ‘there are people who watch TV too much.’” FBI agents had been listening to the murder plot unfold for five months through a microphone hidden in a mob office and through reports from informants. They knew that Vincent "Jimmy" Flemmi and Joseph "The Animal" Barboza, two hoodlums the bureau was recruiting as informants, were behind the conspiracy. But what should have been an open-and-shut case turned into a legal nightmare. An executive from Murdoch’s News Corporation told the New York Times that the rights to the Simpson’s book “could still be sold to another publisher,” meaning that Murdoch would still profit from the project. But they were still going to air the show. … We just thought, ‘oh my god.’ What they’re trying to do is trying to keep us quiet, trying to make this like hush money, trying to go around the civil verdict, giving us this money to keep our mouths shut. Watch it: AP reports that spokesman for News Corp. “confirmed that the company had conversations with representatives of Nicole Brown Simpson’s and Ron Goldman’s families over the past week and that the families were offered all profits from the planned Simpson book and television show, but he denied that it was hush money.” Digg It! You reacted by saying, ?Yay for the American people.? The outrage was important. What about you? Did you have any personal contact with Fox on this? BROWN: Well, actually we did. They contacted us, News Corp. contacted us + what they wanted to do was, they wanted to offer us millions of dollars? LAUER: Millions of dollars? BROWN: Millions of dollars for, like, ?Oh, I?m sorry? money, but they were still going to air the show. [Snip] BRONW: Well when this offer from News Corp. came to us, we just thought, “Oh my God!” Well, what they’re trying to do is trying to keep us quiet, try to make this like hush money, trying to go around the civil verdict. BROWN: Absolutely not. We were not going to take it. We are taking the high road. We are taking the legal road. The public, the American public has spoken. Their outcry to have this TV show and the book banned, not to be aired, was the people talking + we felt the same way. We are not going to take - it doesn’t matter how many millions of dollars someone offers us - we are not going to take it. Cavuto saw the movie with his sons and found it “offensive.” Cavuto objected to the fact that penguins in the movie have trouble finding food because of overfishing and oil drilling. In the movie the penguins are starving, the fish are all gone and it’s clear human and big buisness are to blame. Is Hollywood using kid’s films to promote a far left message. Entertainment critic Holly McClure says “Yes + it’s wrong.” Holly, so you though it was over the top? MCCLURE: Well, I did, Neil. I tell you, I went watching this movie saying Ok, great, a light-harded fun film — love these animated pictures. And it’s interesting how realistic it looks. You get in there and you’re enjoying all the fun and frivolity and, yes, it’s a takeoff of the penguin documentary. And then along comes the subtle messages. One by one they come in. I felt like i was watching “Dirty Dancing” penguin-style. You know, the preaching against tap dancing and being liberal and stay conformed. And then it started to get into the other messages. Yes, we had that plastic ring around one of the penguin’s neck. CUVUTO: Yes. Yes. MCCLURE: From there it got worse. CUVUTO: Holly, I saw this with my two little boys. What I found offensive — I don’t care what your stands are on the environment — is that they shove this in a kid’s movie. So you hear the penguins are starving and they’re starving because of mean old men, mean old companies, arctic fishing, a big taboo. And they’re foisting this on my kids who frankly were more bored that it was a nearly two-hour movie. And they’re kids! [Snip] My biggest thing was — you can make a political statement all you want — adult movie and all. I just think it’s a little tacky + a big-time objectionable when you start foisting it on kids who don’t know any better. [Snip] Even more telling to me was the fact that — I though it was like an animated “Inconvenient Truth.” I half expected to see an animated version of Al Gore to pop-up. I must be the only one in the theatre having this reaction because, you know, my boys are just bouncing off the wall because it’s so damn long. But the other issue is that, you know, that is animated “Inconvenient Truth.” Bush “stayed behind the fenced wall of the palace compound all day.” Indonesia’s president called on the U.S. to plan an “ultimate exit strategy” from Iraq. Syria and Iraq have restored diplomatic relations twenty-four years after Syria broke ties and accused Saddam “of inciting riots in Syria by the banned Muslim Brotherhood.” The Do-Nothing Congress passes the buck. “Republicans vacating the Capitol are dumping a big spring cleaning job on Democrats moving in.” Congressional leaders “have opted to leave behind almost a half-trillion-dollar clutter of unfinished spending bills,” which “promises to consume time and energy” from the 110th Congress. “ Leading public universities have become enclaves for the privileged and are failing to give bright minority and low-income students fair access to higher education,” a new report by the Education Trust says. At least 140 people were reported killed around Iraq yesterday. “At least 60 bodies were discovered in the capital. Most were middle-aged men, stripped of identification papers, who had been handcuffed, tortured and shot.” The foreign minister of Oman said, “ US policy in Iraq has handed the country to the Al-Qaeda network .” “Al-Qaeda…has established itself there and now controls whole regions,” the pro-Western Gulf state’s top diplomat said. “We hope that [the U.S.] will rethink their policy.” The Pentagon has “extended its timeline to destroy its aging chemical weapons arsenal until 2023, despite concerns by Congress and watchdog groups that the stockpiles raise the risk of an accident or theft by terrorists,” and despite the 2012 deadline set by the international Chemical Weapons Convention. House leaders say they will advance ethics reform “with a twist: Instead of forwarding one big bill, Democrats will put together an ethics package on the House floor piece by piece, allowing incoming freshmen to take charge of high-profile issues and lengthening the time spent on the debate. The approach will ensure that each proposal…is debated on its own and receives its own vote.” “Rude immigration officials and visa delays keep millions of foreign visitors away from the USA, hurt the country’s already battered image + cost the U.S. billions of dollars in lost revenue,” according to a Discover America Partnership report. They rarely if ever disclose that the personal data stored on the license — the customer's name, address, license number, perhaps even height, weight + eye color — go into a database and are retained, perhaps indefinitely. While a federal law forbids selling or sharing data from drivers licenses, there is no prohibition against collecting it. A few states have enacted such prohibitions — New Hampshire, Texas + Nebraska. Privacy advocates warn that such personal data, once in a database, is bound to be misused. From the article: "'I don't see no problem,' said [a club-goer], 22. 'That happens every day on the Internet. Any hacker can get the information anyway.' [A Web media executive] said such reactions aren't surprising from a generation accustomed to sharing personal information on Web sites such as Facebook.com and Myspace.com. 'The kids don't care,' [he] said, 'because only old people like you and me suffer from the illusion of privacy these days.'" It seems to be an America truism that "things get better after High School," and it wouldn't be surprising if most of you readers feel the same way. However, why does it have to be this way? What's the big problem with American High Schools where more and more children are feeling that it's better to risk the "real world" than to continue on with their education? Of course, another question that should be asked is: Is High School really the problem, or is it America's Educational system as a whole? "Open source databases can cut the total cost of ownership of a database by up to 60% compared to the cost of running proprietary databases from Oracle, Microsoft or IBM. According to data collected by Forrester Research, the savings average about 50%. As far as we're concerned, Jennings, in making her pledge that she "will not rest until the intended votes are counted and every persons vote is counted and reflected accurately" — along with her courage in not allowing herself to be pushed around by the anti-democratic thuggery of her opponent — has shown herself to be the model of what every candidate ought to look and sound like in the wake of such a horrendously administered election, in which the ability to determine the will of the people has been so clearly subverted. Question: At what point should a candidate stop demanding that "every person's vote is counted" and start demanding a new vote? The machines used in that county were so clearly problematical that relying on the unverifiable results of November 7 makes no sense. Permalink Shane O'Sullivan, a screenwriter and BBC investigator, has found photographic evidence of the presence of three CIA personnel in the Ambassador Hotel on the night RFK was shot. You will find the BBC Newsnight report (online here) absolutely compelling. Morales had helped to engineer the overthrow of the democratically elected leader Arbenz in Guatemala. A heavy drinker, he had the rep of being a daring CIA assassin + reportedly aided in the capture of Che Guevara. But the photographs used here are, in my opinion, of a somewhat better nature. Permalink This despite the fact that Ruppersberger is on 2 relevant committees. The whistleblower in question was Russ Tice of the NSA. John Conyers, who had thunderously denounced Hastings, was "very disturbed" to learn that testimony from a key FBI agent in the case might have been false. On the other hand, cops have been known to salt the case against someone who was actually guilty... 00.000.1997, wrote these words for The Nation: Prisoners being held secretly, without counsel and apparently indefinitely. The Vice President imploring senators to exempt the CIA from US law, treaties and international norms prohibiting torture. A war justified by unsupportable information. Accounts of misconduct at Abu Ghraib and Guantánamo and secret prisons beyond US borders. Extensive use of national security letters to obtain, without warrant or subpoena, information on American citizens. Claiming security concerns, executive-branch agencies increasingly restrict or delay access to vital intelligence--often preventing or delaying Congress, or all but a handful in Congress, from having the facts. Then, even if the intelligence is shared with some, documents are classified to prohibit broader sharing. While the Bush Administration has used security threats to justify its excessive classification, emerging threats actually make the need for "real-time sharing" of sensitive information more urgent. The Congressional Joint Inquiry into 11.Sep.2001 strongly raised this issue, but few people took notice. And I am sorry to say that it wasn’t until “that sorrowful day in September” that I decided to take a serious look at the history of our country + it was that which has made all the difference, that which no doubt changed my life. The Iraq Study Group, he said, “happened with her going to the president.” […] Asked to comment on this article, a State Department spokesman would say only that Rice supported the idea of the Iraq Study Group from early on . “The department and the administration have embraced this effort from the beginning as a way to show and maintain public support for advancing our goals in Iraq,” said spokesman Gonzalo Gallegos. But when a similar panel was suggested 00.000.2002 — when a postwar plan would have been most helpful — Rice played a key role in blocking it. From New Yorker reporter George Packer’s book Assassins’ Gate (pp. 110-112): 00.Oct.2002 Leslie Gelb, the president of the Council on Foreign Relations, had approached Rice and Hadley with an offer of help. The council and two other think tanks, the Heritage Foundation and the Center for Strategic and International Studies, would form a consortium that would gather a panel of experts to provide facts + options for the postwar … “This is just what we need,” Rice said… But she didn’t want the involvement of Heritage, which had been critical of the idea of an Irag war. “Do AEI.” Chris DeMuth, president of the American Enterprise Institute, where the administration’s neoconservatives drew their support and many of their personnel, neither consented nor refused when Gelb broached the possibility. 15.Nov.2002 the representatives of the think tanks met with Rice and Hadley in Rice’s office at the White House. John Hamre of CSIS went in expecting to pitch the idea to Rice, but the meeting was odd from the start: Rice seemed attentive only to DeMuth + it was as if the White House was trying to sell something to the American Enterprise Institute rather than the other way around. When Gelb, on the speakerphone from New York, began to describe his concept, DeMuth cut him off. “Wait a minute. What’s all this planning and thnking about postwar Iraq?” He turned to Rice. “This is nation building + you said you were against that. In the campaign you said it, the president has said it. Does he know you’re doing this? Does Karl Rove know?” Two weeks later, Hadley called Gelb to tell him what Gelb already knew: “We’re not going to go ahead with it.” It’s too bad Rice wasn’t interested in outside help four years ago. Days later, Bill O’Reilly attacked the “far left loons” who linked Fox News with the O.J. Simpson interview. According to O’Reilly, these people are “kool-aid zombies” who are “doing the bidding of far left fanatics” who want “to tie Fox News in with the O.J. Simpson situation.” But there are close ties between Fox News and the O.J. Simpson situation. According to a database search, Fox News referenced the Simpson affair as many times in the last five days as the other three leading cable news networks combined. According to TVEyes, there have been 417 references to Simpson between Nov. 15 - Nov. 20 (3:30 PM). During the same period, there were 414 references to Simpson on CNN, MSNBC + Headline News. Date Fox News CNN MSNBC Headline News UPDATE: “After a firestorm of criticism, News. Corp. said Monday that it has canceled the O.J. As ThinkProgress has noted, the majority of House Democrats in the outgoing 109th Congress - 105 of 202 - not only agree with Murtha’s position, but have cosponsored Murtha’s resolution calling for our troops to be “redeployed at the earliest practicable date” out of Iraq. In the 110th Congress, the number is likely to be even higher because many successful candidates called for redeployment during the campaign. Also, Pelosi’s support for redeployment doesn’t demonstrate a lack of concern for stability in the Middle East. To the contrary, Pelosi has repeatedly said that she favors redeployment specifically because that strategy will make the “region more stable,” in addition to strengthening our military and improving our anti-terrorism posture. (See details in our Strategic Redeployment plan.) WALLACE: Brit, what does this tell us about Pelosi and what does this tell us about her strength in the new Congress? HUME: Well, I think it’s a little early to tell from this, but it looks on the surface like sort of an unforced error. At first, it was thought, you know, that she had such a relationship with Jack Murtha that she was going to personally back him, but that would be all there was to it. It would just be an expression of a view and that she would recognize Hoyer was going to win and she wasn’t going to go all out. Well, it’s not true that she went all out, but an awful lot of work was done in her direction to try and swing this for Murtha + it failed utterly. He was beaten, what, 149 to 86, or something like that. That’s a major defeat. The other thing about it is that she has expressed a view on the war which is identical to Murtha’s + basically, she wants to get out and she doesn’t seem to care particularly about what the consequences are in Iraq and the aftermath. I’m not sure that’s a position that a lot of Americans would support, but I think that’s where she is + if that’s the case, of course, we’re likely to see more such actions on her part that will put her perhaps even at odds with her own majority. Koppel said, “I don’t think that’s an option,” and Wright stated that it “would be far more — to be effective, would be far more extensive than anyone envisions at this stage, at least in terms of the public debate about a military option. Much more complicated and costly.” Watch it: On CNN yesterday, New Yorker journalist Seymour Hersh reported that a new CIA assessment concludes that “there’s no evidence Iran is doing anything that puts them close to a bomb.” Despite the intelligence agency’s conclusion, Hersh reports that the White House is still aggressively moving ahead with preparations for a military conflict with Iran. MR. RUSSERT: Is there any realistic way we can stop Iran from getting a nuclear bomb? MR. KOPPEL: Boy, I don’t think so. I don’t think so. I mean, if they want it, the only thing we have to hope is that their, their, their technology is not all that advanced. And unless they buy the technology somewhere else, I’m not at all sure they would get it for at least a few more years. But having said that, can we stop it? We had no–I had a senior U.S. State Department official tell me we’ve had more diplomatic contact with North Korea than we have had with Iran. No diplomatic contact. The economic and trade sanctions have been in place for over a quarter of a century, really aren’t working. And the military option? Boy, I don’t think that’s–I don’t think that’s an option. MS. WRIGHT: Well, I will add one thing to that. There is this illusion that we can go in and strike a few targets and eliminate their program. But the reality is with all the troops we have on the ground, any military operation against Iran would end up having to strike at their defensive positions. Whether it’s along borders, their tank corps, their artillery corps. It would be far more–to be effective, would be far more extensive than anyone envisions at this stage, at least in terms of the public debate about a military option. Much more complicated and costly. “A former GOP fundraiser at the center of a scandal-plagued state investment in rare coins that helped Democrats seize power in the midterm elections was sentenced Monday to 18 years in prison.” “Conservative Christian groups have begun an intensive lobbying campaign against a new questionnaire for prospective high-level gubernatorial appointees” in Florida. The questionnaire “asks the would-be appointees if they have ever been the subject of a complaint or investigation for discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender, race, religion or national origin. The groups want sexual orientation removed from the list.” GamePolitics.com caught this gem from the Radio Factor with Bill O’Reilly: I don’t own an iPod. I would never wear an iPod… If this is your primary focus in life - the machines… it’s going to have a staggeringly negative effect, all of this, for America… did you ever talk to these computer geeks? I mean, can you carry on a conversation with them? …I really fear for the USA because, believe me, the jihadists? They’re not playing the video games. They’re killing real people over there. Digg It! The Army is rewriting a key field manual, the authoritative guidebook on how to conduct ground operations, “in a way that rejects the Rumsfeld doctrine [emphasizing speed over massive troop numbers] + counsels against using it again.” “Tony Blair’s apparent agreement with a suggestion that the Iraqi war has been disastrous was a ‘straightforward slip of the tongue,’ said the British Prime Minister’s official spokesperson on Saturday.” A new report by the Government Accountability Office has “criticized the Bush administration for failing to check if federally funded abstinence-only programs actually work to curb teen sex.” Bush’s warrantless domestic surveillance bill: “Not gonna happen.” Last week, Bush sent Capitol Hill a “plea for a legislative stamp of approval on the controversial spy effort,” calling it an “important priority in the war on terror.” Senate Republicans responded with “deafening silence.” A top secret Pentagon group tasked with refocusing Iraq strategy has “devised a hybrid plan” that combines a temporary increase of 20,000-30,000 troops with a subsequent partial withdrawal and long-term effort to train and advise Iraqi forces. Following a nationwide rash of harassing election week “robocalls,” officials in Virginia, Connecticut + Pennsylvania have introduced measures to curb the practice. Some five years after No Child Left Behind was made law, there has been “little progress” toward closing the minority/white test-score gap, which is “so large that, on average, African-American and Hispanic students in high school can read and do arithmetic at only the average level of whites in junior high school.” Preliminary findings from a 10-month investigation into NASA’s Inspector General “outlines allegations that he stifled investigations, mistreated department employees and maintained a close personal relationship with top officials of the agency he was supposed to independently monitor.” The author of an Occupational Safety and Health Administration advisory on asbestos in brakes faces suspension from the agency after refusing to alter the warning to include language from the automobile industry. And finally: Connecticut for Lieberman attacks Lieberman. Fairfield University professor John Orman has “seized control” of the party “after registering as its sole member and electing himself as chairman.” Orman has established new bylaws that open up the nomination process to “anyone whose last name is Lieberman…or any critic of the senator.” “It’s an interesting little wrinkle,” said an attorney for the Secretary of State’s office. "The Globe and Mail reports that cancers have at their core a small number of stem cells, without which they cannot spread or reoccur. From the article: 'A spate of new discoveries about the basic biology of cancer is pushing researchers toward an astonishing conclusion: For decades, efforts to cure the disease may have targeted the wrong cells.' If true, the discoveries of Canadian and Italian research groups may give us a new path to selectively attack cancer." "The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Thiago Olson, a 17 year old Michigan teen, was able to create a small fusion device in his parents' basement. The machine uses a 40,000 volt charge and deuterium gas to create the small reaction, which he says looks like a 'small intense ball of energy.' The teen's fusion device is obviously not a self-sustaining reactor, but it still shows how fusion technology is becoming more accessible. Hopefully this points to a future where large scale fusion reactors are both economical and widely used." "As widely reported, an incident in which Iranian-American student Mostafa Tabatabainejad was tasered up to five times by UCLA police on Friday, has been captured by a fellow student using a video enabled cell phone and published to YouTube. From the Daily Bruin: 'At around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Tabatabainejad, a fourth-year Middle Eastern and North African studies and philosophy student, was asked to leave the library for failing to present his BruinCard during a random check. The 23-year-old student was hit with a Taser five times when he did not leave quickly and cooperatively upon being asked to do so.' In a story which has raised concerns of racial profiling, police brutality and the health risks of taser use, the ubiquity of video cell phone technology has given us a first hand record of an incident which might otherwise have been a he-said, she-said affair. While the publishing of the video to YouTube has given the issue compelling popular exposure beyond the immediate campus community." "The BBC is reporting that after bloggers highlighted recent public sexual harassment within view of Egyptian police, the government of Egypt has been arresting bloggers." From the article: "The most recently detained blogger, Abdel Kareem Nabil, was detained in Alexandria on 6 November and was charged with disrupting public order, inciting religious hatred and defaming the president. Amnesty International says Mr Amer appeared to have been detained for expressing critical views about Islam and Egypt's al-Azhar religious authorities." "A University of Utah researcher and his team of German colleagues have shown that it is possible, using electronics, to read data stored as nuclear 'spins'. The lead researcher in the experiment was Dr. Christoph Boehme and his team's letter is available via Nature Physics (at a cost of $18 unless you are a subscriber). This is looking to be a large advance in quantum computing because prior to this, measuring the number of spins of a single phosphorus nucleus was very difficult." From the article: "The researchers used a piece of silicon crystal about 300 microns thick — about three times the width of a human hair — less than 3 inches long and about one-tenth of an inch wide. The silicon crystal was doped with phosphorus atoms. Phosphorus atoms were embedded in silicon because too many phosphorus atoms too close together would interact with each other so much that they couldn't store information. The concept is that the nuclear spin from one atom of phosphorus would store one qubit of information. The scientists used lithography to print two gold electrical contacts onto the doped silicon. Then they placed an extremely thin layer of silicon dioxide — about two billionths of a meter thick — onto the silicon between the gold contacts. As a result, the device's surface had tiny spots where the spins of phosphorus atoms could be detected." "It's a huge challenge: how to store digital files so future generations can access them, from engineering plans to family photos. The documents of our time are being recorded as bits and bytes with no guarantee of readability down the line. And as technologies change, we may find our files frozen in forgotten formats. Popular Mechanics asks: Will an entire era of human history be lost?" From the article: "[US national archivist] Thibodeau hopes to develop a system that preserves any type of document — created on any application and any computing platform + delivered on any digital media — for as long as the USA remains a republic. Complicating matters further, the archive needs to be searchable. When Thibodeau told the head of a government research lab about his mission, the man replied, 'Your problem is so big, it's probably stupid to try + solve it.'" "NewScientist reports that researchers in Cambridge have detected a black hole spinning at nearly 1,000 times per second — the fastest ever recorded. From the article: 'McClintock's team examined a black hole in our galaxy called GRS 1915+105, which lies about 36,000 light years away. They found the innermost stable orbit around GRS 1915 is so close that the black hole must be spinning at nearly 1000 times per second. The finding supports the idea that only fast-spinning stars can collapse to create powerful explosions called long gamma-ray bursts.'"
