Thomas Kean (R-NJ) served as a “senior consultant” for ABC’s The Path to 9/11 and “is listed in the credits as a co-executive producer.” ABC Entertainment President Steve McPherson said Kean’s involvement was “crucial to the project” because “when you take on the responsibility of telling the story behind such an important event, it is absolutely critical that you get it right.” But during a conference call yesterday, Kean himself questioned the accuracy of the miniseries. Asked about a key scene in which the Clinton administration is accused of blocking a surefire chance to kill Osama bin Laden, Kean said, “I don’t think the facts are clear” about those eventsthat while ABC had “chose to portray it this way,” “my memory of it is that it could have happened any number of ways.” Listen to the audio of Kean The New York Post summarized Kean’s perspective: “Kean…said he was all right with the made-up scene — even though the video is being peddled to high schools as a teaching aid.” Full transcript: Q: I mean, isn’t it the case that this film actually does show Sandy Berger hanging up the phone in the middle of a conference call, when there are U.S. personnel whose lives are at risk on the groundthey have bin Laden in their sightsthat really nothing like that ever happened? KEAN: Well, the question, Shaun, is whether — whether it was Sandy Berger, or whether it was the head of the CIA? Whether the call was hung up on or whether it was totally — whether it was disrupted by a failure in communications? I mean, these are all historically, I think, open questions. But again, this is a, you know, this is a miniseries, not a documentary. ++++ Q: On this moment, the Sandy Berger moment, to go back to that for a second, if it’s not actually supported by the Commission’s findings, how exactly did it make its way into the movie? KEAN: Well, I think it made its way into the movie because they do base this not just on the 9/11 Commission report, but they base it on any number of other sources. I’m not aware of all of them. I’m aware of booksI know they used “Reckless Pursuit,” [inaudible] book. I know they used “The Cell,” which is John Miller’s book. Peter Lance, I read his bookI recognize scenes that came from “1,000 Years of Revenge,” by Peter Lance. I know there are a number of other books, articlesinterviews they used. So, where that particular — I think I know, I think I know a couple of places where they got that particular scene from — but, uh, so, so it comes from all these various, various sources. Q: Did it raise any red flags, though, for you, someone who must have a, you know, inherent broad knowledge of these events, did these concern you at all? KEAN: Yeah, well, I pointed out that the scene involving Afghanistan and the attempt to get bin Laden that was thwarted is a composite. There were a number of these scenes, there were a number of tribes involved. Some of the people who were shown there probably weren’t there. But, when you’re — as it was pointed out to me — when you’re doing a miniseries of this kind, you just can’t show that there were 15 tribes involved [laughs] at various timesso on. So it is a — it’s a composite. But the basic fact is that on a number of occassions, they thought they might have been able to get bin Laden, but for any number of reasons the plug was pulled on those operations. Q: And the fact that it implicates Sandy Berger so directly in that scene didn’t concern you? KEAN: Well, it’s, it’s — I think the facts are, if you take that particular, that particular event when it happened, I don’t think the facts are clear, whether it’s Sandy Berger, or whether it’s the head of the CIA, whether a line went dead. I think there are, I think there are a number of — they chose to portray it this way, but my memory of it is that it could have happened any number of ways.

i've expressed several times previously my suspicions that plame's role was far more wrapped up in the admin's agenda than was being discussed. and of course, she could never discuss it publicly.
but there it is; not only was wilson pursued for calling out the prez for misleading the congress and the public on iraq's wmd's, but the method of punishing him also got rid of an agent in charge of all that fact-finding they hate so much.

06.Sep.2006 ABC’s 9/11 Docudrama Mangles Facts, Smears Washington Post - Judd - ABC’s planned docudrama The Path to 9/11 contains numerous inaccuracies and misrepresentations. Here’s another one. On the second night of Path to 9/11, a CIA analyst makes the following complaint: Besides, ever since the Washington Post disclosed that we intercepted his calls, UBL [Usama bin Laden] stopped using phones altogether. He’s using couriers now, like they did a thousand years ago. This isn’t true on a number of levels. First, as Daniel Benjamin makes clear, the publication at issue is the Washington Times: Here’s what happened: On Aug. 21, 1998, the Washington Times, the capital’s unabashedly conservative newspaper, which regularly breaks more intelligence-related stories than any other daily, ran an article saying that Bin Laden “keeps in touch with the world via computers and satellite phones.” This occurred less than two weeks after the destruction of the U.S. embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam by al-Qaida and the day after the USA had bombed al-Qaida targets in Afghanistan and Sudan. After that report, Bin Laden stopped using his phone and let his aides do the calling. This story is recounted in both The Age of Sacred Terror (2002), which I co-wrote with my National Security Council colleague Steven Simonthe 9/11 Commission Report. Not only is the scene inconsistent with the 9/11 commission report, it’s perpetuating an urban myth. Actually, “Bin Laden’s use of a satellite phone had already been widely reported by August 1998he stopped using it within days of a cruise missile attack on his training camps in Afghanistan.” Why was it included anyway? One explanation: it is frequently cited by right-wing politicians “seeking to impose greater restrictions on the news media.” This is a film that doesn’t let the facts get in the way of its agenda.

06.Sep.2006 Richard Clarke Blasts Key Scene In ABC’s 9/11 Docudrama - Judd - 11.Sep.2006+11.Sep.2006 ABC is planning to air a “docudrama” called Path to 9/11, billed by writer Cyrus Nowrasteh as “an objective telling of the events of 9/11.” The first night of Path to 9/11 has a dramatic scene where former National Security Adviser Sandy Berger refuses to give the order to the CIA to take out bin Laden — even though CIA agents, along with the Northern Alliance, have his house surrounded. Rush Limbaugh, who refers to Nowrasteh as “a friend of mine,” reviews the action: So the CIA, the Northern Alliance, surrounding a house where bin Laden is in Afghanistan, they’re on the verge of capturing, but they need final approval from the Clinton administration in order to proceed. So they phoned Washington. They phoned the White House. Clinton and his senior staff refused to give authorization for the capture of bin Laden because they’re afraid of political fallout if the mission should go wrongif civilians were harmed…Now, the CIA agent in this is portrayed as being astonished. “Are you kidding?” He asked Berger over and over, “Is this really what you guys want?” Berger then doesn’t answer after giving his first admonition, “You guys go in on your own. If you go in we’re not sanctioning this, we’re not approving this,” and Berger just hangs up on the agent after not answering any of his questions. ThinkProgress has obtained a response to this scene from Richard Clarke, former counterterrorism czar for Bush I, Clinton and Bush IInow counterterrorism adviser to ABC: 1. Contrary to the movie, no US military or CIA personnel were on the ground in Afghanistan and saw bin Laden. 2. Contrary to the movie, the head of the Northern Alliance, Masood, was no where near the alleged bin Laden camp and did not see UBL. 3. Contrary to the movie, the CIA Director actually said that he could not recommend a strike on the camp because the information was single sourced and we would have no way to know if bin Laden was in the target area by the time a cruise missile hit it. In short, this scene — which makes the incendiary claim that the Clinton administration passed on a surefire chance to kill or catch bin Laden — never happened. It was completely made up by Nowrasteh. The actual history is quite different. According to the 9/11 Commission Report (pg. 199), then-CIA Director George Tenet had the authority from President Clinton to kill Bin Laden. Roger Cressy, former NSC director for counterterrorism, has written, “Mr. Clinton approved every request made of him by the CIA and the U.S. military involving using force against bin Laden and al-Qaeda.” Tell ABC to tell the truth about 9/11. 2. Why Mexico Matters. As you probably know, the real winner of the Mexican presidential election, Andres Manuel Lopez-Obrador, has announced his intention to set up a parallel government.
Michael Collins, friend to this blog, has a blockbuster piece on the Mexican vote revolt up on BradBlog. Here are two key grafs: After examining evidence form the election, Professor James K. Galbraith of the University of Texas concluded his analysis with these findings: (a) Obrador started out 126,000 votes in the hole (to Calderon's even start); (b) this error was never corrected; and (c) at the end of the night "adjustments" were made to make it appear Calderon won. There is an active community of academics in Mexico who are providing analyses demonstrating this absurdity.
This will sound familiar. Calderon's brother-in-law wrote the software program that tabulated and reported votes for the "independent" election institute. The brother-in-law denied this but Mexico's press actually investigates these things and forced him to admit his involvement by producing contracts his company had with the institute. 3. The drug jet. Slap me: I've let an entire week pass without mentioning Daniel Hopsicker's latest piece on that drug-laden Skyway jet - which, as we've seen, was owned and operated by some rather "spooky" folks here in the states. Read Hopsicker's piece in conjunction with the afore-cited expose by Michael Collins. Turns out the Spanish-language media have uncovered some fascinating news: The Mexican press is filled with reports of the involvement of a sizeable number of officers in the Federal Preventive Police (PFP), a 7-year old FBI-trained federal police force whose main mission, ironically, is enforcing Mexico’s laws against drug trafficking. More: Agents of two Mexican federal law enforcement agencies, the Policía Federal Preventiva (PFP) and of the Federal Agency of Investigación (AFI), reportedly attempted to prevent airport personnel from calling in the military to search the DC9 after it had aroused suspicions. Despite the obvious signs of his administration's involvement, Mexican President Vicente Fox has made a half-hearted attempt to blame the drug runs on Hugo Chavez and - of course - Andres Manuel Lopez-Obrador. Jeez, could these creeps be any more obvious?
4. "This is diabolical!" Such was Dennis Kucinich's reaction when he personally scoped out what Israel has wrought in Lebanon. Expect to see a flurry of hit-pieces denouncing Kucinich as an anti-Semite.
5. Google: A company that listens. Google is developing technology to eavesdrop on the audio obtainable from your PC mic; software will analyze the sounds and - get this - direct certain ads to your computer screen based on the type of television and radio programs overheard in your household.
Perhaps they will also try to sell you sex toys based on the way you moan.
Pretty soon the security industry is going to find a way to hijack the Google feed and use it for full on espionage.
Google says that its fingerprinting technology makes it impossible for the company (or anyone else) to eavesdrop on other sounds in the room, such as personal conversations, because the conversion to a fingerprint is made on the PCa fingerprint can't be reversed, as it's only an identity.
But we should think that "spyware" might take on an extra meaning if someone less scrupulous decided on a similar piece of software. Why speak in the future tense? Let's presume that dear old General Hayden beat Google to the punch.
We need a freeware solution - an onscreen button that will turn the mics off and on. Better still, let's have an "off" switch on the headsets.
We may also want to boycott Google. They're not the only search engine out there, you know.

Last week, in a graduation ceremony mysteriously underplayed by the white press, George W. Bush earned his master's degree from the Ronald Reagan Institute of Race Policy and Management. Reagan established the institute in 1980 by kicking off his presidential campaign at the Neshoba County Fair in Philadelphia, Miss. The Neshoba County Fair for decades had been the legendary gathering spot of segregationists and near the site of the grisly murders of three civil rights workers. Reagan took the microphone and, to the roar of thousands of white fairgoers, said, ''I believe in states' rights.'' Anyone who knows Southern race policy knows that saying ''states' rights'' is like waving a Confederate flag, telling racists they can do whatever they want to black folks. Reagan was never hounded by the press as to how he could make such a statement and expect to be elected as president. Reagan's handlers slyly scheduled a speech two days later before the Urban League. At the Urban League speech, Reagan said: ''For too many people, conservative has come to mean antipoor, antiblackantidisadvantaged. Perhaps some of you question whether a conservative really feels sympathy and compassion for the victims of social + economic misfortune and of racial discrimination.... If you think of me as the caricatured conservative, then I ask you to listen carefully and maybe you'll be surprised by our broad areas of agreement.'' History shows that the real Reagan was the one who spoke at the Neshoba County Fair and not the one at the Urban League. His presidency quickly became the most antipoor, antiblackantidisadvantaged in the latter half of the 20th century. Now, 20 years later, here comes George W. Bush. Stung by his defeat in the New Hampshire primary, Bush needed a trump card in the South Carolina Republican primary. This was a problem, since he and John McCain are running neck-and-redneck on issues dear to racists. Both have chickened out on saying it is time to stop flying the Confederate flag over the state capitol. Bush may have found his ace. He kicked off his homestretch drive in South Carolina by speaking at Bob Jones University. Bob Jones represents one of Reagan's early signs of being antiblack. Reagan fought to revoke the Internal Revenue Service's authority to deny charitable tax exemptions to the school. The denial was over the school's ban on interracial dating. The Supreme Court, in an 8-1 decision, rebuked Reagan, saying schools that practice racial segregation can indeed be denied tax exemptions. Reagan would later appoint the lone dissenter, William Rehnquist, to chief justice. Bob Jones University still bans interracial dating. George W.'s brother Jeb, the Florida governor who is married to a Latina, could not have graduated. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who has a white wife and who was appointed by George W.'s father, could not have graduated. Bob Jones also practices homophobia. Two years ago, when a gay, 60-year-old alum asked if he could come back to visit the school, the dean of students wrote back, ''With grief we must tell you that as long as you are living as a homosexual, you, of course, would not be welcome on the campus and would be arrested for trespassing if you did. We take no delight in that action. Our greatest delight would be in your return to the Lord.'' George W. took delight in validating this perverted version of Christianity, telling 6,000 students, almost all white, ''I look forward to publicly defending our conservative philosophy.'' He said he would seek ''compassionate results.'' But compassion could not have been foremost on Bush's mind, since it was only after the speech that he criticized the school's racial policies, not during it and not directly to the students.

Recently, the smell of panic has been getting mighty pungentthere may be reason to suspect perhaps there's more to it than the obvious. Larry Johnson has posted the tantalizing speculation that the reason there is so much fretting and strutting specifically about Fitz of late is that it's time to discredit the prosecutor, time to kill the messenger. This, he says, bodes a move from Fitz in the form of indictments for Cheney and Steven Hadley.

Foggo was, in turn, a long-time friend to the notorious Brent Wilkes, the prime mover in the Cunningham corruption scandal.
In a previous piece on Wilkes, I presented evidence suggesting that he has long had a relationship with the CIA. Wilkes had worked for the World Finance Corporation, a predecessor to BCCI. WFC, founded by anti-Castro Cuban Guillermo Hernandez-Cartaya, was, in the 1960s and 70s, the financial institution most favored by narcotics traffickers with CIA connections.
I hope the reader will forgive a lapse into self-quotation: If, as I suspect, Wilkes joined forces with WFC in the mid-1970 s, he may have played a role in the creation of a spin-off called the Dominican Mortgage Corporation, which shared the same address as WFC's Coral Gables HQ. This group heavily invested in Vegas - casinos, real estate development, even a detective agency.

John "Sparky" McLaughlin tried to take his family on vacation last July, only to discover that that an unknown agency had placed him on the terrorist "no-fly" list. This came as quite a surprise to McLaughlin: He's a cop. In fact, he once headed an effective anti-narcotics unit in Philadelphia.
Too effective. His 90s-era investigations of a drug ring run by citizens of the Dominican Republic brought him into conflict with no less a body than the CIA. His work was disparaged, smearedshut down. He fought for years to counter the allegations, eventually winning his day in court, along with a $1.5 million dollar judgment (now on appeal). Although his name was cleared, its appearance on a "no-fly" list suggests that "anti-terrorist" measures are being used to persecute a whistleblower.
All the evidence indicates that McLaughlin is a good cop who has made some powerful enemies. I suggest printing out every page and savoring the details over lunch. You won't find a more fascinating or frustrating true crime tale.

The question of governmental foreknowledge of 9/11 can be demonstrated to a reasonable probability solely by our preparations in advance of the Afghanistan war, supported by the history of synthetic terrorism perpetrated by the western alliance powers in the GLADIO program 'terror' attacks (which see)the long history of propagandized pretexts for this country's going to war.
On the record that anyone has paid attention to, the US apparently went from a dead standstill to invading a country across the world in not much more than one monthmaybe less.
What goes unmentioned in much of the 9/11 skeptic commentary is that US officials briefed Japanese and Indian officials in mid-2001 that the US planned a military overthrow of the Afghan government with a coalition of countries, with hostilities to commence 'by early October,' just as would eventually take place.
Moreover, on 10.Sep.2001 -large joint US/British army and naval forces in Operation BrightStar were pre-staged around Afghanistan. The naval armada was the largest ever such joint US/British 'exercise,' and on 9/10, after steaming for a considerable time in advance, those ships dropped anchor in the international waters closest to Afghanistan. Some 45,000 troops were moved closer to the Afghan theater of operations that day as well, to Oman, iirc. And coincidentally, of course, on 10.Sep.2001 Condaleeza Rice had a fully developed war plan against Afghanistan on Bush's desk just awaiting his signature and formal approval.
The plan required extensive landing rights be acquired in the 'Stan' countries around Afghanistan, but luckily, those had already been negotiated. More, we had already pre-based US troops in those countriesalso substantially created the infrastructure required, including prior construction of the lengthy runways required for heavy transport planes, etc.
The Indian government, aided by Israel, discovered that $100,000 had been ordered wired to Mohammed Atta from a cell phone whose number belonged to the head of ISI, Pakistan's CIA equivalent. This man spent two weeks in the US right through and past 11.Sep.2001, briefing every high level official, including the Congressional chairs of the intel committee, Richard Armitage, C. Rice, Dick Cheney, etc. After the FBI attested to the evidence brought forward against the head of the ISI, he was allowed to resign unmolested and unquestioned ('to spend more time with his family'?). # posted by Anonymous : 9:47 AM
