The most interesting new claims in the Costas Tsalikidis case come to us by way of Wikipedia. I have no idea who wrote this and cannot judge the veracity. As always, caveat lector : The most recent reports are of a 'mystery man' who has allegedly been providing information about the circumstances surrounding the death who had met with the family’s lawyer and insisted that the technician had been murdered. Themistoklis Sofos (the lawyer) said he met with the man, who has still not been identified, at a remote spot on the outskirts of Attica. All that is known about the informant is that he is not a Vodafone employee.
He told Sofos that Tsalikidis was murdered to prevent him from talking about the spy software he discovered in Vodafone’s system. The man named the alleged killers, some of whom had links to the mobile phone firm, he claimed. The resignation was strongly rejected by Vodafone + he continued to go to work until his death. It was also confirmed that a stormy meeting had taken place at the company the day before his death.
He had also expressed great concerns to his fiancée over something wrong going on at the company. He did not mention the bugging or any illegal activity, but he said something very wrong was happening and that if it became public it would create havoc. He had also said to his fiancée the last days before his death, that his departure from the company was a matter of life and death. Please do what you can to draw attention to what should be a huge story. Remember, the spying targets were politicians and military figures, not terrorists. If properly exposed, the Greek and Italian telecom scandals could demonstrate, once and for all, that anti-terrorism serves as an excuse for truly Orwellian offenses.

Cenk Uygur: The NeoClowns Are at it Again By Cenk Uygur on Iraq The New York Times had an article on Thursday about desperate neoclown warmongers who are dying for more war. This time the neoclowns want to attack Iran, because attacking Iraq went so well. Newt Gingrich had a gargantuanly stupid quote in the article, which we'll get to in a second. But first let me start with my favorite quote by a "senior USA official," otherwise known as a neoclown inside the Vice President's office. He is referring to the intelligence agencies who have found no evidence of an Iranian nuclear program: "We're not in a court of law," he said. "When they say there is 'no evidence,' you have to ask them what they mean, what is the meaning of the term 'evidence'?" Aren't these the same guys that were all over Clinton for asking what "is" is? Read the above sentence again. First, he admits that there is no evidence. Then, his best defense is to question what the word "evidence" means. That's embarrassing. This is a person in a position of power inside our government. Gee, I wonder how the intelligence got manipulated in the lead up to the Iraq War. If you'd like a refresher course, just watch how they're doing it right now with Iran. Here's my second favorite quote from the article:
"The consensus of the intelligence agencies is that Iran is still years away from building a nuclear weapon. Such an assessment angers some in Washington." Isn't it a good thing that they are years away from a nuclear weapon? Wouldn't it give us more time to figure out how to stop them? Not if you're a neoclown. This means war might be delayed. They must have war and they must have it right now . War, war, war. Now, we come to our old friend Newt Gingrich, who has stopped cheating on his wives long enough to make this absolutely asinine statement: "When the intelligence community says Iran is 5 to 10 years away from a nuclear weapon, I ask: 'If North Korea were to ship them a nuke tomorrow, how close would they be then?" Not as close as North Korea. Let me ask a very simple question: If North Korea already has the weapons and they are also in the axis of evil, why aren't we attacking them? Why are the neoclowns trying to attack a country that might buy it from the North Koreans when they could just attack North Korea, who they haven't paid a lick of attention to in six years? The answer is 100% undeniable - because it isn't about the weapons. That's just a convenient excuse used to scare the American people. Iraq didn't have any weapons and we're still in there three and half years later. It was never about the weapons. One of the main neoclown architects, Paul Wolfowitz, pretty much admitted it after the Iraq War started. Now, they're shamelessly bringing that old dead horse out again. Other quick points about Gingrich's buffoonish point: 1. Isn't he admitting that Iran doesn't have any weapons and would have to buy them from North Korea? What would prevent them from buying those weapons the day after our air strikes? 3. In fact, wouldn't they have a far greater incentive to buy nuclear weapons if we attacked them? Especially because they would have learned that their current weapons were not enough of a deterrent and North Korea's nuclear weapons were. You see, I don't think Gingrich is actually this dumb. But I do think he believes you are. He thinks he can sell any bag of goods to the US population because he is so much smarter than everyone else. Like when he so cleverly divorced his wife as she was lying in a hospital bed with cancer. Man, that was crafty. Look, I don't have a problem with neoclowns making these arguments. It's a free country. If you want to put on a shiny red nose and big floppy shoes and make clowning your calling in life, more power to you. What I don't get is why we're still going to the circus. Haven't we had enough of this freak show? These guys should be the laughing stock of the country right now. And here is all of Washington taking them very seriously to this day and having a legitimate discussion about whether we should attack another Middle Eastern country that did not attack us and has no weapons . How many times do we have to point out how absolutely insane that is before the people in power (politicians and the press) get it? It shouldn't that difficult. Anyone who backs this war drive will look back and regret it forever. Anyone who still wants to get in the car these neoclowns are driving is going to be eternally embarrassed. You're going to think - what was I thinking? Consider this a preemptive intervention. Get out of the clown car and slowly back away. It was caused by a sudden - in geological terms - doubling or tripling of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. "In certain regards, the PETM is very similar to what is happening right now," said Gerald Dickens, an earth scientist at Rice University in Houston. There is some thing very wrong with this sequence. Elections are not complete, anywhere, until they are officially certified by local authorities. How can a citizen get sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives before his or her election is certified? Only Speaker Dennis Hastert, his team + Bilbray have the answer.
In a filling in San Diego Municipal Court yesterday, attorney Paul Lehto outlined the core in stark terms: Defendants are in effect arguing for the remarkable proposition that unilateral self-serving actions by a majority party in the House of Representatives to shuttle in a member of the same party can be effective, even if those actions do violence to + amount to circumvention of other sections of the US Constitution as well as the California constitution. (Document available here). Lehto is one of the two attorneys representing citizens who are challenging the election. Shortly after the last vote was cast, citizens discovered disturbing facts. Prior to Election Day, several poll workers had taken home voting machines for periods of a day to a week at a time without supervision or even consistent tracking procedures. Other irregularities like vote switching on touch screen machines emerged. Brad Friedman of www.BradBlog.com conducted an extensive investigation that uncovered a series of sloppy procedures by County Registrar Haas.
The election became an immediate cause for citizens, supporters of the losing candidate + national voting rights activists. The results were also challenged by Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
A suit was filed by two local citizens challenging the election. The initial filing relied on the right of citizens to know that their votes are and counted correctly in order to assure that the candidate designated as the winner is in fact the winner. Part of the suit is a request, denied to date, for a recount of the ballots cast on Election Day.
In response to the suit, the County of San Diego filed a response questioning the authority of the local court to decide the case since (a) membership in the house was the province of the House of Representatives + (b) the speaker had already sworn in Bilbray.
Lehto + Simpkins filed a withering response to this argument. Ongoing support + interference by the House of Representatives or persons associated therewith continues in San Diego. Paul Vinovich, Counsel to the House Administration Committee, Chaired by Bob Ney, R, of Ohio, had a letter delivered to San Diego Superior Court presiding Judge Yuri Hoffman, with a number of arguments in favor of the Judge dismissing the case. This type of communication with members of the judiciary, particularly when another government authority is involved, is covered by strict rules. One such rule is that the ex parte communication be provided simultaneously to counsel for all involved. In his own hand, Vinovich says to plaintiff’s attorney Lehto, “Letter delivered to court last evening.” Lehto received the fax at 8:56 a.m. Thursday morning, many hours after the letter was admittedly provided to the judge by Vinovich.
In the letter, Vinovich admits the time sequence of a 13.Jul.2006 swearing in followed by a 29.Jul.2006 certification of the election and then, through circular reasoning, tries to use the certification as justification for the swearing in ceremony. He fails to note that Speaker Hastert would have needed psychic powers on 13.Jun.2006 to know that the swearing in of Bilbray would be justified by a 29.Jun.2006 certification.

(Heck, today it's been 60 degrees all day and rainy, with the same forecasted through the weekend. This is also New England!) But we have yet to slide past the Katrina anniversary, much less the end of the hurricane season, though it has been relatively quiet compared to last year. And then I am forced to consider the heat wave in Europe just three years ago when at least 35,000 died. Still, we have the temerity to complain.
But we should have the foresight to see the trends, if not the future + the determination to correct our course. I fear, though, that just like everywhere else, from medicine and education to the economy and politics in general, the solution will only look like a band-aid + not anything like a real cure. That will require a real acknowledgement of the nature and depth of this disease, this authoritarian slavemaster epidemic that threatens to destroy us all. Perhaps our greatest hope can be found in those who have suffered most, the Southern blacks, at least those who are able to recognize the symptoms and steer toward higher principles.
The South has many like Cynthia McKinney to offer as antedote, but just as many too who will only feed the sickness. Methinks this recovery - if we can even hope for it - will require a revelation within each of us, a moment of recognition that we each suffer from + participate in the problem + so must learn to huddle together, despite the heat, because we are all in this together. But we cannot afford to wait for more Katrinas or heatwaves or slavemaster corruption and destruction to wake us from this sultry Southern sleep. The affliction consumes us with every bite of trucked-in Georgia peach + with every breath of compressed cool air. Bush-Flughafen im texanischen Houston trauten ihren Augen nicht, als sie routinemäßig das Gepäck von Continental Airlines-Flug 52 aus Buenos Aires kontrollierten, bevor die Maschine ihren Flug nach New Jersey fortsetzen sollte. In einem Koffer des 21-jährigen Studenten Howard McFarland Fish, den dieser am Schalter aufgegeben hatte, entdeckten sie einen kleinen Sprengsatz.
