Last night, the Senate rejected a bill that combined the “Paris Hilton tax cut” with an increase in the minimum wage, dealing a blow to conservatives who thought they had “outfoxed” their opponents.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) continued to resist calls for a straight vote on the minimum wage.
“These issues must be addressed as a package, all or nothing,” he said. Unsurprisingly, conservative Senate leaders pushing hardest for further cuts in the estate tax are multimillionaires themselves.
For example, Frist boasts assets $10,584,000-$39,260,000 in blind trusts.
If one were to work a normal 40-hour week for 52 weeks a year for minimum wage, it would take between 988 and 3,665 years to amass Frist’s fortune.
While Frist has stringently supported large tax cuts for fellow multimillionaire trust babies + annual $3,300 pay raises for himself + his Senate colleagues,
he has thus far refused to give a small raise to the nearly 8 million Americans who live on $5.15 an hour.

A diverse group of 12 Democrats recently sent a letter to President Bush expressing their support for the principles of the Levin amendment.

A book published by the denominational press of the Presbyterian Church (USA) poses provocative questions about 11.Sep.2001 + has raised the hackles of church conservatives.
Westminster John Knox Press, a division of Presbyterian Publishing Corp., is printing 7,500 copies of "Christian Faith + the Truth Behind 9/11," according to Davis Perkins, the corporation's president + publisher.
It was officially released during the second week of July, Perkins said.
The book is written by David Ray Griffin, a former professor of theology who has written two other books that posit a conspiratorial link between the U.S. government + the 11.Sep.2001 terrorist attacks.

This was what lawyer David Schippers, (also known for having brought a case against President Bill Clinton before the Court of Impeachment) experienced when he was contacted by several FBI agents who claimed that they knew about dates, targets, financial transactions + names of the perpetrators involved in the impending terrorist attacks.
Schippers claims that armed with this information, he tried to warn John Ashcroft
six weeks in advance that a terrorist attack would be launched in lower Manhattan.
But the FBI threatened to sue their agents if they revealed what they knew.
In order to allow the information to be publicised before a terrorist attack took place, the agents agreed with David Schippers that he would represent them in a federal courtroom, supported by Judicial Watch, an organisation offering free legal assistance.
In this way they would have the opportunity to be heard if they were called as witnesses.
That the agents were in possession of the type of information Schippers claims they were was also confirmed by William Norman Grigg in The New American .
He interviewed three FBI agents who claimed that the information to which Schippers had access was common knowledge to the FBI

Here's my reaction to Tucker Carlson's statement that perhaps a new 9/11 investigation is needed.
The evidence is now so strong that the 9/11 Commission was a whitewash, that even imperial lapdog Tucker Carlson is saying we may need a new investigation. Sorry . . . but the time for investigation is OVER.
Why?
Because investigations are routinely undertaken by government when an administration doesn't want to DO anything.
"Let's do a study" is code for "let's delay as long as possible + hope people get distracted + forget the need to actually do something".
"Uh, we'll get back to you after we study it for a couple more years."
Its like studying global warming indefinitely instead of doing something like signing the Kyoto Protocol or demanding better gas mileage (if you don't agree about man-made global warming, then ignore this example.
But you still know the bureaucratic dynamic I'm talking about).
I demand action NOW + I'm not going to get distracted as a new 9/11 "investigation" drags on for years.
In addition to the delay + distract type of investigation, there is also a long tradition + history of whitewash cover-up investigations, like the investigation into how the Pearl Harbor attack happened +

It looks like you are doing a lot of good work and you are an honest advocate for truth about 9/11.
I have spent several hours considering whether I should send the following post.
By posting this, I'm throwing myself into the firing line to some degree + will be ridiculed for what I'm going to say.
I don't intend to mount of strong defense of my contention, so those of you who want a debate will not get one from me. However, consider the following.

Also, the article about the 9/11 Commission + the criminal referral published in the Wash Po. was a distractor. Many of the agents working as distractors are very sophisicated.
Let me point out just how powerful, integrated + cunning the manipulators are:
It's my contention that the Mel Gibson DUI episode was a carefullly scripted psyop.
I think Mel was acting. (I'm not saying he's wasn't drinking. I'm not saying that is didn't have tequila open in his car.
I am saying he wasn't drunk enough to be caught red handed + to make the whole scene the way he did).
I don't think the police had to have been "in on it" for the plan to work.
I think Zionist forces hatched an incredible plan to manipulate the debate about Jews + Israel to immobilize the huge sentiment about the US support + handling of the current War/Crisis.
If you think I'm crazy to speculate about such a things, I honestly ask any of you whether a blood alcohol content of .12 turns anyone into a lunitic who not only would have a great deal of unburdening to do related to Wars being caused by Jews, but also Gibson was alleged to have called a female deputy "sugar tits".
The Gibson DUI incident was a script written for our particular time in history + it was a fairly unchallenging role for an actor of Gibson's capability to have carried off.

Mandate of the 9/11 Commission
The 9/11 Independent Commission was established by law to "... ascertain, evaluate + report on the evidence developed by all relevant governmental agencies regarding the facts and circumstances surrounding the attacks; ..."make a full and complete accounting of the circumstances surrounding the attacks + the extent of the USA' preparedness for + immediate response to, the attacks..."
Recent stories in the Washington Post, the New York Times, as well as the release of the transcripts of the NORAD tapes in Vanity Fair, clearly show that the 9/11 Commission failed in its duties.
According to current reports, the Commission knew that it had been deceived by NORAD.
00.May 2003 representatives of NORAD testified, in full regalia, before the 9/11 Commission equipped with an easel + visual aids to highlight NORAD's timeline for the day of 11.Sep.2001 .
00.Jun.2004 NORAD testified again, changing its previous testimony.
The new timeline blamed the lack of military response on late notification by the FAA.
The Commissioners never determined or explained why there was a discrepancy between the two sets of testimonies.
Governor Kean is quoted in the Washington Post article as saying "we, to this day don't know why NORAD told us what they told us, it was just so far from the truth ...
It's one of those loose ends that never got tied".
The fact that the Commission did not see fit to tie up all loose ends in their final report or to
hold those who came before them accountable for lying +/or making misleading statements puts into question the veracity of the entire Commission's report.
Individuals who came before the Commission to testify, after NORAD's appearance, had no reason to state the truth.
It was abundantly clear that there would be no repercussions for any misrepresentations.
Furthermore, the lack of tenacity and curiosity, by the Commissioners themselves, to determine why NORAD had deceived them is unconscionable.
Knowing full well that the lack of military response was such a critical failure, begs the question of whether that same lack of tenacity + curiosity was applied to other critical areas of the 9/11 investigation.
We fought to establish the 9/11 Independent Commission because we believed that American citizens would be better served if our nation's vulnerabilities were uncovered and then fixed.
Unfortunately, once again the failure to fully + properly investigate all areas, not follow all leads + not address the need for accountability, whether it be bureaucrats lying at a hearing or personnel with questionable performance of assigned duties, continues to leave this Nation + its citizens vulnerable + at risk.
The 9/11 Commission was derelict in its duties.
What we needed from them was a thorough investigation into the events of 11.Sep.2001. Inexcusably, five years later, we still do.

I really enjoy Countdown with Keith Olbermann. However, yesterday he had Gerald Posner as a guest to evaluate the recently released NORAD tapes on 9/11.

Here's my take 9/11 Commission Co-Chairs Kean + Hamilton now admit they were too soft on Giuliani.
Republican Thomas Kean + Democrat Lee Hamilton also say in "Without Precedent" that their panel was too soft in questioning former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani +
that the 20-month investigation may have suffered for it.***
The book states that commission staff, "exceedingly frustrated" by what they thought could be deception, proposed a full review into why the FAA + the Pentagon's NORAD had presented inaccurate information.
That ultimately could have led to sanctions.
Due to a lack of time, the panel ultimately referred the matter to the inspectors general at the Pentagon + Transportation Department. Both are preparing reports, spokesmen said this week.
"Fog of war could explain why some people were confused on the day of 11.Sep.2001, but
it could not explain why all of the after-action reports, accident investigations + public testimony by FAA + NORAD officials advanced an account of 9/11 that was untrue," the book states.
The questioning of Giuliani was considered by Kean and Hamilton "a low point" in the commission's examination of witnesses during public hearings.
"We did not ask tough questions, nor did we get all of the information we needed to put on the public record," they wrote.
Commission members backed off, Kean and Hamilton said, after drawing criticism in newspaper editorials for sharp questioning of New York fire + police officials at earlier hearings.
The editorials said the commission was insensitive to the officials' bravery on the day of the attacks.
"It proved difficult, if not impossible, to raise hard questions about 11.Sep.2001 in New York without it being perceived as criticism of the individual police + firefighters or of Mayor Giuliani," Kean + Hamilton said.***
In their book, which goes on sale 15.Aug.2005 , Kean + Hamilton recap obstacles they say the panel faced in putting out a credible report in a presidential election year, including fights for access to government documents + an effort to reach unanimity. ***

As too few have noted, the draft has a tendency to shift societies to the left. According to one oft-told (but probably apocryphal) anecdote, a British soldier in World War II explained his vote against Churchill with these words: "I went into the army slightly pink and came out bloody red." A couple of decades later, the Vietnam-era draft gave rise to groups like Vietnam Veterans Against the War.

Das US-amerikanische Magazin "CQ" hatte jüngst über die Botschaft berichtet. Die rund 40-zeilige Stellungnahme der Qaida-Aktivisten liegt SPIEGEL ONLINE vor. Sie bezieht sich explizit auf die gegenwärtigen Ereignisse im Libanon und attackiert die Hisbollah scharf. Diese sei nur ein "Werkzeug der persischen (iranischen, Anm. d. Red.) Regierung" und dürfe daher nicht gefördert werden. "Die Hisbollah und ihren Sieg zu unterstützen würde uns ein großes Problem schaffen", schreiben die Autoren. "Denn das würde die Popularität der Abtrünnigen stärken.
Sie wären die Kraft, die die Juden besiegt hätte + die Zahl der Unterstützer für die Hisbollah würde steigen."

Dort werden in wenigen Tagen aus einem Plasmodium-Parasiten bis zu 40.000. In dieser Zeit hält der Erreger seine Wirtszelle am Leben.
Diese Phase entspricht der Inkubationszeit zwischen dem Stich durch eine malariaverseuchte Anophelesmücke und den ersten Symptomen der Infektion wie Schüttelfrost und Fieber. Will der Erreger dann zurück in die Blutbahn, tötet er seine Wirtszelle.

Ars Technica says it's the 'World's Worst Internet Law.'" From the Ars story: "According to the EFF, 'The treaty requires that the U.S. government help enforce other countries' 'cybercrime' laws--even if the act being prosecuted is not illegal in the USA. That means that countries that have laws limiting free speech on the Net could oblige the F.B.I. to uncover the identities of anonymous U.S. critics, or monitor their communications on behalf of foreign governments. American ISPs would be obliged to obey other jurisdictions' requests to log their users' behavior without due process, or compensation.;"
