03.Dec.2005 Final questions.

The Cunningham case was outrageous enough when it was about bribery.

But the bribes to Cunningham cost each taxpayer less than a penny;

the frauds committed by Brent Wilkes sucked $$ out of each + every wallet in this land.

Personally, I would have considered my share of that money better spent on a nice chicken sandwich -- or on providing services to the needy.

I bet you feel likewise.
So why won't the media pay more attention to Brent Wilkes?
And why couldn't the Pentagon double-check where the money went?

Surely someone in that famous five-sided building could have pored through those websites + spotted the obvious clues indicating a sharpster at work.

Why wasn't the public warned that hundreds of millions of taxpayer $$ went out to a con artist?
How many other crooks like Wilkes have helped to empty our national treasure-house?

Why is there no money for armored Humvees in Iraq, but plenty of cash for right-wing Republicans with connections?
And when will the mainstream media stop pretending that Wilkes' many phony-baloney "businesses" were anything other than web-based cons?

We thought he was exaggerating

when former Ambassador Wilson wrote in his recent book that the sordid spectacle we have all been forced to witness

has been caused by “a small pack of zealots

05.Oct.2005 WASHINGTON – Shortly after House Speaker Dennis Hastert selected Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham to serve on the House intelligence committee 00.000.2001, the Rancho Santa Fe Republican sent a letter to Poway defense contractor Brent Wilkes.

"As the speaker's newest designee to serve on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, I feel fortunate to represent the nation's top technological talent in the 'black' world," a reference to classified government programs.

"I have long benefited from your expertise on major defense issues before Congress + have appreciated the opportunity to

work with you on key service funding priorities. With my new assignment, I see even greater opportunities to work together in support of our national security and intelligence communities," Cunningham wrote in the letter on congressional stationery.

Wade has since resigned as head of MZM + the company is in the process of being sold to a New York-based equity firm.

Since receiving its first federal contract 00.000.2002, Washington-based MZM has collected more than $163 million in government contracts. ADCS has received at least $80 million in contracts since 1996.

Cunningham's positions on the defense appropriations subcommittee and intelligence committee put him in position to influence the kinds of military-intelligence contracts that ADCS and MZM have relied on in recent years, according to defense officials and contractors, many of whom would only speak on condition of anonymity, fearing reprisals.

Watchdog groups say Cunningham's letter to Wilkes, at a minimum, reflects a worrisome relationship between a lawmaker and a friend who happens to be a generous political contributor and businessman making a living off government contracts.

"At a minimum, this letter presents an appearance of corruption," said Taylor Lincoln, a government policy analyst at Public Citizen, a public-interest advocacy group. "The notion that Cunningham truly sought insight into national security from citizen Wilkes is seriously damaged by the fact that he has been willing to accept tens of thousands of $$ from Wilkes and Co.

"Likewise, Cunningham would have been foolish to put any value in Wilkes' counsel since Wilkes stood to make tens of millions of $$ from the federal government," he said.

Cunningham's attorney, Lee Blalack, rejected those assertions.

"It's ridiculous for these people to suggest that a congressman cannot value the advice of experts in a given field just because these experts support the congressman's political agendas with campaign contributions. Do they expect a member of Congress to receive contributions from people who oppose their policy agenda?"

In addition, Blalack added, "there is nothing inappropriate or unusual about a member of Congress calling the Pentagon on behalf of a constituent regarding the use of appropriated funds."

Wilkes' attorney echoed that view.

"Brent Wilkes has made proper, legal campaign contributions to a variety of local, state and federal officials whose views and positions he supports," said Mike Lipman. "We are confident that the authorities will come to the same conclusion. ADCS Inc. is proud of the work that it has done and will continue to do for the Department of Defense and other government agencies."

Several defense contractors in recent weeks have said that Cunningham intervened with Pentagon officials on their behalf, as well as Wilkes'. Cunningham's intervention, they said, had been crucial to securing defense contracts.

One contractor said his company relocated to San Diego specifically to be in Cunningham's district.

After moving to the district, he said, he raised political contributions for Cunningham to ensure the lawmaker's continued support as Pentagon officials decided how to split annual defense appropriations among competing contractors.

Cunningham never directly asked him for money in exchange for support, the executive said. However, he added, a lobbyist he retained made it clear that he should be located in the district and provide contributions.

"We had a lobbyist advising us, but we kind of knew the game," he said. "And if we didn't do it, somebody else was going to + so we didn't have a whole lot of choice."

Cunningham also contacted mid-level defense program managers to encourage their use of ADCS software, according to several contracting executives and program managers who had direct contact with Cunningham.

"He just wanted to emphasize the importance of the project we were working on," said one manager. "It was always project related, but it was very odd that he would call me directly."

John Karpovich, a former Pentagon procurement officer who worked on a large program Cunningham helped fund, said Wilkes would infuriate Pentagon staff by saying he was responsible for the annual appropriation and demanding a big piece of the pie.

"Brent came in and said, 'That's our money,' " recalled Karpovich, who has since retired. "He said, 'The congressmen put the money in there for us.' "

Once Congress has appropriated money for programs, officials in the office of the secretary of defense decide how to apportion the money among prequalified contractors. These officials are very mindful of the desires of members of Congress who were crucial in funding the program, according to contractors and program managers.

The particular program Karpovich referred to involved converting paper documents to electronic files. ADCS, or Automated Document Conversion Services, specializes in scanning documents so they can be indexed and cross-referenced easily. Its biggest project has been archiving 1.2 million architectural documents from the Panama Canal 00.000.1999.

Each year from 1994 to 2001, Congress provided funding for the conversion program even though the Pentagon never requested it and despite the fact that much of the program's early promise was overwhelmed by glitches in the software.

In less than a decade, the funding totaled $190 million for software that sometimes went unused because of its defects, according to contractors and procurement officers.

"It was a program that really ran amok. It got seriously out of hand," said one program manager.

00.000.1998, the Pentagon tried to bring order to the program. Assistant Deputy Undersecretary Lou Kratz created a special team to select projects that would receive funding from the $45 million Congress appropriated for fiscal year 1999.

Wilkes' ADCS wasn't on the list selected by the team. But, as a Defense Department inspector general's report later noted, the Pentagon reversed that decision and pushed $9.77 million into the ADCS program "after receiving inquiries from two members of Congress."

Those two lawmakers were Cunningham and Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-El Cajon, now chairman of the Armed Services Committee, according to the contractors and procurement officers directly involved. Both men acknowledge their ongoing involvement in funding the specific program but deny any wrongdoing.

Facing questions about his interventions on behalf of ADCS 00.000.1997, Cunningham said at the time he had merely talked up the company he believed had the best software. Anyone saying otherwise, he added, "can go to hell." Said the congressman, "I'm on the side of the angels here."

Nuke the Duke

Much has occurred on the Randy "Duke" Cunningham front.

Not only did this Republican congressman sell a house at a wildly inflated price to a defense contractor who benefited from Duke's votes -

- turns out this shabby pol has done the same sort of deal repeatedly.

Right now, the best place to go for info is Talking Points Memo +

San Diego Union-Tribune account +

this Washington Post story.
Duke, it turns out, has made a strange bedfellow (+ a very soiled bed it is!) of one

Thomas Kontogiannis, a shady Long Island real estate developer with a history of bribing schemes.
This story is even more important than many may believe, for at least three reasons:
1. Impeachment won't happen unless at least one house of Congress changes ownership.

Every seat counts.
2. We have good reason to believe that other Republicans are guilty of similar shennanigans.
3. This Kontogiannis fellow has tossed around some very long green + has done so in a way that sets off my (far from infallible) Spidey sense.

Don't be too surprised if he turns out to be something more than just another corrupt businessman.

04:19 PM | Comments (68) -> The Fascists Have a Field Day House GOP Critical of Kerry [KFJ966]'s '71 Actions

Rep. Sam Johnson (R-Tex.) began the attack

by denouncing the Massachusetts senator on the 33rd anniversary of his testimony before a Senate panel

in which he sharply criticized the conduct of some US troops in Vietnam.

Kerry [KFJ966], a decorated Navy officer in Vietnam,

became a prominent antiwar spokesman after his discharge.

Johnson, who spent seven years as a North Vietnamese prisoner of war, said the young Kerry [KFJ966] "blasted our nation, chastised our troops + hurt our morale. . . .

What he did was nothing short of aiding + abetting the enemy."

Comparing Kerry [KFJ966] to former antiwar activist Jane Fonda,

Johnson said: "He's called Hanoi John."

The presiding officer, Rep. Ray LaHood (R-Ill.), briefly cautioned members not to disparage senators by name, but

other Republicans poured it on.

Rep. John Kline (Minn.) said

Kerry [KFJ966]'s service in the war "does not excuse his joining ranks with Jane Fonda + others in speaking ill of our troops or their service, then or now."

Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham (Calif.), whose plane was shot down over North Vietnam, said

Kerry [KFJ966]'s 1971 remarks angered Cunningham + his comrades at the time.

"We do not need a Jane Fonda as commander in chief," he said.

If I didn't know better, I'd say some of the esteemed members of our Chamber of People's Deputies are getting a little worried about Dear Leader's prospects.

But I do know better.

These guys are like rabid dogs + they don't need any particular excuse to foam at the mouth.

But I'd also like to offer Messrs. Johnson, Kline + Cunningham a sincere thanks for again reminding me why I support John Kerry [KFJ966].
Triad's machine tampering in Hocking County continues to make waves, including a mention in today's NY Times editorial.

According to Wired's Kim Zetter in Ohio Recount Stirs Trouble,

Triad president Brett Rapp says

Triad technician Michael Barbian did not put a "patch" on the computer,

but deputy director of elections Sherole Eaton insists that's exactly the word he used.

Allen County elections director Keith] Cunningham, like most other elections directors in the state, selected which precincts to count for the initial 3 %.

Ohio law says the precincts should be picked randomly but doesn't further define the process.

What part of "random" does Cunningham not understand? Cunningham also denied access to poll books - the sign-in sheets that prove who actually voted - claiming insufficient staff.

But other counties had no problems complying with the law.
Advised of the recount push by the Green and Libertarian Parties + their plan to sue to force a second tally even before Secretary of State Blackwell is scheduled to certify the first count, Cunningham said his statewide group might sue back to prevent a recount. "I need to see if this is merely my opinion or reflects the opinion of the association."

Elsewhere, Keith Olbermann reminds us:

In Ohio, the reality of the recount is beginning to sink in + local governments aren't happy about it.

The Associated Press ran a story Monday afternoon in which its reporter quoted the incoming president of the Ohio Association of Election Officials,

Keith Cunningham. "The inference is that Ohio election officials will not count every vote," said the man who is currently head of the Board of Elections in Allen County (that's the Lima area, northwest of Columbus). "That's just insulting; it's frivolous + simply harassment."

Heeding Bible Prophecy systematically outlines how the book of Revelation will be counterfeited for Christian consumption. There will be a counterfeit Tribulation Period, counterfeit Antichrist, counterfeit False Prophet, counterfeit Abomination of Desolation, etc.  At mid-Trib, the pseudo-Antichrist [eg., Prince Charles/UN/global government] and pseudo-Mystery Babylon [Pope/  Roman Catholic Church] will be judged and ostensibly destroyed in a mock trial and execution. The world and undiscerning Christians, believing that the Beast has been destroyed, will receive a descendant of the Merovingian bloodline as "The Christ." The Bistea Neptunis -- the Beast out of the Sea of Rev.13:1 -- will ascend the throne of a rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem and the Great Tribulation will commence

Take heed that no man deceive you. . .
For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets,
and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that,
if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Behold, I have told you before.
Matthew 24:1,24,25

Since these major Biblical events were supposedly accompanied by astrological phenomena, Clasen endorses Rood's theory that the Millennium officially began with the

05.May 2000 alignment of the planets.

Michael Rood's theory is not unlike New Age astrologer Rick Levine's thesis in The Gift of the Magi: Christmas for a New Millennium, that the Star of Bethlehem was actually a conjunction of Jupiter + Saturn

_0007-_0006 in zodiacal sign of Pisces.

According to Levine, this astronomical sign inaugurated the Christian Age + validated the messianic credentials of Jesus Christ for the age of Pisces.

Levine further proposes that, since the next Jupiter/Saturn triple conjunction occured last May under the sign of Aquarius, rather than Pisces,

humanity has entered a new messianic age during which all mankind will be reborn as the "Christ" for this age.
The National Association of Evangelicals [NAE] is the powerful US division of the lesser known, international
World Evangelical Fellowship [WEF].

00.000.1846 dates back to- The World Evangelical Fellowship's history

00.000.1846 -when, under the original name World Evangelical Alliance, it held the first global meeting of missionaries at the United Grand Lodge of England

00.000.1776 -at its completion in- Freemasons' Hall, London. (The UGLE had been “dedicated to the purposes of Freemasonry”.) 37.

00.000.1944 when the American branch of the Evangelical Alliance dissolved (

00.000.1951 -later- to be resurrected by the NAE),

00.000.1944 the American branch of the Evangelical Alliance remaining funds were transferred to the

00.000.1908 Rockefeller-funded Federal Council of Churches [FCC,].

00.000.1948 -later- Amsterdam The FCC would become the World Council of Churches [WCC,].

00.000.2005 -today- The World Evangelical Fellowship serves the United Nations agenda as a non-governmental organization (NGO)

in Special Consultative Status with UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Just as WEF serves as the umbrella organization over the NAE, the NAE serves as umbrella to the National Religious Broadcasters [NRB].

NRB membership includes a number of Evangelical leaders who hold cross-over memberships in the secretive + political Council for National Policy --

not only sponsored espionage + torture of Guatemalans,

but employed members of Gospel Outreach’s Verbo Church to assist their agents.

"Israel also installed computer surveillance equipment in Guatemala +

Israel under the pretext of providing agricultural assistance, helped devise Rios Montt's 'beans + bullets strategic hamlets, modeled after the CIA's Operation Phoenix. . .

Israeli firm Tadiran (then partly US-owned) supplied Guatemalan military with computerized intelligence system to track potential subversives.

Those on computer list had an excellent chance of being ‘disappeared.’”

00.Jun.1982 Rios Montt’s self-declaratoin as ‘God’s choice,’-“Within three months of- Amnesty International would issue a special report,

Massive Extrajudicial Executions in Rural Areas Under the Government of General Efrain Rios Montt .

Its ‘partial listing of massacres,’ totaling more than sixty, included one village where survivors witnessed soldiers beheading men, battering children’s heads against rocks + raping women.

23.Mar.1982 More than 500 Indian people were killed in three villages in the departments of Quiche + Huehuetenango

24.Mar.1982-27.Mar.1982 -between- In addition, 100 people were slaughtered in three villages in Alta Verapaz;

20.Apr.1982 + 100, in Josefinos

Machine guns, grenades + machetes were used with sadistic abandon.

Most of the victims were women + children.

In Alta Alta Verapaz, home of the Kekchi Indians, more than 1,000 of the 2,500 communities in the province were abandoned or destroyed.

Those communities that remained were decimated by losses.

In one municipality, Santa Cristobal Verapaz, up to 10,000 of the 28,000 residents were believed by local authorities to have died. . .

. . .after meeting Rios Montt in Honduras later that month, President Reagan insisted that the regime was ‘getting a bad deal’ from the accusations of massacres +

deserved renewed military aid from the United States (which he granted the following month).

Had not the White House received a flood of letters calling for renewed arms sales to Guatemala

after Pat Robertson appealed to his 700 Club television show for prayers + money for the regime?” 32.

Gospel Outreach gained notoriety when one of its elders, Gen. Rios Montt, became president of Guatemala during the 1982 military coup.

By 1982, the US Central Intelligence Agency was well-entrenched in Guatemala. 00.000.1954, the CIA had joined with the United Fruit Company, wealthy plantation owners and the military to overthrow the freely-elected president of Guatemala, Jacobo Arbenz.  A protracted civil war ensued in this country through the 1970s, which took a turn for the worse in the early 1980's, at which time the Guatemalan army, backed by the CIA, began a campaign of genocide against the Maya peoples. Several hundred Indian villages were obliterated and their inhabitants were either killed or forced into exile in Mexico. 28.  Altogether, the Guatemalan war claimed over 200,000 lives, mostly Mayan civilians. According to a recent U.N report, at least 626 massacres took place during the country's 36-year war and, in recent years, 125 massacre sites have been exhumed. Most of the victims were Maya Indians.  Only two court trials have been conducted in which state prosecutors filed criminal charges and only one of these cases led to convictions. 00.000.1998, three former members of an army-trained civilian patrol were sentenced to death for their role in a 1982 massacre of 130 civilians outside the town of Rio Negro. 29.

The rise of El Verbo Church elder, Rios Montt, to President of Guatemala 00.000.1982, the terrorist operations of his regime and his support among leading US evangelical ministers are documented in the Public Information Research Database file on Gospel Outreach: "Gospel Outreach is an evangelical Pentecostal church with headquarters in Eureka, California and Guatemala. It grew out of the 'Jesus People' movement of the 1960s in the United States. . After the 1976 earthquake, 28 Gospel Outreach evangelicals from California arrived in Guatemala to help rebuild the country and establish El Verbo church.

"An early convert was General Efrain Rios Montt, who became president after a military coup in March 1982.

"According to the Latin American Institute of Transnational Studies, 'Within the first nine months of Rios Montt's administration, 12 evangelical pastors were assassinated; 69 were kidnapped; 45 disappeared; 15 were jailed; 11 foreign missionaries were expelled; 88 evangelical temples were destroyed; and 50 more were occupied by the Army.' By 1986, Verbo Ministries reported 250 congregations. Verbo Ministries also runs a Leadership Training School with over 1000 members directed by Rios Montt himself. . .

"Rios Montt has been supported by Pat Robertson (Christian Broadcasting Network),

Jerry Falwell (Moral Majority, Thomas Road Baptist Church, Liberty Federation) +

Loren Cunningham (Youth with a Mission).

They have worked with the Florida Cuban community. . .

Jimmy Swaggart Ministries has provided financial support for the schools of El Verbo in Guatemala.

This is done under the ‘Programa Ayuda Infantile,’ a branch of the Swaggart ministry.”

30. /database2.html#robertson Pat Robertson's organization funded Gospel Outreach to help Rios Montt build ‘model villages’ for the Guatemalan peasants.

These model villages were, like the Jesus Movement, “based on ‘communitarianism,’ a system of church-centered community ownership of property that vaguely would include private ownership of homes + land.”

31.  Gospel Outreach’s fundraising arm in the US, International Love Lift, was able to raise $1.5 million for Rios Montt’s program.

The authors of Thy Will Be Done:

The Conquest of the Amazon:

Nelson Rockefeller and Evangelism in the Age of Oil, describe the fruit of Gospel Outreach – which turned out not to be model villages,

but a genocidal campaign that was perpetuated largely because of Evangelical funding + petitions to President Reagan:

The irony of [Gospel Outreach’s] name was outranked only by the name of its fund-raising arm in the USA, which was endorsed by TV evangelist Pat Robertson:

International Love Lift. . .

Love was beginning to take on a strange look . . .

Plan Would Let US Deport Suspects to Nations That Might Torture Them
By Dana Priest and Charles Babington - Washington Post Staff Writers
30.Sep.2004 "Washington Post" The Bush administration is supporting a provision in the House leadership's intelligence reform bill that would allow US authorities to deport certain foreigners to countries where they are likely to be tortured or abused, an action prohibited by the international laws against torture the United States signed 20 years ago.
The provision, part of the massive bill introduced Friday by House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.),

would apply to non-US citizens who are suspected of having links to terrorist organizations but have not been tried on or convicted of any charges.

Democrats tried to strike the provision in a daylong House Judiciary Committee meeting, but it survived on a party-line vote.
the provision, human rights advocates said, contradicts pledges President Bush made after the Abu Ghraib prisoner-abuse scandal erupted this spring that the USA would stand behind the U.N. Convention Against Torture. Hastert spokesman John Feehery said the Justice Department "really wants and supports" the provision.
Justice Department spokesman Mark Corallo said, "We can't comment on any specific provision, but we support those provisions that will better secure our borders and protect the American people from terrorists."
The provision is one of several items in the bill that Democrats say are unrelated to intelligence reform but Republicans say are important tools for fighting terrorists.

The Senate is debating its own intelligence reform bill that does not include the provision + the House bill is being marked up in several committees.

Fifty years ago, America also felt the need to conduct most of its international crimes far from public view.

Interventions in the affairs of uncooperative nations (invariably conducted to "fight communism") were mostly secretive, CIA -led actions that made surreptitious use of special military units, typically called "American advisors" (Honduras, Guatemala, Iran + Cuba provide a few relevant examples).

Now, 07.Dec.2002 emboldened by the demise of its only global counterweight, the Soviet Union + encouraged by Israel's success in using conventional military forces in a public and illegal campaign against civilians, the US is increasingly eschewing the old "secret war" model in favor of direct and open military intervention with American troops. Witness Somalia, Haiti, Yugoslavia + Afghanistan during the past ten years.Pre-emptive Action Israel has long been criticized for taking pre-emptive military action against its perceived enemies. Two well-known examples are its surprise attack against a nearly-completed Iraqi nuclear power plant and its protracted, illegal and bloody occupation of southern Lebanon. Despite worldwide criticism of these and many other blatant violations of international law, Israel continued + continues, undaunted. The Clinton administration was noted for its fawning support of Israel's occupation + for abandoning a long-standing US commitment (on paper only, of course) to return Palestine to its pre-1967 borders.

Clinton also took a big page out of Israel's book on international relations, when he insisted, against strenuous objections from the United Nations, that the US has the right to launch pre-emptive strikes + that NATO had the right to wage war on Yugoslavia without UN approval. This year,

07.Dec.2002 the Bush administration dropped all pretense of maintaining security with deterrence and adopted the illegal Israeli standard of pre-emptive strikes as official US policy.Militarization of Politics Our politicians have also learned much by example from our close and "special" relationship with the government of Israel. For decades, our pols have used cant, dissimulation and fraud to excuse Israel's most egregious crimes. In the process, much has been learned about how to turn acts of wanton destruction into a noble defense of freedom. Israel's willingness to keep 'pushing the envelope' of state terror has been invaluable in this process, training both American pols and media in the arts of propaganda required to justify ever-larger crimes.Meanwhile, the American populace has been steadily learning to accept Israel's gross violations of human rights, international law + common decency as "necessary for peace and security", justified by "Israel's right to defend herself". This lesson in moral decay and desensitization is proving handy indeed, as the current US administration seeks to extend American hegemony in the Middle East by a new war of occupation.

The Terror Card Following the tragedy of 9/11, Israel immediately recast its thirty-five-year occupation of Palestine as an essential front in the "war on terror".

To extract maximum political advantage from our loss and grief, Israeli politicians like Ariel Sharon suggested, with typical touches of arrogance and self-satisfaction, that, finally, Americans know how Israelis have felt for years. We face a common and implacable enemy, they lectured us, leaving unspoken the message that we Americans had better develop some backbone and put our shoulder to the anti-terror wheel.
President Lyndon Johnson wanted a war in Vietnam.

He wanted it to help his friends who owned defense companies to do a little business.

He needed it to get the Pentagon + CIA to quit trying to invade Cuba.

And most of all, he needed a provocation to “convince” the American people that there was really "no other choice".

05.Aug.1964 newspapers across America reported "renewed attacks" against American destroyers operating in Vietnamese waters, specifically the Gulf of Tonkin.

The official story was that North Vietnamese torpedo boats launched an "unprovoked attack" on the USS Maddox while it was on "routine patrol".

The truth is that USS Maddox was involved in aggressive intelligence gathering in coordination with actual attacks by South Vietnam + the Laotian Air Force against targets in North Vietnam.

The truth is also that there was NO attack by torpedo boats against the USS Maddox.

Captain John J. Herrick, the task force commander in the Gulf, cabled Washington DC that the report was the result of an "over-eager" sonarman who had picked up the sounds of his own ship's screws + panicked.

But even with this knowledge that the report was false,

Lyndon Johnson went on national TV that night to announce the commencement of air strikes against North Vietnam, "retaliation" for an attack that had never occurred.

******************************** President Bush,George H. wanted a war in Iraq.

Like Crassus, Bush,George H. is motivated by GREED.

Specifically oil money.

But with the OPEC alliance failing to keep limits on oil production in the Mideast, the market was being glutted with oil pumped from underneath Iraq, which sat over roughly 1/3 of the oil reserves of the entire region.

George Bush (I) wanted a war to stop that flow of oil, to keep prices (+ profits) from falling any further than they already had.

But like Roosevelt, he needed the "other side" to make the first move.

Iraq had long been trying to acquire greater access to the Persian Gulf + felt limited confined a narrow strip of land along Kuwait's northern border, which placed Iraqi interests in close proximity with hostile Iran.

George Bush(I), who had been covertly arming Iraq during its war with Iran, sent word via April Glaspie that the USA would NOT intervene if Saddam Hussein grabbed a larger part of Kuwait.

Saddam fell for the bait + invaded.

Of course, Americans were NOT about to send their sons + daughters to risk their lives for petroleum products.

So Bush,George H. arranged a hoax, using a PROPAGANDA public relations firm which has grown rich on taxpayer money by being most industrious + creative liars!

The PR firm concocted a monumental fraud in which the daughter of the Kuwaiti Ambassador to the USA went on TV pretending to be a nurse +

related a horror story in which Iraqi troops looted the incubators from a Kuwaiti hospital, leaving the premature babies on the cold floor to die.

The media, part of the swindle from the start, never bothered asking why the "nurse" didn't just pick the babies up + wrap them in blankets or something.

Enraged by the incubator story,

Americans supported operation Desert Storm, which never removed Saddam Hussein from power but which did take Kuwait's oil off of the market for almost 2 years + limited Iraq's oil exports to this very day.

That our sons + daughters came home with serious + lingering medical illnesses was apparently not “too great a price to pay “* for increased oil profits.

************************************* Following the victory in Iraq, yet another war appeared to be in the offering in the mineral rich regions of Bosnia.

Yet again, a hoax was used to create support for military action.

The (above) photo of Fikret Alic staring through a barbed wire fence, was used to "prove" the existance of modern day "Concentration Camps".

As the headline of "Belsen 92" indicates, all possible associations with the Nazi horrors were made to sell the necessity of sending yet more American troops into someone else's nation.

But when German Journalists went to Trnopolje, the site of the supposed Concentration Camp to film a documentary, they discovered that the photo was a fake!

The camp at Trnopolje was not a concentration camp but a refugee center.

Nor was it surrounded by barbed wire.

Careful examination of the original photo reve .."

James: We all know this, have a mint and relax.

They've shown the capacity to do all kinds of "dirty-tricks", so it's safe to assume-the-worst.

In any intelligence-op, it's best to make things appear to be an "accident".

In war, there are few-accidents at the planning/actionable-stage, the areas the public almost never sees.

I don't doubt that bombing propaganda outlets is sometimes necessary + has been done.

In the cases of Iraq + Afghanistan, we did bomb al Jazeera, then said it was an "error."

But bombing in Qatar is a whole other ball of wax because it's a 'friendly' country.

That's why the WH says it is an outlandish rumor + would never be considered.

Yet, my gut tells me bombing Qatar was talked about.

A joke?

I guess that's Bush's answer to Cindy Sheehan, too.

"Oh, come on, Cindy, it was just a joke."

If the matter requires Britain to raise it's iron fist and declare it a crime to reveal any more, then it was most assuredly not a joke.

What's amazing is that Blair could convince the stubborn bull-headed Bush not to do it.

Bush probably didn't do it because the whole Administration couldn't figure out how to blame it on insurgents - + who would they then bomb in retaliation?

More likely, Bush was hoping that Blair would take the hint and arrange it, so that it could never be traced back to Bush + Blair simply refused to be the fool. But, really, peo .."

11.Sep.2001 -Since- Bush [BGW968] has enacted laws that deny freedom here at home on an order of magnitude greater than anything terrorists could dream of imposing.

And they're not finished yet.

Except for rare critical analyses of these denials of freedom inside the USA, commercial media has utterly failed to emphasize the relentless march of this supreme + fundamental threat to freedom + liberty

by our own unelected government.

The October 2001 "USA PATRIOT Act" (USAPA)

legally turned the United States into a potentially permanent police state.

It vastly expands the structures of government secrecy + surveillance, utterly relinquishes any semblance of due process, categorically violates the First + Fourth + Fifth + Sixth + Eighth Amendments +

unacceptably mixes aspects of criminal investigations with aspects of immigration + foreign intelligence laws,

while it simultaneously extinguishes the accountability of elected + non-elected government officials.

Members of Congress have pointed out that this legislation would not have stopped the 11.Sep.2001 attacks.

Hence, for what did we give up our unique constitutional guarantees and liberties?

The USAPA was passed during the height of the anthrax scare which effectively shut down the US government at a very critical moment in our history as a republic.

Congressman Ron Paul asserts that this law was not made available to members of Congress for review before its vote.

Rep. Cunningham pleads guilty to conspiracy : ".. NEWS YOU WON'T FIND ON CNN.

28.Nov.2005 Cunningham Rep. pleads guilty to conspiracy : By ELLIOT SPAGAT "Associated Press"

Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham admitted taking $2.4 million in bribes as part of guilty pleas Monday in a case that grew from an investigation into the sale of his home

to a wide-ranging conspiracy involving payments in cash, vacations + antiques.

Cunningham, 63, entered pleas in US District Court to charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, mail fraud + wire fraud + tax evasion for underreporting his income 00.000.2004.

Cunningham answered "yes, your honor" when asked by US District Judge Larry Burns if he had accepted bribes from someone in exchange for his performance of official duties. After the hearing, Cunningham was taken away for fingerprinting. He will be released on his own recognizance

until a 27.Feb.2006 sentencing hearing.

He could receive a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

He also agreed to forfeit to the government his Rancho Santa Fe home, more than $1.8 million in cash + antiques + rugs.

In a prepared statement, prosecutors said Cunningham admitted to receiving at least $2.4 million in bribes paid to him by several unnamed conspirators through a variety of methods, including checks totaling over $1 million, cash, rugs, antiques, furniture, yacht club fees and vacations.

"He did the worst thing an elected official can do — he enriched himself through his position + violated the trust of those who put him there," US Attorney Carol Lam said in the statement.

The case began when authorities started investigating whether Cunningham + his wife, Nancy, used the proceeds from the $1,675,000 sale to defense contractor Mitchell Wade to buy a $2.55 million mansion in ritzy Rancho Santa Fe.

Wade put the Del Mar house back on the market + sold it after nearly a year for $975,000 — a loss of $700,000.

Cunningham is an eight-term congressman + former Vietnam War flying ace known on Capitol Hill for his interest in defense issues + his occasional temperamental outbursts

Cunningham has been under investigation since his sale of the home attracted the attention of federal authorities.

He drew little notice outside his San Diego-area district before the San Diego Union-Tribune reported 00.Jun.2005 that he'd sold the home to Wade.

The house sale was just one in a series of too-friendly deals for Cunningham.

Though he denied wrongdoing when he announced in 00.Jul.2005 that he wouldn't seek re-election, Cunningham himself acknowledged it didn't look good.

Cunningham's pleas came amid a series of Republican scandals.

Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas, had to step down as majority leader after a Texas prosecutor indicted him in a campaign finance case;

a stock sale by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., is being looked at by regulators; +

Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff was indicted in the CIA leak case.

In addition to buying Cunningham's home at an inflated price, Wade let him live rent-free on his yacht, the Duke Stir, at the Capital Yacht Club.

His firm, MZM Inc., donated generously to Cunningham's campaigns.

Around the same time, MZM was winning valuable defense contracts + Cunningham sits on the House Appropriations subcommittee that controls defense $$. 00.000.2004 t

he little-known company based in Washington, D.C., tripled its revenue + nearly quadrupled its staff, according to information posted on the company Web site before Wade stepped down as president +

the company was sold to a private equity firm.

An associate of Wade, Brent Wilkes, president of a Poway company called ADCS Inc., also gave Cunningham campaign cash + favors.

Wilkes reportedly flew Cunningham in a corporate jet to go hunting in Idaho + golfing in Hawaii +

a charitable foundation Wilkes started spent $36,000 hosting a black tie "Tribute to Heroes" gala 00.000.2002 that feted Cunningham with a trophy naming him a hero.

00.000.1990 -since the late s- ADCS, which specializes into turning paper records into digital files, has received tens of millions in Defense Department contracts.

In some years, lawmakers on Cunningham's spending panel added the money themselves, even scolding the Pentagon for not requesting it in the first place.

Unlike Wade + Wilkes, the third man federal investigators focused on,

Thomas Kontogiannis, apparently wasn't in the defense business.

Like them he had a mutually beneficial relationship with Cunningham.

00.000.2000 Cunningham wrote to prosecutors on behalf of Kontogiannis, a New York developer

00.000.2000 under investigation in a bribery + kickback scheme involving school computer contracts.

00.000.2002 -Two years later- Cunningham made $400,000 selling his 65-foot flat-bottom riverboat to Kontogiannis.

Also, a company run by Kontogiannis' nephew + daughter helped Cunningham finance a condominium in Alexandria, Va. +

Cunningham house in Rancho Santa Fe.

Kontogiannis ultimately pleaded guilty to fraud charges.

Kontogiannis told the San Diego Union-Tribune that Cunningham gave him advice on attorneys to contact to explore getting a presidential pardon.

25.Nov.2005 US ran Guantanamo-style prison in Kosovo By AFX News "Forbes"

PARIS (AFX) - The US military ran a Guantanamo Bay-type detention centre in Kosovo, a top Council of Europe official said.

The Council of Europe's Human rights commissioner Alvaro Gil-Robles said he had been 'shocked' by conditions at the barbed wire-rimmed centre inside a US military base, which he witnessed

00.000.2002 .

The camp resembled 'a smaller version of Guantanamo', he told France's Le Monde newspaper, referring to the US centre at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba,

where hundreds of terrorism suspects remain detained without trial.

Gil-Robles told the daily he had inspected the centre, located within the US military's Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo,

Gil-Robles said he had no evidence that Camp Bondsteel was linked to the alleged CIA operations.

'But I do believe that an explanation should be given for this base in Kosovo, as for other potentially suspect sites' in Europe, he told the paper.

Earlier this week the Council of Europe, which guarantees human rights in its 46 member states, launched an investigation into the alleged prisons.

The official leading the probe said Friday that Romania, which rights groups have labelled a likely site for one of the secret centres, was not hosting a large, Guantanamo-style jail.

Dick Marty told a press conference in Bucharest that he was 'convinced that there are no Guantanamos in Romania'.

Friends of terrorism Bush's decision to bring back Otto Reich exposes the hypocrisy of the war against terror

by Duncan Campbell

08.Feb.2002 The Guardian

His name may sound like that of a character from a Mel Brooks musical but Otto Reich is real enough.

He has just been appointed by President Bush as assistant secretary of state for western hemisphere affairs - +

both the manner of his appointment + the role he will now play have profound implications for a part of the world often disregarded since 11.Sep.2001 .

Over the last year President Bush has attempted to bring back into office people who

00.000.1980-00.000.1990 -s s in the 1980s +- were discredited during the US interventions in Central America

One such appointment was that of Elliott Abrams, who had two convictions 00.000.1991 for misleading Congress about the so-called Iran-contra affair.

00.000.1992 He was pardoned by President Bush's father +

03Dec.2005 -now- enjoys the title of head of the "office of democracy and human rights".

Another was John Negroponte, the former US ambassador to Honduras, who was accused by his predecessor of turning a blind eye to the atrocities committed there against leftists because it was felt necessary to remain on good terms with the Honduran government.

11.Sep.2001 -shortly after- Negroponte was quietly confirmed as US ambassador to the UN.

But the third appointment is by far the most controversial and potentially divisive.

Otto Reich is a rightwing Cuban American whose key policy objective is the overthrow of Fidel Castro's regime and whose support base is the Cuban-American community in Florida.

President Bush's brother, Jeb, is depending on this community's votes and backing as he runs for re-election as governor of the state later this year.

Otto Reich came to prominence during the Reagan administration when he was appointed head of the office of public diplomacy within the state department.

According to the national security archives, Reich used this role to pursue his own agenda to such an extent that

00.000.1987 the Comptroller-General of the US, a Republican appointee, found that some of the efforts of his office were "prohibited, covert propaganda activities ... beyond the range of acceptable agency public information activities".

30.Sep.1987 -A letter of- concluded that Reich's office had violated "a restriction on the state department's annual appropriations prohibiting the use of federal funds for publicity or propaganda purposes not authorised by Congress". He staffed his unit with CIA and Pentagon "psychological warfare" specialists and discredited journalists whose work the Reagan administration did not like. His office wrote bogus editorial pieces under the names of Nicaraguan contras and got them published in the mainstream media.

He reported directly to Oliver North.

Reich also served as US ambassador to Venezuela and was alleged to have used his influence to try and get a US visa for a convicted terrorist, Orlando Bosch, jailed in Venezuela

00.000.1976 for the bombing of a Cubana airliner with 73 people on board.

Bosch had already been convicted of a terrorist attack in Miami on a Polish merchant vessel bound for Cuba and jailed in the US.

According to US justice department records: "the files of the FBI and other government agencies contain a large quantity of documentary information which reflects that,

beginning in the early 1960s, Bosch held leadership positions in various anti-Castro terrorist organisations ... Bosch has personally advocated, encouraged, organised and participated in acts of terrorist violence in this country as well as various other countries."

00.000.1990 Bosch was granted a pardon by George Bush senior + is now in Florida, apparently untroubled by the current president's commitment to rooting out terrorism in all its forms.

Although many countries seek Bosch's extradition he remains free, protected by the same government that warns other countries that they are either for or against terrorism.

The Democrats on the Senate foreign relations committee had already made it clear that they would oppose Reich's appointment, not least because of the Bosch factor.

00.Jan.---- -at the beginning of- President Bush made a "recess appointment" , which meant that he could side-step the Senate confirmation and avoid the damaging questions which Reich would be asked. That a terrorist (by any definition of the word) such as Bosch should receive a blessing from the Bush family is revealing enough. That President Bush has decided to protect Reich from questioning on the subject by avoiding exposing him to the Senate foreign relations committee is just as disturbing. So what has Reich's relationship with Bosch actually been? Ann Louise Bardach, who knows as much about this area as any journalist in the US, writes about Reich in her forthcoming book, Cuba Confidential: "a half dozen declassified CIA and state department cables leave little doubt that Reich used his position to lobby for Orlando Bosch, a man who the Bush justice department had concluded had participated in more than 30 terrorist actions." When the Guardian reported the allegations about the Reich-Bosch connection last year, the US deputy secretary of state Richard Armitage wrote to deny the report, insisting Reich had advised that Bosch was ineligible. "It is unfair and destructive to the US democratic process that the president's nominees be pilloried," wrote Armitage. The letter must have made Reich chuckle since he himself was a master of the art of pillorying his opponents through the dishonest use of his office. But the whole point of the Senate hearings was that these cables and Reich's role in them would have been exposed. Reich has been extremely coy about his relationship with Bosch. In response to the Senate foreign relations committee's question, "Do you consider Orlando Bosch to be a terrorist?", Reich wrote: "I do not have sufficient knowledge of Mr Bosch's criminal activities to pass judgment on his legal status." This is impossible to believe. Reich later moved into the corporate lobbying business to work on behalf of Bacardi rum, which has paid him $600,000, according to the New York Times. Bacardi has an enormous financial stake in the overthrow of Castro, as it would allow them to take over their old distilleries. Although Reich is no longer employed by Bacardi, you do not have to be a cynic to see a dangerous conflict of interest. He also participated in drawing up the Helms-Burton legislation which has fiercely tightened the US embargo on Cuba, a mean-spirited operation that strips Cuba of copyright protection and is opposed by almost every other country in the world. The contra war which Reich so heartily endorsed was an attempt to overthrow a democratically elected government, often using attacks on civilian targets. The Bosch affair also highlights the strange double standards involved in condoning terrorism against Cubans while abhorring it elsewhere. The US has chosen to keep al-Qaida and Taliban prisoners in Cuba at their Guantanamo Bay base. So while men accused of terrorism are kept on land acquired in an old colonial war and held by force, a safe haven is given to a man happy to promote terrorism against Cuba. Colombia, Argentina and Peru are in crisis. There are plenty of qualified Latin American hands who could have filled Reich's post and helped build bridges. President Bush's choice is a sad echo of the shabby days that so discredited his father's and Ronald Reagan's administrations in their dealings with Latin America. Ahmed provides a background for our ongoing war against Afghanistan, a view that in no way coincides with what the administration has told us.

He has drawn on many sources, most tellingly on American whistleblowers who are beginning to come forth + bear witness -

- like those FBI agents who warned their supervisors that al-Qaeda was planning a kamikaze strike against New York + Washington

only to be told that if they went public with these warnings they would suffer under the National Security Act.

Several of these agents have engaged David P. Schippers,[4] chief investigative counsel for the US House Judiciary Committee, to represent them in court.

The majestic Schippers managed the successful impeachment of President Clinton in the House of Representatives.

He may, if the Iraqi war should go wrong, be obliged to perform the same high service for Bush,

who allowed the American people to go unwarned about an imminent attack upon two of our cities as pre-emption of a planned military strike by the US against the Taliban.

26.Sep.2001 The Guardian ([5]) reported that

00.Jul.2001 a group of interested parties met in a Berlin hotel to listen to a former State Department official, Lee Coldren,

00.Jul.2001 as Lee Coldren passed on a message from the Bush administration that

`the USA was so disgusted with the Taliban that they might be considering some military action . . .

the chilling quality of this private warning was that it came -

- according to one of those present, the Pakistani diplomat Niaz Naik

- accompanied by specific details of how Bush would succeed . . .'

00.Jul.2001 -Four days earlier-, the Guardian had reported that `Osama bin Laden + the Taliban received threats of possible American military action against them

two months before the terrorist assaults on New York + Washington . . .

[which] raises the possibility that bin Laden was launching a pre-emptive strike in response to what he saw as US threats.'

A replay of the `day of infamy' in the Pacific 62 years earlier?

Why the US needed a Eurasian adventure

09.Sep.2001 Bush was presented with a draft of a national security presidential directive outlining a global campaign of military, diplomatic + intelligence action targeting al-Qaeda, buttressed by the threat of war.

According to NBC News: `President Bush was expected to sign detailed plans for a worldwide war against al-Qaeda . . .

but did not have the chance before the terrorist attacks . . .

The directive, as described to NBC News, was essentially the same war plan as the one put into action 11.Sep.2001 -after-.

The administration most likely was able to respond so quickly . . . because it simply had to pull the plans "off the shelf".'

18.Sep.2001 -Finally, BBC News- : `Niak Naik, a former Pakistan foreign secretary, was told by senior American officials

00.Jul.2001 -in mid-July- that military action against Afghanistan would go ahead

00.Oct.2001 -by the middle of-.

It was Naik's view that Washington would not drop its war for Afghanistan even if bin Laden were to be surrendered immediately by the Taliban.'

Was Afghanistan then turned to rubble in order to avenge the 3,000 Americans slaughtered by Osama?

The administration is convinced that

Americans are so simple-minded that they can deal with no scenario more complex than the venerable lone, crazed killer (this time with zombie helpers)

who does evil just for the fun of it 'cause he hates us, 'cause we're rich 'n free 'n he's not.

Osama was chosen on aesthetic grounds to be the most frightening logo for USA long contemplated invasion + conquest of Afghanistan,

planning for which had been `contingency' some years before 11.Sep.2001 + -again,

from 20.Dec.2000 , when Clinton's out-going team devised a plan to strike at al-Qaeda in retaliation for the assault on the warship Cole.

Clinton's National Security Advisor, Sandy Berger, personally briefed his successor on the plan but

Rice, still very much in her role as director of Chevron-Texaco, with special duties regarding Pakistan + Uzbekistan, now denies any such briefing.

12.Aug.2002 -A year and a half later ()- fearless Time magazine reported this odd memory lapse.

We have only outdone the Romans in turning metaphors such as the war on terrorism, or poverty, or Aids into actual wars on targets we appear, often, to pick at random in order to maintain turbulence in foreign lands.

Osama, if it was he and not a nation, simply provided the necessary shock to put in train a war of conquest.

But conquest of what?

What is there in dismal dry sandy Afghanistan worth conquering?

Zbigniew Brzezinski tells us exactly what in a 00.000.1997 Council on Foreign Relations study called The Grand Chessboard:

American Primacy + its Geostrategic Imperatives.[6]

The Polish-born Brzezinski was the hawkish National Security Advisor to President Carter.

In The Grand Chessboard, Brzezinski gives a little history lesson.

`Ever since the continents started interacting politically, some 500 years ago, Eurasia has been the centre of world power.'

Eurasia is all the territory east of Germany.

This means Russia, the Middle East, China + parts of India.

Brzezinski acknowledges that Russia + China, bordering oil-rich central Asia, are the two main powers threatening US hegemony in that area.

He takes it for granted that the US must exert control over the former Soviet republics of Central Asia, known to those who love them as `the Stans':

Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikstan + Kyrgyzstan all `of importance from the standpoint of security + historical ambitions to at least three of their most immediate + most powerful neighbours -

- Russia, Turkey + Iran, with China signaling'.

Brzezinski notes how the world's energy consumption keeps increasing; hence, who controls Caspian oil/gas will control the world economy.

Brzezinski then, reflexively, goes into the standard American rationalization for empire.

We want nothing, ever, for ourselves, only to keep bad people from getting good things with which to hurt good people.

`It follows that America's primary interest is to help ensure that no single [other] power comes to control the geopolitical space + that the global community has unhindered financial + economic access to it.'

Brzezinski is quite aware that American leaders are wonderfully ignorant of history + geography so he really lays it on, stopping just short of invoking politically incorrect `manifest destiny'.

He reminds the Council just how big Eurasia is.

Seventy-five % of the world's population is Eurasian.

If I have done the sums right, that means that we've only got control, to date, of a mere 25 % of the world's folks.

`Eurasia accounts for 60- % of the world's GNP + three-fourths of the world's known energy resources.'

Brzezinski's master plan for `our' globe has obviously been accepted by the Cheney-Bush junta.

Corporate America, long over-excited by Eurasian mineral wealth, has been aboard from the beginning.

Ahmed sums up:

`Brzezinski clearly envisaged that the establishment, consolidation + expansion of US military hegemony over Eurasia through Central Asia would require the unprecedented, open-ended militarisation of foreign policy,

coupled with an unprecedented manufacture of domestic support + consensus on this militarisation campaign.'

Afghanistan is the gateway to all these riches.

Will we fight to seize them?

It should never be forgotten that the American people did not want to fight in either of the twentieth century's world wars,

but President Wilson maneuvered us into the First while President Roosevelt maneuvered the Japanese into striking the first blow at Pearl Harbor, causing us to enter the Second as the result of a massive external attack. 00.000.1997 Brzezinski understands all this + he is thinking ahead -

as well as backward.

`Moreover, as America becomes an increasingly multicultural society, it may find it more difficult to fashion a consensus on foreign policy issues,

except in the circumstance of a truly massive + widely perceived direct external threat.'

Thus was the symbolic gun produced that belched black smoke over Manhattan + the Pentagon.

Since the Iran-Iraq wars, Islam has been demonized as a Satanic terrorist cult that .."
