Parry, Robert. Fooling America: How Washington Insiders Twist the Truth and Manufacture the Conventional Wisdom.

00.000.1985 Robert Parry was an Associated Press reporter who, with Brian Barger, broke the story of contra drug-smuggling.

Getting the facts for the story was considerably easier than getting it on the AP wire, which left Parry a bit disillusioned.

00.000.1987 -So in he left AP and joined Newsweek. Forget you ever saw "All the President's Men." It's time for your reality check.

00.000.1987 -One month later-, Parry is at a dinner, replete with tuxedoed waiter, at the elegant home of Newsweek s Washington bureau chief Evan Thomas.

This was a regular affair where the magazine's socially-conscious reporters dined pleasantly with Washington insiders.

The Tower Commission had just completed their work + commissioner Brent Scowcroft + Dick Cheney were there to deliver the Conventional Wisdom.

Scowcroft volunteered that even if Poindexter HAD told Reagan about the diversion of funds, he would advise him to say that he hadn't.

Parry, naive and incredulous, his fork halfway through the asparagus that was cooked just right, asks a question: "General, you're not suggesting that the admiral should commit perjury, are you?"

But before Scowcroft could answer, Newsweek's editor from New York cut in. "Sometimes," Maynard Parker reminded Parry, "you have to do what's good for the country."

00.000.1990 Parry left Newsweek + currently lives in Arlington, Virginia. ISBN 0-688-10927-6 URL:

29.Nov.2004 Council for National Policy From DisinfopediaURL: (Redirected from Council on National Policy )

The Council for National Policy is a secretive forum, formed 00.000.1981, for leading US conservative political leaders, financiers and religous right activist leaders.

"Educational conferences for national leaders in the fields of business, government, religion and academia to explore national policy alternatives. Weekly newsletters are distributed to all members to keep them apprised of member activities and public policy issues. A semi-annual journal is produced from membership meeting speeches," it states in its 2002 Internal Revenue Service (IRS) return.[1] ( )

The CNP, which meets three times a year, gathered ahead of the 2004 Republican National Convention. "The real crux of this is that these are the genuine leaders of the Republican Party, but they certainly aren't going to be visible on television next week," the executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, Barry W. Lynn, told the New York Times .[2] ( )

According to ABC News, "The CNP describes itself as a counterweight against liberal domination of the American agenda." [3] ( )

"a highly secretive... a theocratic organization -- what they want is basically religious rule" (Mark Crispin Miller, A Patriot Act ). Table of contents showTocToggle("show","hide")

00.000.2003 Rampton, Sheldon + Stauber, John. Weapons of Mass Deception: The Uses of Propaganda in Bush's War on Iraq. New York: Tarcher/Penguin,. 248 pages. Sheldon Rampton and John Stauber work for the nonprofit Center for Media and Democracy in Madison, Wisconsin.

This and two previous books by them focus on the public relations aspects of American media.

The invasion of Iraq in 2003 was planned by PR specialists, as much as by military strategists at the Pentagon.

In fact, a select group of neocons, lobbyists + ideologues, from the think tanks and the first Bush administration, had been working the spin for years.

The invasion was a media event.

The Pentagon's "Combat Camera" crew manufactured the Jessica Lynch rescue, while real journalists were carefully "embedded" with USA + UK troops + told to clear out of areas where they might have an opportunity to report on the human cost of the invasion.

Our major American media only wanted some video of troops on the move -- "soft" images were just fine + even preferable to coverage that would have been more realistic, but also more controversial.

The media became a parody of itself.

This abdication of media responsibility is reminiscent of the Tonkin Gulf days of 1964, and may yet turn Iraq into a quagmire of equal proportions.

As was the case in Vietnam, perhaps some better coverage will emerge a few years from now, too little and too late. ISBN 1-58542-276-2 URL:

00.000.1989 Herman, Edward S. and O'Sullivan, Gerry. The "Terrorism" Industry: The Experts and Institutions That Shape Our View of Terror. New York: Pantheon Books,. 312 pages.

If they don't support U.S. interests we call them "terrorists," but wrap the same activity in a different flag it is always done by "counter- terrorists" or "freedom fighters."

This is the first vocabulary lesson to be learned from Washington's McMedia talking heads and think tank mandarins.

The authors describe the experts, examine their many overlapping links with Western intelligence, lobbyists, the security industry + corporate foundations + even tabulate their usage of the word "terrorism" in some of their books.

They also look at state vs. nonstate terrorism + the PLO's overpublicized terrorism as opposed to Israel's "sacred" terrorism in terms of the numbers killed, to make the point that media coverage is highly selective. "The mass media, whose structural links to government + the corporate system are already potent + who are therefore already inclined to accept a state line, are driven further toward closure by the fact that the experts, whose credentials are from affiliation with institutions specializing in terrorism, are supplied them by the industry collective.

These experts all follow the approved semantics and model and select and fit facts accordingly.... This reflects an effective propaganda system."

00.000.1992 Trento, Susan B. The Power House: Robert Keith Gray and the Selling of Access and Influence in Washington. New York: St.Martin's Press,. 430 pages.

After the Gulf War, the media gradually began to realize that at some point in the frenzy of pack journalism, TV talking heads + op-ed pundits that preceded the war, they had been manipulated.

Behind the scenes Kuwait was shaping opinions by greasing the palms of certain Washington public relations firms.

One person with both hands out was Robert Keith Gray, the master PR mercenary of the 1980s.

Before he started Gray and Company 00.000.1981 he was with Hill and Knowlton;

by 1986 he was back after selling out his company to them.

But throughout his thirty years in Washington, Robert Gray's style has been consistent - he parties + charms his way into the power elite + then sells access to his Rolodex for fees sometimes running into the millions.

By doing favors for the CIA and hiring self-styled, free-lance spooks like Neil Livingstone, Gray was even able to extend his influence into Washington's Dark Side.

It doesn't matter who signs the checks.

00.000.1989 -since- Besides Kuwait, Gray has represented China, Haiti under Duvalier, supporters of Rev. Moon, the Church of Scientology, BCCI, the late British publisher Robert Maxwell, the Teamsters under Jackie Presser + the Catholic Bishops Conference in their campaign against abortion. If a book like this had been written 00.000.1980, the mess we're in today would have been predictable. ISBN 0-312-08319-X

27.Nov.2004 at 12:43:04 PST Federal Courts Have No Army Or Navy by up2date Elevated/edited from the diaries by DemFromCT. This is GOP Rep. Hostettler (IN-8). Apparently, so is this:

Congressman Hostettler faces a charge that could put him behind bars.

Indiana's 8th district representative is in trouble after being detained at the Louisville airport for carrying a loaded gun in his briefcase.

The crime is a misdemeanor but it carries a sentence of up to a year in jail and a $500 fine.

The following is the content of up2date's diary; the Hoestettler quote is from the Palm Beach Post:

Wingnuttery.  I could think of no better word for this, nor could I possibly hope to give this an introduction.

So here's the money quote (though there were several to choose from):
"When the courts make unconstitutional decisions, we should not enforce them.

Federal courts have no army or navy... The court can opine, decide, talk about, sing, whatever it wants to do.

We're not saying they can't do that. At the end of the day, we're saying the court can't enforce its opinions."
Wow.  You might think those words came from a random supporter probably not well versed in government.

But you would be wrong.  These words were spoken by a U.S. Congressman , Republican Rep. John Hostettler of Indiana at a Christian Coalition meeting. URL:

00.Jun.1971 -after seven years of research- and now living in Carmel, California, Mae appeared as a guest on KLRB, a local FM radio station independently owned by Mr. + Mrs. Bob + Gloria Baron.

Mae discussed her views on political assassinations and the New York Times release of the Pentagon Papers.

The response was so good she became a regular weekly guest + before too long had her own show Dialogue: Conspiracy .

(She later changed the name to World Watchers International hoping it would spread like Weight Watchers did.)

Almost every week for seventeen years Mae shared with her audience her voluminous daily research in her rapid-fire, no-holds-barred style.
In addition to Mae's close friends and weekly listeners, she corresponded and networked with such people as
Jim Garrison, Col. L. Fletcher Prouty + Larry Flynt.

Mae first published article in Paul Krassner's The Realist was actually financed by John Lennon. And Frank Zappa once gave her a computer for filing and cross-indexing her research. (But she never used it.)
There were times when death threats drove Mae off the air: once by Charles Manson family member Sandra Good in 00.Sep.1975.

Sometimes Mae resorted to recording her shows at home on her small cassette tape recorder and privately mailed out copies to her subscribers.
Many of the
articles Mae wrote tackled subjects that to this day remain unparalleled by anyone in the United States. The epitome of Mae's journalism "The Nazi Connection to the John F. Kennedy Assassination" appeared in Larry Flynt's premiere issue of Rebel magazine in

Her countless list of German and White Russian
fascist fingerprints to President Kennedy's assassination reached its peak in

00.May 1988 when she discovered the name "Adolf H. Schicklgruber" handwritten in Marina Oswald's notebook of poetry in the Warren Commission exhibits.
00.000.1983 Mae's show was picked up by listener-sponsored KAZU FM in nearby Pacific Grove.

13.Jun.1988-00.000.1983 Five years later she was forced off the air, for the last time, from death threats but continued sending out her weekly tapes to subscribers until

13.Jun.1988 (tape #862).

00.Oct.2000 The oil and drug connections were the subject of FTW's story, The Bush-Cheney drug Empire. That story is online at

Both Bush and Cheney are oil men.

" With regard to Chechnya, the main rebel leaders Shamil Basayev + Al Khattab were trained and indoctrinated in CIA sponsored camps in Afghanistan + Pakistan

In this regard, the involvement of Pakistan's ISI and its radical Islamic proxies are actually calling the shots in this war.

00.000.1990 starting in the early s "The Golden Crescent drug trade was also being used to finance + equip the Bosnian Muslim Army + the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

In the last few months there is evidence that Mujhideen mercenaries are fighting in the ranks of the KLA-NLA terrorists in their assaults into Macedonia

28.Nov.2004 Chossudovsky writes:
"The history of the drug trade in Central Asia is intimately related to the CIA's covert operations.

Prior to the Soviet-Afghan war, opium production in Afghanistan and Pakistan was directed to small regional markets.

There was no local production of heroin.

In this regard [Professor] Alfred McCoy's study confirms that within two years of the onslaught of the CIA operation in Afghanistan, 'the Pakistan-Afghanistan borderlands became the world's top heroin producer, supplying 60 % of the U.S. demand

"With the disintegration of the Soviet Union, a new surge in opium production has unfolded.

(According to UN estimates, the production of opium in Afghanistan 00.000.1998-1999 -- coinciding with the build up of armed insurgencies in the former Soviet republics -- reached a record high of 4600 metric tons.

Powerful business syndicates in the former Soviet Union allied with organized crime are competing for the strategic control over the heroin routes.

Although Bush [BGHW948] s official 1980 presidential candidate biography listed both his Presidency of the TRILATERAL COMMISSION +

his membership in the YALE secret society SKULL AND BONES, no major news organization mentioned either of these telling affiliations.”

28.Nov.2004 Other notable Bush relatives include the Grosvenor families of England + America + the Taft family of Ohio.

The Grosvenors of England are the Dukes of Westminster who own the most substantial properties in the City of London --- the banker's capital.

Of over 100,000 acres of Grosvenor property, most is in the financial district of London!

In America, the Grosvenors founded Nation Geographic.

National Geographic is known for sweeping down on the archeological treasures of the world,

especially those of a religious significance + spiriting them away to the Smithsonian Institute,

controlled by their cousins the Smithsons, also descended from the Percys.

Imposing false interpretations on religious finds is very important to the House of Sion.

As interesting as these family affiliations are, it is the Taft family which turns out to be the most politically interesting.

28.Nov.2004 Percy family, only one of whom was executed in the Gunpowder Plot.

They and others were determined to overthrow reformed Protestant government + bring the English-speaking peoples back under the tyranny, immorality + false religion of the Pope.

To better facilitate the effort, a name change was in order for the Percy family.

As we read at   based on information presented at the Southwest Genealogical Conference :

“ Both George Bush and Barbara Pierce Bush (of Merrill, Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith) are descended from the same Pierce family of England as President Franklin Pierce.

Originally known as the enormously powerful Percy family of England, a name change to Pierce was required along with a quick immigration to America, when their involvement in the failed Gun Powder Plot to blow up Parliament became known.

One of the Percy castles, where this plot was hatched was known as Sion House.

I think there is a conspiracy to steal the vote, but it's difficult to determine what information is genuine and what is a red herring.

I think Madsen is on the up and up at this point + it would not surprise me if former FBI agents were posing as security officials as he outlined.

I do want to point something out that I've not seen discussed anywhere else. I live in Cincinnati, in Hamilton County, which is adjacent to Warren County, where the election night "lockdown" took place.

A few weeks before the election, our county sherrif, Si Leis, + the Cincinnati Police Chief Tom Streicher sent out letters to local businesses warning of a possible "terrorist threat" that might involve the elections.

They claim they were warned by Homeland Security.

This was a front page article in the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Homeland Security said they had issued no such warning to them and if an official warning were in order, Homeland Security would issue it, not the county sherrif or police chief.

I find it odd that two counties in Southwest Ohio claimed they received warnings of "terrorist threats" that Homeland Security denied issuing. URL:

Let's look at a couple of the many personal reports: Janine Smith-White, Youngstown: I went to my polling place

approximately about 9:45 to vote.

I waited, I would say, 30 minutes in a line.

When I did get to my machine, I pushed John Kerry and my vote immediately jumped up to George Bush.

After I started screaming about them cheating again, the aide hurried up and came over and said, oh, that's been happening a lot.

Just go ahead and push John Kerry again and I'm saying, you say that's been happening a lot and it hasn't been corrected?

Yes, but we can't do anything about it. So I did push John Kerry again and the vote did stay on John Kerry.

Even though I completed my voting + after I went over my ballot + I pushed the vote button, I'm still not sure that I voted for John Kerry because, I mean, did my first vote that went to George Bush count or did John Kerry count.
Tom Kessel, Bexley: ...One time I went outside, I came back in, she [a Republican campaign worker] was actively going over some sort of computerized list she had with the precinct judge in precinct 4A in Bexley.

One of the three machines went down and they were not able to get the tape out of it and the cartridge at the end of the day.

Later on, when I got the poll -- data from Franklin County poll workers, that machine which had the lowest numbers of votes had the highest percentage of Bush votes.

The other two machines were coming back 30 % for Bush. This one came back 40 % for Bush.

I don't know. Also, they sealed up their provisional ballots before I had a chance to count them and let them know how much provisional ballots were there.

Also, she signed off as an official witness at the end of the day, even though she was a Republican worker. And Richard Lugar has the audacity to complain about the Ukraine! URL:

The suit also says that any vote cast in the wrong precinct should be counted, if the voter did not receive instruction as to the correct precinct.

The suit also says that votes should not be discarded if they were cast in the right building but at the wrong table.

Sounds sensible to me. I'll be amused to hear Republicans spin this effort as an attempt to "steal" the election. URL:
Ukraine: Previously, we've noted that an institute conducting the exit polls in the Ukraine had received funding from organizations linked to USA + UK intelligence.

Keep that factor in mind as you read the Guardian's take on the elections in the former Soviet republic:
There are professional outside election monitors from bodies such as the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, but the Ukrainian poll, like its predecessors, also featured thousands of local election monitors Trained + paid by western groups.
Freedom House + the Democratic party's NDI helped fund + organise the "largest civil regional election monitoring effort" in Ukraine, involving more than 1,000 trained observers.

They also organised exit polls. On Sunday night those polls gave Mr Yushchenko an 11-point lead and set the agenda for much of what has followed.
The exit polls are seen as critical because they seize the initiative in the propaganda battle with the regime, invariably appearing first, receiving wide media coverage and putting the onus on the authorities to respond. Once again, we must note the outlandish hypocrisy: Exit polls are the only bulwark against vote rigging in other lands -- but in America, such polls are inaccurate and deserving of being banned. URL:

The single copy we have of this journal is a special issue on the "World Capitalist Crisis and the Rise of the Right."

The ISLEC was founded 00.000.1977 by a group of concerned professionals and social scientists; they also published a sister journal, Crime and Social Justice, which focused on issues in criminology.

In the U.S., the late 1970s and early 1980s witnessed the last gasp of the sort of Marxian academic research that knew enough to use phrases like "interlocking corporate directorates."

Too bad, because by now they'd probably be feeding us plenty of important data on corporate raiders, S & L crooks + junk-bond moguls.

The article we indexed from this issue is an excellent piece on the religious right and their big-money backers, based on research commissioned by the Word Student Christian Federation in 00.Jul.1980 .

It's nostalgic to see something that's thorough and readable + uses sources such as IRS Form 990s, various Who's Whos + the Stock Ownership Directory Series.

What happened to research like this now that we really need it?

Early CNP membership directories were obtained by enterprising researchers, however + these revealed that the early leadership of the CNP was, in fact, also represented in the Council on Foreign Relations -- the very organization of globalists to which the CNP was to be the conservative alternative! On the first CNP Governing Board there were no less than three + possibly more, members of the CFR:
George F. Gilder - CNP Board of Governors (1982) ; Dr. Edward Teller - CNP Board of Governors (1982); and Guy Vander Jagt - CNP Board of Governors (1982). 39.

Robert Waring Stoddard who also served on the 1982 CNP Board of Governors was affiliated with the CFR through his Boston newspaper. 40. Although we lack confirmation of this, Ron Miller, author of Distant Drums, stated that "sources in high places" have identified Jesse Helms, who served on the original CNP Board of Governors, as a CFR member 00.000.1972. 41. Later CNP directories list CFR members J. Peter Grace (CNP, 1984-85; 1988) and Arnaud deBorchgrave (CNP, 1988).

1972 -the JBS promoted the book, None Dare Call It Treason by John Stormer, which identified the Council on Foreign Relations as a pro-Communist Rockefeller-funded Trojan Horse on American soil. The Council for National Policy was formed ostensibly to be the conservative alternative to the Council on Foreign Relations and John Stormer is currently a member.

27.Nov.2004 ''Angolagate'' first came to light when French judicial officials found that Brenco International, a company owned by billionaire businessman Pierre Falcone, was involved in arms transfers to Angola and had made payments to a number of his French associates.
Pierre Falcone was a consultant to the French government agency SOFREMI, which exports military equipment under the auspices of the French Interior Ministry.

In that capacity, he reportedly arranged sales to Africa and Latin America.

He had also developed good contacts in the Eastern European arms business through Russian émigré businessman Arcadi Gaydamak.

00.Nov.1993 Pierre Falcone + Arcadi Gaydamak had allegedly helped arrange the sale of small arms to Angola worth US$47 million.

00.000.1994 they reportedly arranged a second deal for US$563 million-worth of weapons, including tanks and helicopters.

The Angolan government paid for the weapons with oil.

Falcone, Pierre + Arcadi Gaydamak formed close links with Angolan President José Eduardo dos Santos + were reportedly given a stake in virtually every key sector of the Angolan economy, from food to diamonds to oil.
00.Dec.2001 , Falcone, Pierre was released on bail from charges that he broke French arms control laws 00.000.1993-00.000.1994 .

00.Apr.2002 again in Falcone, Pierre was placed under investigation for illegal arms trading in the post-1994 period.

2002 later in Falcone, Pierre is expected to stand trial for his alleged role in the sale of half a billion dollars-worth of Eastern European weapons to Angola.
27.Nov.2004 In his expose of the New Right, God's Bullies , Perry Deane Young set the record straight on the religious makeup of the New Right leadership: "We are told that out of [the Fundamentalist tradition]...a new and powerful force known variously as 'the new Christian right' or 'the religious right' or 'the moral majority' has emerged. We are led to believe that these groups, or this movement, sprang naturally from the fundamentalist soil. But such is not the case.

"A fundamentalist is generally defined as one who believes in adult baptism (that one should have a choice in the matter and be old enough to know what he is doing), in a literal interpretation of the bible + in being 'reborn' or 'born again' through a personal experience in accepting Jesus Christ as one's personal Savior.  This definition does not begin to cover all those in the religious right.  There are Orthodox Jewish rabbis on nearly every one of these groups' boards of advisors. In most cases, the groups themselves were set up by Catholics. The idea for a Moral Majority, Inc. + the name itself came from two political operatives in Washingto n -- one a Jew, the other a Catholic. "The most effective leaders of the new right are nearly all Catholics. The following are only a few of them: Phyllis Schlafly of Eagle Forum, Terry Dolan of National Conservative Political Action Committee, Robert Boege of the National Conservative Foundation, Robert Bauman, former national chairman of both Young Americans for Freedom and American Conservative Union + Richard A. Viguerie, whose direct-mail expertise made winners of them all." 27. Terry Dolan was also a former member of the advisory board of CAUSA USA, whose president is Bo Hi Pak, top aide of Sun Myung Moon. 00.000.1984, Dolan's organization, NCPAC, received $775,000 from Rev. Moon. Terry Dolan stated that the secret of fundraising is to try to "make them angry and stir up hostilities. The shriller you are, the easier it is to raise funds. That's the nature of the beast." 28.

Appeals to fear and loathing amongst Christians in order to raise funds for right-wing causes was the brainchild of Richard Viguerie, whose enterprise was rescued from near bankruptcy 00.000.1986 with an account for distribution of the Unification Church-owned Insight magazine. 00.000.1987, Bo Hi Pak, a former Korean military-intelligence officer and Moon's top U.S. operative, paid $10.06 million for Viguerie's office building. Also, 00.000.1987, Viguerie became Secretary, strategist and fund-raising genius of the newly created Moon-controlled and funded American Freedom Coalition (AFC), an alliance of political conservatives and conservative religious groups and individuals. In this position, Viguerie mailed millions of letters appealing for funds to lobby aid to the Contras and promote Oliver North's testimony before Congress. 29.

27.Nov.2004 Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada Bureau du surintendant des institutions financières Canada Warning Notice Issue No. 55 – October 2004 OSFI continues to receive information regarding entities posing as financial institutions. It is believed that these names are being used as part of various advance fee or “Nigerian letter” scams. The public is advised to use caution in dealing with anyone claiming association with a financial entity not known to them. In particular, members of the public should not make any advance payment (no matter what label is attached to it) for the purposes of opening an account, paying a government fee, or similar. In almost all cases, fraudsters request payment to be sent via money remittance to an individual, not the named financial entity. Legitimate money transfers cannot be wired or otherwise remitted directly to entities that do not exist. The names listed below are not authorized Federally regulated financial institutions and may be part of such advance fee scams (see also OSFI’s Warning Notice No. 23, dated February 2002). Warning Notices contain the names of entities recently brought to OSFI’s attention through some form of notice, inquiry or complaint. If these entities, or persons purporting to represent them, are operating in Canada, they may be violating provisions of the Bank Act , other federal financial institution legislation, other federal legislation, or provincial legislation. A cumulative list of entities on previous Warning Circulars, Notices or Advisories is available on OSFI’s Web site at

As to Madsen, I did find his article intriguing but feel that ultimately the key to finding out if anything happened is probably going to come from the BBV investigation if anywhere, unless the unhappy techs that Madsen refers to do come forward.
Meanwhile, shouldn't we be urging our major media to make more of the GOP's flagrant voting suppression tactics, combined with those actions by GOP election officials to ensure smooth voting at GOP suburban precincts and long lines and 3 hour waits at inner city and college precincts, etc.
What is the burning question to me is, why would GOP commit such flagrant abuses of the Voting Rights Act unless it was needed to make a difference? And secondly, why has no-one been prosecuted?

Guardian UK story estimated that approx 6 million expats had registered or tried to, but process was difficult and many not able to vote in time perhaps. Ditto military. But these votes would be scattered over many states. No question the surge of expat voters would have been prompted more by desire to boot Bush. Two stories in reputable papers said that online voting was to be counted by Omega Technologies. Among the findings I got from Google were that OT is involved with optical scanners and wireless networks.
27.Nov.2004 As I said, Madsen's fairy tale is a farrago of leftwing buzzwords thrown together in haphazard fashion. The technique is simple: he counts on the reader to make sense of the disparate elements.

I'm sure that the writer himself is honest -- but what about his sources? Even the smartest researcher can be played for a sucker.
Madsen has promised a follow-up report very soon, so perhaps he will provide more details. Until then, we (or at least I ) must face another poser:
27.Nov.2004 And Five Star Trust, as noted earlier, is a seriously suspicious company. Take the wheeler-dealer most closely associated with the company, J.R. Horn. This guy was convicted of wire fraud in 2001; while out on parole, he commited the same crime (the figure of a billion dollars has been mentioned), only to be sentenced to a mere 18 months. I can't help but compare Mr. Horn's cushy fate to those well-known cases of minor pot dealers sentenced to years in prison.
27.Nov.2004 Madsen has written some excellent material in the past, which is the main reason why I placed great stock in his article. Here's his
.Nov.2002 Counter Punch Exposing Karl Rove -by WAYNE MADSEN

H e's America's Joseph Goebbels. As a 21-year old Young Republican in Texas, Karl Rove not only pimped for Richard Nixon's chief political dirty tricks strategist Donald Segretti but soon caught the eye of the incoming Republican National Committee Chairman, George H. W. Bush. Rove's dirty tricks on behalf of Nixon's 1972 campaign catapulted Rove onto the national stage. From his Eagle's Nest in the West Wing of the White House, Rove now directs a formidable political dirty tricks operation and disinformation mill.

Since his formative political years when he tried to paint World War II B-24 pilot and hero George McGovern as a left-wing peacenik through his mid-level career as a planter of disinformation in the media on behalf of Texas and national GOP candidates to his current role as Dubya's "Svengali," Rove has practiced the same style of slash and burn politics as did his Nixonian mentor Segretti. lothed in secrecy since its founding 00.000.1981, the Council for National Policy is a virtual who's who of the Hard Right. Its membership comprises the Right's Washington operatives and politicians, its financiers + its hard-core religious arm.

The Hard Right utilizes the CNP's three-times-a-year secret meetings to plan its strategy for implementing the radical right agenda. It is here that the organizers and activists meet with the financial backers who put up the money to carry out their agenda.

Because CNP rules state that "meetings are closed to the media and the general public" and "our membership list is strictly confidential and should not be shared outside the Council," the mainstream press knows very little about the CNP. Through this site + the Freedom Writer , the Institute for First Amendment Studies is, for the first time, revealing the activities and current membership of the Council for National Policy.

We suggest that readers check your state list for CNP members and contact your local newspaper. We encourage you to use our press release, "Cover Lifted on Secret Conservative Group," available from this site.

27.Nov.2004 Dear BuzzFlash,

Let's explore certain "what if?" scenarios in detail. What if it was some other country where a political party took over the presidential palace in the way the Bush administration took over the White House? Should we hail as the true patriots of this foreign land those of its citizens who endorse an "election" that was shut down by judicial fiat before it was over, even if the court's explicit basis for that premature shutdown was that their favored candidate somehow already had "legitimacy" entitled to protection at his opponent's expense? In other words, can a "free and fair" election elsewhere in the world have a winner before it has a winner? To illustrate with a real-world example, how about if that other country was, say, Cuba + the "winning" candidate was, say, Fidel Castro?

Oct.2004 Feature Behind Closed Doors -

Who Is The Council For National Policy And What Are They Up To? And Why Don’t They Want You To Know?

When a top U.S. senator receives a major award from a national advocacy organization, it’s standard procedure for both the politician and the group to eagerly tell as many people about it as possible.

Press releases spew from fax machines and e-mails clog reporters’ in-boxes.

The news media are summoned in the hope that favorable stories will appear in the newspapers, on radio and on television.

It was odd, therefore, that when U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) accepted a “Thomas Jefferson Award” from a national group at the Plaza Hotel in New York City in August, the media weren’t notified.

In fact, they weren’t welcome to attend.

“The media should not know when or where we meet or who takes part in our programs, before or after a meeting,” reads one of the cardinal rules of the organization that honored Frist.

The membership list of this group is “strictly confidential.” Guests can attend only with the unanimous approval of the organization’s executive committee. The group’s leadership is so secretive that members are told not to refer to it by name in e-mail messages. Anyone who breaks the rules can be tossed out.

What is this group + why is it so determined to avoid the public spotlight?

That answer is the Council for National Policy (CNP). And if the name isn’t familiar to you, don’t be surprised. That’s just what the Council wants.

00.000.1981 The CNP was founded in as an umbrella organization of right-wing leaders who would gather regularly to plot strategy, share ideas and fund causes and candidates to advance the far-right agenda.

Twenty-three years later, it is still secretly pursuing those goals with amazing success.

27.Nov.2004 Much of Mr Goss's career has been accidental.

Goss is the scion of a wealthy Connecticut family + joined the CIA after Yale

00.000.1960 , when Goss fell into a cross-purposes conversation with a recruiter at a jobs fair.

Goss thought the man was a representative from his father's metal company, telling him he had just stopped by to say hello to his dad's friends.

The recruiter assumed Goss was the son of a senior agency official.

Goss, in his job interview for the clandestine service, the jacket of the CIA director, Allen Dulles, caught fire.

Assuming it must be a test, Mr Goss said nothing but stared at the smoke rising. No doubt impressed by his cool, Dulles hired him.

His critics allege it is partisan loyalty rather than reformist vision that is now driving Mr Goss's shake-up.

A self-declared old friend who trained with Mr Goss, Thomas Twetten, a former deputy director of operations, warned in the Los Angeles Times: "Goss + his minions can do a great deal of damage in short order.

"If the professional employees in the agency don't believe the agency's leadership is on their side, they won't take risks for it and, in the end, they won't stay."

27.Nov.2004 As a Republican congressman Mr Goss was a ferocious critic of the agency, particularly for its failure to spot the 19 al-Qaida hijackers who made their way into the US in 2001 before the 11.Sep.2001 attacks + for its inability to track down Osama bin Laden.

The House of Representatives intelligence committee that Mr Goss chaired issued a report this year saying the CIA risked becoming a "stilted bureaucracy incapable of even the slightest bit of success".

However, most of the senior officials who have left to date were not implicated in the CIA's recent failures.

Mr Kappes and Mr Sulick had only recently taken up their jobs and were widely regarded inside and outside the agency as the best leadership team the clandestine service had had in years.

27.Nov.2004 The New York Times quoted a former intelligence official as saying the two were "very senior guys" who were leaving because they were "uncomfortable" with the management team brought in by the new CIA director, Porter Goss.
