20.Nov.2004 It is useful to examine some of the unexplained or poorly explained observations in astronomy + astrophysics that could bear witness to many galaxies being at a KT-III level.

The Missing Mass.

~80-90% of the mass of nearby galaxies is considered "missing"

because the number of observable stars does not correspond to the rotation curves of the galaxies. [See Dark Matter essay by Joe Silk] URL: https://www.aeiveos.com/~bradbury/MatrioshkaBrains/MatrioshkaBrainsPaper.html#Evidence

URL: https://www.aeiveos.com/~bradbury/MatrioshkaBrains/MatrioshkaBrainsPaper.html#FootNote1 Footnotes -

A Matrioshka Brain is a term invented by the author to more accurately describe an optimal computing architecture for megascale structures that use stars as power sources.

Earlier papers + discussions have referred to megascale thought machines as "superintelligences" or "Jupiter Brains".

The term "Jupiter Brains" creates the impression of a semi-solid brain the size of Jupiter.

There are a number of problems with this image.

First, such a structure cannot consume stellar power outputs without melting.

Second, a computer with this architecture would consume a significant fraction of its energy budget circulating cooling fluids.

Finally, if collections of such structures were arrayed around a star, they would have to resolve the problem of not radiating heat onto each other (acerbating the already difficult problem of staying cool).

The term "matrioshka" is derived from the nesting wooden dolls (Matryoshkas), found in Russia +

is intended to bring to mind the nested shells of "computronium" from which a Matrioshka Brain is constructed.

An expanded discussion of the harvesting of the entire power output of a star may be found in the Planetary Disassembly discussion.

Though not discussed here, there appear to be MB designs that would allow sunlight to continue to reach the Earth.

The most obvious would be to place all construction outside of Earth's orbit.

Other designs could contain orbital "holes" synchronized with the Earth's orbit or collectors that reorient themselves so as to minimize light interception when between they pass between the sun + the Earth.

Most people have a difficult time believing the growth rates allowed by self-replicating, self-assembling machines.

Bacteria have an optimal replication time of 20 minutes +

supplied with sufficient energy + nutrients a single bacteria could grow into an Earth equivalent mass in less than 2 days.

Drexler [Nanosystems, 1992] estimates the doubling time for general purpose assemblers at 1-3 hours.

Hall [1999] + Freitas [1999] have proposed that special purpose assembly line arrangements would have much faster production times.

20.Nov.2004 Exit poll data will be delayed By Mark Memmott, USA TODAY

On future election days, news organizations that pay for surveys of voters leaving polling places won't see results until late afternoon or early evening.

The goal is to avoid a repeat of what happened this Election Day, when leaked information from exit polls was posted by Internet commentators known as bloggers about 1 p.m. ET.

That was just minutes after the data had been given to the five television networks that, along with the Associated Press, formed a consortium to pay for exit polls and count votes during major elections.

Sheldon Gawiser, chairman of the polling consortium's steering committee + NBC's director of elections, said Wednesday that

in future elections, no data will be sent to the networks + AP until at least 4 p.m. ET.

The "first wave" of data that bloggers posted this year, he said,

was just too raw to be valuable to "people who don't know what they're dealing with."

The data were supposed to be kept confidential + only used to help the networks plan their election night broadcasts.

The early polls showed Sen. John Kerry leading President Bush in the race for the White House + in key states such as Florida + Ohio.

By shortly after 3 p.m. ET, some television commentators were hinting that Kerry appeared likely to win.

After polls closed across the nation + real votes were counted, it became clear Kerry had lost the race.

Kerry got 48% of the vote nationally.

Bush got 51%.

Gawiser said the consortium is continuing to review how future exit polls can be made more accurate.

The networks had hoped to avoid any controversy involving exit polls.

They were still stinging from what happened in 2000.

Then, flawed exit polling in Florida contributed to the mistaken "calls" giving that key state to Vice President Gore + then to Bush.

This year, the leaking of the early exit poll data and the subtle use of it to hint at a possible Kerry victory caused the networks + the pollsters they hired to do the work some embarrassment.

The polling firms — Edison Media Research + Mitofsky International — + the networks said critics didn't understand that early day exit polling often produces results much different from final vote tallies.

This year, some pollsters theorize, Kerry's supporters may have been more eager to get to their polling places early.

Mark Blumenthal, a pollster who caught attention this year for his Web site, mysterypollster.com, said the delayed release of the exit poll data means "better numbers" that will still be "leaked immediately."

Matrioshka Brains by Robert J. Bradbury

URL: https://www.aeiveos.com/~bradbury/MatrioshkaBrains/MatrioshkaBrains.html
21.Jul.1999 Created; Derived from a
discussion of Jupiter Brains created ~ 00.Nov.1997
Abstract Predictable improvements in lithographic methods foretell continued increases in computer processing power.

Economic growth and engineering evolution continue to increase the size of objects which can be manufactured and power that can be controlled by humans.

Neuroscience is gradually dissecting the components and functions of the structures in the brain.

Advances in computer science and programming methodologies are increasingly able to emulate aspects of human intelligence.

Continued progress in these areas leads to a convergence which results in megascale superintelligent thought machines.

These machines, referred to as Matrioshka Brains, consume the entire power output of stars (~10 26 W),

consume all of the useful construction material of a solar system (~10 26 kg),

have thought capacities limited by the physics of the universe and are essentially immortal.

A common practice encountered in literature discussing the search for extraterrestrial life is the perspective of assuming and applying human characteristics and interests to alien species.

Authors limit themselves by assuming the technologies available to aliens are substantially similar or only somewhat greater than those we currently possess.

These mistakes bias their conclusions, preventing us from recognizing signs of alien intelligence when we see it.

They also misdirect our efforts in searching for such intelligence.

We should start with the laws on which our particular universe operates and the limits they impose on us.

Projections should be made to determine the rate at which intelligent civilizations, such as ours, approach the limits imposed by these laws.

Using these time horizons, laws and limits, we may be better able to construct an image of what alien intelligence may be like and how we ourselves may evolve.

Kerry, man, what happened?

What happened to the promised armies of lawyers, planes waiting to take them where they’re most needed, etc. etc.?
Tens of thousands of wrongly purged voters;

60,000 absentee ballots not mailed just from Broward County alone;

hours-long lines in Ohio;

voting machines in Florida and Texas telling people they’d voted for Bush when they hadn’t;

hackable electronic-voting machines providing no paper trail or way to verify your vote, built by Republican donors who won’t reveal their code;

exit polls suspiciously different from election totals. And the list goes on and on and on. ...more URL: https://www.kathymcmahon.utvinternet.com/mrn/Copulation-Control-2004.htm

Whether it was caused by cluelessness or criminal minds, Broward needs the truth. And it's going to take more than a Jeb Bush brushoff to get it.

South Florida opponents of slot machines have filed a lawsuit seeking a recount of 78,000 absentee ballots cast in Broward County on Amendment 4 in the 02.Nov.2004 election.

About 94% % of the new votes turned out to be "yes" + 6 % "no."

20.Nov.2004 "SPEAKOUT" AGAINST VOTE FRAUD AND UNVERIFIED VOTING. It's easy & we need YOU all. Here's how

ACTION STEP #1: We would like you to attend a MoveOn party, this Sunday afternoon (about 3:30 - 5:30pm west coast time). You can host a party or find one near you here:
https://action.moveonpac.org/future/
(In some locales existing parties may already be full, if so please consider hosting one -- it's easy!)

At the meeting, please propose that MoveOn members at the party support a long weekend of media action,

THIS COMING Thanksgiving weekend, Friday 26.Nov.2004 + Saturday 27.Nov.2004 + Sunday 28.Nov.2004

As you are aware, the media has been accused of having a blackout on voting irregularities
being investigated in Ohio and Florida + has published few reports of ongoing investigations,
or reports of voter intimidation or disenfranchisement.
The mainstream media's apparent lack of concern for unverified voting systems in
Florida + the disturbing reports from Ohio of voter disenfranchisement/vote suppression are calling into question not just the results of the election but

whether our democracy can ever recover when voting systems are not verifiable + the media is disinterested, at best.

We strongly feel that there is VERY LITTLE TIME to publicize
and implement any movement for national voting reform.

Thus the urgency. (please consider forwarding this message widely, and right away!!)

20.Nov.2004 & co. battled over crucial elections records dumped in the trash.

When they compared the discarded, signed, original tapes with the recent printouts submitted to the state and used to tabulate the Florida election winners, Harris says a disturbing pattern emerged.

"The difference was hundreds of votes in each of the different places we examined," said Bev, "and most of those were in minority areas."

When I asked Bev if the errors they were finding in precinct after precinct were random, as one would expect from technical, clerical, or computer errors, she became uncomfortable.

"You have to understand that we are non-partisan," she said. "We're not trying to change the outcome of an election, just to find out if there was any voting fraud."

That said, Bev added: "The pattern was very clear.

The anomalies favored George W. Bush. Every single time."

Of course finding possible voting "anomalies" in one Florida county doesn't mean they'll show up in all counties.

It's even conceivable there are innocent explanations for both the mismatched counts and trashed original records;

this story undoubtedly will continue to play out.

And, unless further investigation demonstrates a pervasive and statewide trend toward "anomalous" election results in many of Florida's counties,

odds are none of this will change the outcome of the election (which exit polls showed John Kerry winning in Florida).

Nonetheless, Bev and her merry band are off to hit another county.

As she told me on her cell phone while driving toward their next destination,

"We just put Volusia County + their lawyers on notice that they need to continue to keep a number of documents under seal, including all of the memory cards to the ballot boxes + all of the signed poll tapes."

Why?

"Simple," she said. "Because we found anomalies indicative of fraud."

This Just In: Bush got extra votes in Florida? by c-macdonald 3:40am.

UC Berkeley: Bush May have gotten 130,000 to 200,000 extra votes in Florida

This isn't some random professor either - this is the UC Berkeley
Survey Research Center and they've been studying election fraud + voting irregularities since at least 2000.

Press conference tomorrow at 10:00 am PST to announce their findings.

19.Nov.2004 So where are the strong? And who are the trusted?

Thursday was the first full day that I had a counter installed on this website. -- > Go to https://rottendenmark.blogspot.com/ for more info. --> 2004 Election

Close to 10,000 hits in one day, close to 6,000 unique visitors.

Not bad for a weblog begun less than 14 days ago.

Thank you for coming to this site; more importantly, thank you for leaving this site and taking with you information to share, pass on + spread to others.
Spreading the word is essential -- I ran into a friend tonight at the Wilco concert who was following politics like a crazy man these last few months.

Yet he had absolutely no idea that a recount was going on in Ohio, and hadn't heard about the Berkeley report. Looking through the most prominent blogs and newspapers, I don't blame him.

How would he have known?
There's no piece yet in the New York Times about the Hout report.

Google News shows that the report has received coverage in the San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today, the St. Louis Post Dispatch, while Newsday, Boston Herald (which both ran the AP story), the News + Observer of NC, + the San Francisco Examiner carried the AP story.

This is a start. This is not enough.
The leading survey center of the country's top public university just released a report saying that the President probably received at least 130,000 excess votes in Florida.

Let me put it this way: 130,000 is 3% of 3,500,000, the approximate entire popular vote margin by which Bush beat Kerry.

And that's what this report says is the minimum number of excess votes.
Meanwhile, there is still no explanation for the irregularities in Ohio. But there will be a recount.
In the meantime, if you want a good laugh, then please,
read this.

"How Ohio pulled it off," indeed. We are fans here, of course, of Mr. Shakespeare + we think that Mr. Blackwell's op-ed piece smacks of "me think the lady doth protest too much."
Posting will be spotty this weekend, all depending on my wi-fi access in New York.

I'll be back from NYC by early Monday. We will hopefully have more news about New Hampshire and Ohio -- and more coverage about the Berkeley/Hout report.
Have a great weekend, everyone. Continue to spread the word.
Tonight, at the Wilco show at the Wiltern Theater here in Los Angeles, a highlight was when the band played "California Stars," a favorite song of mine, one that would make a fine wedding song.

The music was written by Wilco and Billy Bragg, but the lyrics were written by Woody Guthrie + never put to music until the Mermaid Avenue album of a few years back.
As the band played the song, I remembered how Woody Guthrie, of course, used to play an acoustic guitar which had, painted on the side, This Machine Kills Fascists.
And so, I like to think, can this machine, too.

18.Nov.2004 A call to action

1. John Kerry should make a public statement .

Not David Wade.

Not Stephanie Cutter.

Not Tad Devine.

John Kerry.

It should be simple.

It should just be, "We are committed to every vote being counted in this election."

That is very different than the "It's time to move on from the election results" line that Donna Brazille etc. are taking.
It's fine to leave everything else to surrogates. I understand why that has to be.

Let other people say that concession speeches are political speeches, not legal statements.

Let others point out and itinerize the list of troubling developments in Ohio, Florida + elsewhere.
But John Kerry should make a statement that he is committed to making sure that every vote was counted.

Everywhere.

And that he is troubled -- no, concerned, concerned is better -- concerned by reports that not every vote has been counted.

Period.

Done.

Thank you.
It would be a tacit statement of support for the Ohio and New Hampshire recount efforts, for the exploration of what the Hout Report means;

and for all the people who voted for John Kerry -- or, for that matter, George W. Bush -- to have the confidence in the security and sanctity of the election of 02.Nov.2004 .
2.
The Hout Report changes a great deal of the landscape.

It is a credible, extensive survey by people who do such surveys and statistical analysis for a living.
It should be covered by the mainstream media. And not just Keith Olbermann.

This is not a part of this story that should be merely existing on the far left.
But -- as we've seen with RatherGate, as we've seen with the Trent Lott story -- the blogosphere can perform an important function here.

Important function? Essential function. URL: https://rottendenmark.blogspot.com/

Call attention to the Berkeley SRC report. Even the fact that it's out there and online and available to be read is big information to pass on.
If you print it, no doubt, the others will follow.
If you build it, they will come.

11.Sep.2001 THE TRUTH BEHIND by Michel Chossudovsky

In this timely study, Michel Chossudovsky blows away the smokescreen, put up by the mainstream media, that 11.Sep.2001 was an "intelligence failure".

Through meticulous research, the author uncovers a military-intelligence ploy behind the 11.Sep.2001 attacks + the coverup + complicity of key members of the Bush Administration.

According to Chossudovsky, the so-called "war on terrorism" is a complete fabrication based on the illusion that

one man, Osama bin Laden,

outwitted the $30 billion-a-year American intelligence apparatus.

The "war on terrorism" is a war of conquest. Globalisation is the final march to the "New World Order", dominated by Wall Street + the U.S. military-industrial complex.

11.Sep.2001 was the moment the Bush Administration had been waiting for,

the so-called "useful crisis" which provided a pretext for waging a war without borders.

The hidden agenda consists in extending the frontiers of the American Empire right around the world to facilitate complete U.S. corporate control outside the U.S. + a police state on the inside.

Chossudovsky peels back the layers of rhetoric to reveal a huge hoax —

a complex web of deceit aimed at tricking the American people + the rest of the world

into accepting a military solution which threatens the future of humanity.

20.Nov.2004 Often the CNN report is based on information published on an Islamic website or a mysterious Video or Audio tape.

The authenticity of the website and/or the tapes is not the object of discussion or detailed investigation.

Bear in mind that the news reports never mention that Al Qaeda is a creation of the CIA + that Al Zarqawi had been recruited to fight in the Soviet-Afghan war

(This is in fact confirmed by Sec. Colin Powell in his presentation to the UN Security Council on 05.Feb.2003 ) (see details below).

Both Osama bin Laden + Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi are creations of the US intelligence apparatus.

The recruitment of foreign fighters was under the auspices of the CIA.

The press usually present the terrorist warnings emanating from the CIA as genuine,

without acknowledging the fact that US intelligence, has provided covert support to the Islamic militant network consistently for more than 20 years.

Amply documented, the training camps in Afghanistan established during the Reagan Administration had been set up with the support of the CIA.

In fact, several members of the current Bush administration including Armitage, Richard + Powell, Colin

were directly involved in channeling support to Al Qaeda in Afghanistan,

where bin Laden + Al Zarqawi received specialized training. (See Michel Chossudovsky,  https://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/CHO109C.html and https://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/CHO303D.html ) https://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/CHO405B.html
20.Nov.2004 Consistent Pattern

What is the role of this new mastermind in the Pentagon's disinformation campaign, in which CNN seems to be playing a central role?

In previous propaganda ploys, the CIA hired PRopaganda firms to organize core disinformation campaign s, including the Rendon Group.

The latter worked closely with its British partner Hill and Knowlton, which was responsible for the

00.000.1990 Kuwaiti incubator media scam, where Kuwaiti babies were allegedly removed from incubators in a totally fabricated news story, which was then used to get Congressional approval for the 1991 Gulf War.

What is the pattern? https://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/CHO405B.html
20.Nov.2004 Al-Zarqawi's profile "is mounting a challenge to bin Laden's leadership of the global jihad."

In Iraq, Al-Zarqawi is said to be determined to "ignite a civil war between Sunnis and Shiites".

But is that not precisely what US intelligence is aiming at ( "divide and rule") as confirmed by several analysts of the US led war?

Pitting one group against the other with a view to weakening the resistance movement. (See Michel Collon,  https://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/COL312A.html , See also https://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/RAD308A.html )

The CIA, with its $30 billion plus budget, pleads ignorance: they say they know nothing about Al-Zarqawi , they have a photograph, but, according to the Weekly Standard ( 24.May 2004 ), they apparently do not know his weight or height.

There is an aura of mystery surrounding this individual which is part of the propaganda ploy.

Zarqawi is described as "so secretive even some operatives who work with him do not know his identity." https://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/CHO405B.html

Who is Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi? by Michel Chossudovsky
XYZ index-45.htm">www.globalresearch.ca

The URL of this article is: https://globalresearch.ca/articles/CHO405B.html

The US intelligence apparatus has created it own terrorist organizations.

And at the same time, The US intelligence apparatus creates its own terrorist warnings concerning the terrorist organizations which it has itself created.

In turn, The US intelligence apparatus has developed a cohesive multibillion dollar counterterrorism program "to go after" these terrorist organizations.

Counterterrorism + war propaganda  are intertwined.

The propaganda apparatus feeds disinformation into the news chain.

The terror warnings must appear to be "genuine".

The objective is to present the terror groups as "enemies of America."

The underlying objective is to galvanize public opinion in support of America's war agenda.

The "war on terrorism" requires a humanitarian mandate.

The war on terrorism is presented as a "Just War", which is to be fought on moral grounds "to redress a wrong suffered."

The Just War theory defines "good" and "evil."

It concretely portrays and personifies the terrorist leaders as "evil individuals".

Several prominent American intellectuals + antiwar activists, who stand firmly opposed to the Bush administration, are nonetheless supporters of the Just War theory:

"We are against war in all its forms but we support the campaign against international terrorism."

To reach its foreign policy objectives, the images of terrorism must remain vivid in the minds of the citizens, who are constantly reminded of the terrorist threat.

The propaganda campaign presents the portraits of the leaders behind the terror network.

In other words, at the level of what constitutes an  "advertising"  campaign, "it gives a face to terror."

The "war on terrorism" rests on the creation of one or more evil bogeymen, the terror leaders, Osama bin Laden, Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi, et al,

whose names + photos are presented ad nauseam in daily news reports. https://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/CHO405B.html

For war – that human weakness created by warmongering leaders that send to battle the mostly young, ignorant, easily manipulated, testosterone-filled members of the lower castes of any one tribe – unleashes in human beings a most vicious animal from the deepest reaches of our psyches.

The primordial necessity to kill, the hunger to maim + rape, the desire to inflict pain + suffering is therefore reborn, free to act indiscriminately, away from the menacing glow of the rule of law + the watchful eye of humanity. Continued

20.Nov.2004 + today the New York Times continues its series of "Making Vote Counts" editorials with a pretty solid stance on the necessity of journalistic + governmental proof that the elections weren't tampered with. ... I suspect the

20.Nov.2004 Olbermann asked Newsweek senior editor and columnist Jonathan Alter, "why has the cascade of irregularities around this country occurred virtually in a news blackout?" Alter responded by saying that "I'm not justifying this, but by way of explanation, I think it is that there's no sense that, with a three-and-a-half-million vote difference [between President George W. Bush and Senator John Kerry], that this would affect the outcome, even if there were widespread irregularities found."

11.Nov.2004 edition of Countdown , Congressional Quarterly columnist + MSNBC political analyst Craig Crawford offered another perspective: "The glib answer, which is part of the truth, is I think everybody was tired after that election. ... [W]e're often wimps in the media. And we wait for other people to make charges, one political party or another + then we investigate it."

20.Nov.2004 Conservatives rail against MSNBC's Olbermann for reporting election irregularities

Media conservatives have labeled MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann a "voice of paranoia" + accused him of perpetuating "idiotic conspiracy theories" for his sustained spotlight on the numerous local news reports of voting irregularities during the 02.Nov.2004 presidential election.

Olbermann's emphasis during Countdown with Keith Olbermann on voting irregularities has been part of a critique of what he has called the "Rube Goldberg voting process of ours" -

as well as a criticism of the major media outlets' failure to report on the irregularities.

11.Nov.2004 In her nationally syndicated column, right-wing pundit Ann Coulter falsely asserted that Olbermann has been "peddling the theory that Bush stole the election" + referred to "Olbermann's idiotic conspiracy theory."

14.Nov.2004 A column by associate editor Bill Steigerwald in the conservative Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (owned by right-wing financier Richard Mellon Scaife) claimed Olbermann "really made a Dan Rather of himself" by focusing a segment of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann on allegations of voter fraud. +

10.Nov.2004 in his "Inside Politics" column, Washington Times columnist Greg Pierce quoted the conservative Media Research Center's analysis of Olbermann's coverage:

"With 'Did Your Vote Count? The Plot Thickens' as his on-screen header, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann on Monday night led his 'Countdown' program with more than 15 straight minutes of paranoid + meaningless claims about voting irregularities in states won by President Bush," the Media Research Center reports at www.mediaresearch.org .

But Olbermann has not suggested that the election was stolen. Discussing the possible causes of the bevy of reported voting irregularities from around the country, Olbermann offered this analysis on the 10.Nov.2004 edition of Countdown :

There are really only three possible explanations for all of this :

The first is hoped for virtually unanimously by supporters of every candidate and every party -- namely, that all those elected last Tuesday got in because that's the way the people voted.

The second is that some of them got in through manipulation of a series of insufficiently sophisticated, insufficiently secure computer voting machines that might be hacked into by the nearest 9-year-old.

But the third possibility is actually more heart-stopping still, one that threatens the democracy in the way 100 terrorist rings could not - that the president or the District 90 dog catcher or other Republicans or other Democrats were elected because a series of insufficiently sophisticated, insufficiently secure computer voting machines was affected by bad design, bad use, damp ballots, power surges, and/or static cling

URL: https://www.spiegel.de/wissenschaft/mensch/0,1518,druck-328761,00.html
