I have always said that if Great Britain were defeated in war I hoped we should find a Hitler to lead us back to our rightful position among the nations.

I am sorry, however, that he has not been mellowed by the great success that has attended him.

The whole world would rejoice to see the Hitler of peace + tolerance + nothing would adorn his name in world history so much as acts of magnanimity + of mercy + of pity to the forlorn + friendless, to the weak + poor. ...

Let this great man search his own heart and conscience before he accuses anyone of being a warmonger.

07.Nov.1938 "Mr. Churchill's Reply" in The Times () Hitler is a monster of wickedness, insatiable in his lust for blood + plunder.

Not content with having all Europe under his heel, or else terrorized into various forms of abject submission, he must now carry his work of butchery + desolation among the vast multitudes of Russia + of Asia.

The terrible military machine, which we + the rest of the civilised world so foolishly, so supinely, so insensately allowed the Nazi gangsters to build up year by year from almost nothing cannot stand idle lest it rust or fall to pieces. . .

So now this bloodthirsty guttersnipe must launch his mechanized armies upon new fields of slaughter, pillage and devastation. Radio broadcast on the German invasion of Russia (June 1941)

There is no concrete evidence that Jews were involved in the Bolshevik Revolution because they were Jewish.

There may indeed have been a higher proportion of Jews involved, but given tsarist treatment of Jews, what else would we expect?

There were probably many Englishmen or persons of English origin in the American Revolution fighting the redcoats. So what? Does that make the American Revolution an English conspiracy?

Winston Churchill's statement that Jews had a "very great role" in the Bolshevik Revolution is supported only by distorted evidence.

Another document marked "Most Secret" is included with this batch of material. The provenance of the document is unknown; it is perhaps FBI or military intelligence.

It reviews a translation of the Protocols of the Meetings of the Wise Men of Zion + concludes:

In this connection a letter was sent to Mr. W. enclosing a memorandum from us with regard to certain information from the American Military Attache to the effect that the British authorities had letters intercepted from various groups of international Jews setting out a scheme for world dominion. Copies of this material will be very useful to us.

This information was apparently developed and a later British intelligence report makes the flat accusation:

SUMMARY: There is now definite evidence that Bolshevism is an international movement controlled by Jews;

communications are passing between the leaders in America, France, Russia + England with a view to concerted action.... 4 However, none of the above statements can be supported with hard empirical evidence

It states:

"Thule members were the people to whom Hitler first turned + who first allied themselves with Hitler.

The armament of the coming Fuehrer consisted of - besides the Thule Society itself -the Deutscher Arbeiterverein, founded in the Thule by Brother Karl Harrer at Munich + the Deutsch-Sozialistche Partei, headed there by Hans Georg Grassinger, whose organ was the "Munchener Beobachter," later to be renamed the "Völkischer Beobachter."

00.Sep.1918 Another Germanenorden meeting is held at the Four Seasons Hotel. Johannes Hering's diary records frequent meetings after this date + the lodge is convoked at least once a week for investitures, lectures and excursions. Since its ritual activities are supplemented by overt right-wing meetings, the term Thule Society has been adopted as a cover-name to spare it the unwelcome attention of socialists + pro-Republican elements. The rooms are decorated with the Thule emblem showing a long dagger superimposed over a shining swastika sunwheel. ( Roots )

(Note: Germany is prepared to negotiate on the basis of Wilson's Fourteen Points, but since its representatives are not allowed to attend the conference, it matters little.

The Germans are at the mercy of the armistice which will be renewed each month for the next six months.

The blockade (including foodstuffs) remains in place during that time + conditions deteriorate severely in Germany, creating a residue of bitterness which will begin to raise havoc only a decade later.) (Schlesinger I)

21.Jan.1919 Wilson submits Buckler's report of his meeting with Litvinov to the Big Five in Paris.

More librarian power - by Alan Power

Michael Moore's, Stupid White Men, has topped the book charts in both Britain and the US, selling over a million copies world-wide since its release

00.Mar.2001 . However, were it not for the rebellious actions of a New Jersey librarian, the book would probably never have even made it as far as the bookshops.

The story begins on the day before September 11 2001, where HarperCollins had just printed the first 50,000 copies of Stupid White Men.

The book had been fiercely critical of American politics, politicians and the President, whom the author claims stole the highest seat in office on the back of a right-wing coup.

The book also contained an open letter asking President Bush if he was ever a drunk, felon or illiterate. The next day incomparable terrorist atrocities were unleashed on American soil.

Harper Collins, sensing the patriotic wave that was about to sweep America, delayed its release and requested that the author rewrite half the book. They also asked for its title to be changed.

Moore suggested a number of equally unacceptable titles + wondered if the publishers should also slap a banner across the cover, exclaiming: APPROVED BY THE OFFICE OF HOMELAND SECURITY.

Moore was also told that he would have to pay $10,000 towards the reprint costs.

Moore refused to assist in his own censorship and was told by his editor that the book was to be pulped.

Two months later, Moore was giving a presentation to 100 or so people at a citizens' action group in New Brunswick, New Jersey and happened to tell his audience of the troubles he was having with his publishers.

He read a couple of chapters to audience, telling them they would "probably be the only people in America to hear these words." He went on to tell them, "don't call the publisher, don't call the press.

Let me deal with it." One person in the crowd, librarian Ann Sparanese refused to heed Moore's request.

The next day, thanks to Sparanese, news of the censorship travesty was sweeping its way across cyberspace via chatrooms and email newslists.

Within days, HarperCollins caught wind of the growing rebellion and contacted Moore. "What did you tell the librarians?" they asked.

"We're getting hundreds of letters a day from angry librarians. Do you know how much business we do with these people?"

HarperCollins, in spite of the book's controversial contents at such a sensitive time, quickly gave in and released it, fully unexpurgated.

However, they told Moore that he was out of touch with the American people + effectively distanced themselves the book's promotion by giving it no publicity.

On the first day of its release, all 50,000 copies were sold and the next day it was number one seller on amazon.com.

By the fifth day it was in its ninth print. The book's phenomenal success continues to this day having returned to the number one position in the New York Times Bestseller list at the beginning of March this year.

The bad guys have managed to do this a lot lately, despite the President's poll numbers. Immigration. Flag burning.

The Republicans will announce: "Let's talk about this . Let's not talk about the war or the economy." And as always, the Dems go along.
How to control the agenda?
Here's how. U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez and Democratic leaders are hoping to convince voters the Republican Congress is weak on national security....
Menendez decried how much of the cargo shipped into the nation's ports goes uninspected.
"We need to scan 100 % of the cargo," he said.
Menendez was a vocal critic earlier this year of the Bush administration's plan to let a Dubai-owned company buy a stake in several U.S. ports.
He also slammed the administration's chemical plant security policy.

https://www.cannonfire.blogspot.com/ The problem of Zionism Josh Marshall has thus explained his support of Zionism:

Here's what I mean. I believe in the project of building a democratic and secular Jewish state in Palestine.
Some of Israel's enemies + too many of her friends + advocates use the word to mean in a Jewish state in all of historic Palestine or even, as used to be the Revisionist credo,

a Jewish state on both sides of the Jordan River.
That's not what I believe.
I believe there should be a Palestinian state on the West Bank and in Gaza.

Not a collection of autonomous cantons but a full state, with the border being the Green Line or some very near approximation of it.

Marshall's terminology underscores the problem. Study each of these words:
"...a democratic and secular Jewish state in Palestine..."

08.Aug.2006
https://www.cannonfire.blogspot.com/ It's useless to argue that Israel is secular.

Although Judaism does not proselytize, conversions do occur. Anyone - you, me, any Palestinian - may covert to Judaism and thereby attain full citizenship rights in Israel.
So let's stop pretending that Jewish religious intolerance does not reside at the heart of the conflict.
And let's stop pretending that Zionism is or ever was a necessary response to Nazi persecution.

Quite a few Zionists collaborated with the Nazis + the leader of the Stern gang even offered to fight on Hitler's side.

The strongest anti-fascist voices in the 1930s came from anti-Zionist American Jews.

In one of the maddest declarations made during the Nuremberg trials, arch anti-Semite Julius Streicher declared his willingness to fight on the side of the Zionist movement -

- a bizarre pledge which hints at the longstanding psychological affinity between the two ideologies.
In an undervalued book called The Nazi Legacy: Klaus Barbie + the International Fascist Connection, authors Magnus Linklater, Isabel Hilton and Neal Ascherson describe how South American death squads received training and support from both European neo-Nazis and the Israelis. The world has not forgotten the close collaboration between Israel and the fascist-oriented rulers of apartheid South Africa.
Wouter Basson, the notorious South African CBW specialist mentioned in an earlier post, claims to have worked closely with Israeli counterparts. Think about it: Why wouldn't any post-war Nazi favor Zionism?

Think Tank Fires Fellow For Criticizing Bush Payson -

Last month the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think-tank, fired John Hulsman.

Heritage refuses to say exactly why they let him go, but the New Republic reports the “reasons for Hulsman’s departure” are “perfectly evident”; he criticized the Bush administration’s foreign policy.

Hulsman previously had kept his dissent to himself, but “years of insurgency, civil war + general chaos” in Iraq led him to speak out.

In an essay last year for The National Interest, Hulsman took issue with Bush’s policy in Iraq:

[N]eoconservatives, through their policies of expending blood and treasure for problematic gains such as Iraq,

are significantly retarding America’s ability to act against the true barbarians at the gate - Al-Qaeda + Islamist extremists.

And Hulsman criticized the Bush administration’s refusal to talk to regimes it dislikes, specifically Iran:

America, on the other hand, having determined the mullahs in Iran were evil, disdained to engage them.

But we cannot only conduct diplomatic relations with Canada ;

I have always naively thought a major reason for diplomacy was talking to those one didn’t agree with, in an effort to modify their behavior to suit one’s own national interests.

These critiques may seem mild, but as Chris Preble of the Cato Institute explains: “At Heritage, anything that smacks of criticism of Bush will not be tolerated.”

08.Aug.2006 No Surprise: BP’s Long Record Of Environmental Neglect Amanda - BP’s press release regarding the shutdown of its Prudhoe Bay operations:

ANCHORAGE — BP Exploration Alaska, Inc. has begun an orderly and phased shutdown of the Prudhoe Bay oil field following the discovery of unexpectedly severe corrosion and a small spill from a Prudhoe Bay oil transit line . Shutting down the field will take days to complete. Over time, these actions will reduce Alaska North Slope oil production by an estimated 400,000 barrels per day.

There is nothing “unexpected” about the corrosion or the spill. In early March, a severly corroded BP pipe leaked 134,000 to 267,000 gallons of crude at Prudhoe Bay.

It was “considered the largest oil spill ever in the energy-rich North Slope.” Government reports concluded that six other places along the pipeline also had the same corrosion.

Additionally, just last month, BP had to shut down 12 Prudhoe Bay oil wells after whistleblowers revealed the leaks.

Today on Fox News, Neil Cavuto’s guests said that the shutting down of BP’s operations means we should starting drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

But what this incident really illustrates is the extreme risk of entrusting the Alaskan wilderness to the the oil industry.

08.Aug.2006 Bush Dismisses Generals’ Concerns: ‘I Hear People Say, Well, Civil War This, Civil War That’ Judd -

Last week, Gen. John Abizaid, the Commander of the U.S. Central Command, raised the prospect that Iraq could be sliding toward civil war.

Abizaid said, “I believe that the sectarian violence is probably is as bad as I’ve seen it in Baghdad in particular + that if not stopped, it is possible that Iraq could move toward civil war.”

Gen. Peter Pace, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said, “I believe we do have the possibility of that devolving to a civil war.”

Today at a press conference, President Bush dismissed these concerns out of hand.

Bush said, “ You know, I hear people say, Well, civil war this, civil war that. The Iraqi people decided against civil war when they went to the ballot box .”

More than one hundred Iraqi civilians are dying per day, mostly in sectarian violence, according to a recent U.N. report.

Extended transcript:

BUSH: My attitude is that a young democracy has been born quite quickly. And I think the Iraqi government has shown remarkable progress on the political front.

And that is is that they developed a modern constitution that was ratified by the people and then 12 million people voted for a government.

Which gives me confidence about the future in Iraq, by the way. You know, I hear people say, Well, civil war this, civil war that.

The Iraqi people decided against civil war when they went to the ballot box.

And a unity government is working to respond to the will of the people.

And, frankly, it’s quite a remarkable achievement on the political front.

And the security front is where there has been troubles.

And it’s going to be up to the Maliki government, with U.S. help, to use the trained forces

and eventually a trained police force to take care of those who are trying to foment sectarian violence.

08.Aug.2006 Is Israel Allowing Hezbollah to Kill Its Citizens? - Another Day in the Empire
Is Israel Allowing Hezbollah to Kill Its Citizens? By Administrator on Uncategorized

For the honest historian, it comes as no surprise government either kills its own citizens or allows enemies to do the same in an effort to score propaganda points or as an excuse to commence hostilities.

Examples are numerous, from FDR denying Americans passport and travel documents to let them flee the Japanese onslaught of the Philippines in the lead up to the WWII. nd

(see US prisoners claim Roosevelt left them in Philippines deliberately) to Operation Northwoods, a plan drawn up by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to stage fake terror attacks in America (including assassination, airplane hijacking + sinking of boats) in order to devise a pretext to invade Cuba.

Indeed, some of us, routinely dismissed as tinfoil hatters, believe elements within the USA government engineered + executed the terrorist events of

11.Sep.2001 as a way to get the ball rolling on the “war against terrorism,” that is to say the war against Islam, currently heating up big time in the Middle East.

Considering the above + other examples, including the sinking of the Lusitania, a passenger ship loaded up with a secret cargo of munitions (a fact admitted by the decidedly less than conspiratorial Encyclopedia Britannica), which contributed indirectly to the entry of the USA into WWI. + the suspicious sinking of the Maine in the Havana harbor, used as a pretext for the USA to declare war on Spain in 1898, the allegation “Israel has deliberately allowed Hezbollah to retain some of it’s fire power, essentially for PR purposes, because having Israeli civilians killed helps them in the public relations war” should not be a startling or especially mind-boggling revelation.

According to Tom Ricks, a reporter for the Washington Post, during an appearance on CNN’s Reliable Sources, citing “military analysts,” Israel “purposely has left pockets of Hezbollah rockets in Lebanon, because as long as they’re being rocketed, they can continue to have a sort of moral equivalency in their operations in Lebanon.”

Or, put differently, if Hezbollah continues to rocket northern Israel, the IOF may claim “moral equivalency” and continue its push into Lebanon, once again to the Litani River, a plentiful source of fresh water that long ago figured into Israel’s calculations of its endangered water resources (see Angela Joy Moss, ICE Case Studies, Litani River and Israel-Lebanon), in fact a resource long coveted by the Zionists, going as far back as Chaim Weizmann 00.000.1919 and, a few decades later, Ben-Gurion and Moshe Dayan, who advocated Israeli occupation of Lebanon up to the Litani River (see Stephen C. Lonergan and David B. Brooks, Watershed: the Role of Fresh Water in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict).

Ronald Bleier wrote for the Middle East Labor Bulletin, Spring 1994:

Zionist interest in the waters of Lebanon goes back as least as far as the Paris Peace Conference of 1919 when Chaim Wietzman wrote to the British Prime Minister explaining that because of its water requirements, a Jewish homeland in Palestine must include the Litani River.

In the 50’s, Israeli Prime Minister Moshe Sharett recorded in his diaries that Moshe Dayan’s plan for the control of the Litani River was to “‘enter Lebanon, occupy the relevant territory’ then the ‘territory south of the Litani will be annexed to Israel and everything will fall into place.’” (Quoted in Amery, pp. 18-19)

In addition to establishing a “security zone,” or maybe we should call it a “fresh water for Israel” zone, allowing Hezbollah to fire rockets more or less unhampered into Israel + thus killing a token number of Israelis, addresses the “moral high ground problem,” that is to say it neutralizes, at least for supporters of Israel, the troublesome fact the IOF has killed around a thousand Lebanese to date (no doubt this number is much higher), the vast majority civilians, a third to half children. In addition, it allows them to reduce Lebanon to ruins and impoverish its people, part of a well-documented Zionist goal in its own right (see Oded Yinon).

If indeed Tom Ricks is correct—and the fact he works for the Washington Post should, at minimum, send up a red flag, as the Post was long ago co-opted by the CIA under Operation Mockingbird—it represents another example of government shamelessly using mostly gullible and unassuming citizens as little more than expendable pawns, as Hitler, Stalin, FDR, Mao + any number of other cold-blooded leaders have done since time immemorial.

McCain calls the tales "ugly, unfounded accusations of extraordinary evil against fellow Americans" that insult the cops and firefighters who responded to the tragedies that day.

08.Aug.2006 More Propaganda: Hezbollah Trained in Iran - Another Day in the Empire
More Propaganda: Hezbollah Trained in Iran By Administrator on Uncategorized

No doubt this one will get wide play in the corporate media. “A Hizbollah fighter captured by Israel has told interrogators he received training in Iran and arrived there on a flight from Syria, a tape of the interrogation released by the Israeli army showed on Monday…. During questioning the man also confessed to taking part in the cross-border raid on July 12 in which two Israeli soldiers were captured, the incident which sparked the current conflict,” reports, or rather stenographs, Reuters.

Such a nice little package, all tied up with ribbon. Now we have “evidence”—by way of electrodes attached to testicles, no doubt—that Iran trains Hezbollah and Syria delivers these terrorists to carry out their dastardly deeds, for instance defending their country from hundreds of Israeli border incursions since they were kicked out 00.000.2000. Of course, the Lebanese are not supposed to resist occupation and the brutality of the Israelis and simply throw their bodies under the blades of massive bulldozers (made in the USA) and the treads of Merkava tanks.

Note how Reuters simply repeats the lie that Hezbollah violated the border and “kidnapped” innocent Israeli soldiers. As previously noted here and elsewhere—although predictably and roundly ignored in the corporate media—the Israeli soldiers were captured as they infiltrated the Lebanese town of Aitaa al-Chaab, part of a larger pattern of not only illegal border crossings but also the shelling of villages, numerous air raids, attacks on Lebanese military positions, slaughtering civilians + setting up installations on Lebanese soil, violations officially (if not uselessly) reported in letters from the Chargé d’affaires of the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council. Naturally, none of this is mentioned by the corporate media as it continues a nauseating barrage of pro-Israel propaganda coupled with an endless of diet of hit pieces designed to demonize Hezbollah.

In order to understand the magnitude of the above mentioned brazen (and studiously ignored) crimes against Lebanese sovereignty, simply visit the United Nations Bibliographic Information System database. The following links point to PDF documents of the letters filed with the United Nations: January 4, 2006, February 3, 2006, February 6, 2006, March 3, 2006, April 4, 2006, May 4, 2006, May 30, 2006 + June 5, 2006. In the six month period documented by the letters, Israel violated Lebanese sovereignty 529 times.

STOYSTOWN, Pa. - It was a remarkable shot that produced a one-of-a-kind image: a green pasture, red barns in the distance and, against a brilliant blue and cloudless sky, a lone mushroom cloud of dark gray smoke.

Taken the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, seconds after United Airlines Flight 93 plunged into a nearby field, the eerie photo was + still is, according to the FBI, the closest thing it's got to an image of the crash itself.

Val McClatchey snapped the single picture with her new digital camera. The wife and mother had been sitting on the edge of her sofa, clutching her second cup of coffee and watching the smoking towers of the World Trade Center on TV, when she heard the sudden surge of a plane engine, followed by a violent, house-shaking boom. Mrs. McClatchey grabbed the camera and ran onto the front porch of her house along Indian Lake.

08.Aug.2006 Israel, Oil and the "planned demolition" of Lebanon
MIKE WHITNEY By bombing the highways and main bridges into Beirut, Israel has cut off the capital from the outside world and put the entire nation under siege. Israel can now execute its plan to pummel Lebanon into rubble without the threat of foreign intervention. The north has been effectively severed from the south allowing the IDF to continue its ethnic cleansing operations as well as its search-and-destroy missions for Hezbollah fighters. They have meticul! ously destroyed all the main points of entry at the Syrian border and blockaded the coastline. Israel believes that their earlier occupation (which ended in year 2000) failed due to the unrestricted flow of supplies and weaponry from Syria and Iran. The Bush administration has assisted this effort by providing crucial intelligence from the NSA about the movement of material from the outside. By now, it should be apparent that Israel?s military campaign has nothing to do with Hezbollah?s capturing of the 2 Israeli soldiers on July 14. The present plan, which was drawn up more than a year ago (and which high-ranking members of the Bush administration were fully briefed) is designed to establish a new northern border for Israel at the Litani River and create an "Israel-friendly" regime in Beirut. The plan to annex the land south of the Litani River dates back to the founding of the Jewish state when Israel?s first Prime Minister David Ben Gurion described the country?s futu! re borders this way: "To the north the Litani River, the south! ern bord er will be pushed into the Sinai + to the east, the Syrian Desert, including the furthest edge of Transjordan...

Xymphora We can and should get our placards and march around in a circle, but until the American government/Zionist/Israel nexus is broken, the Israeli generals will just laugh at us. This is why it is so critically important to fight the closet Zionist idea that what Israel does is at the instance of the American establishment, or is merely part of a covert war over oil, a classic example of getting the cart and the horse mixed up. The only way to put an end to Israeli colonialism, and! to prevent World War Three, is to hurt the supporters of Zionism financially. The fact that this is the only way to stop Zionism is proof of the real power relations between the parties. The Noams of the world can issue all the letters they want claiming how upset they are over Lebanon + it won?t make a tinker?s damn of difference. A boycott of Zionists will work...

The Great Deception
The propaganda that we pay for
Dr. Abbas Bakhtiar "What a man believes upon grossly insufficient evidence is an index into his desires - desires of which he himself is often unconscious. If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely + unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it ev! en on the slightest evidence". (Bertrand Russell) So it is with Messrs.

Bush + Blair which have acted time and again on the flimsiest of evidence to reshape Middle East into what they desire it to be: a neo-colonial possession to supply oil while at the same time helping their rich to get richer. You may disagree with this statement, especially, if you have been listening to so much propaganda about spreading democracy in the Muslim world in general and Middle East in particular.

So I ask you to look at the following arguments and then decide if the actions taken so far point to fighting terrorism, spreading democracy or hegemony...https://www.uruknet.info/?p=25522

STOP THE WAR COALITION RESPONSE TO DRAFT UN RESOLUTION ON LEBANON
STOP THE WAR COALITION The draft United Nations resolution being proposed in New York cannot
lay the basis for a just peace in Lebanon. It seeks to establish an occupying force in Lebanon. It does not call for an immediate ceasefire from Israel.

By legitimising the Israeli occupation of Southern Lebanon it lays the basis for the further continuation and expansion of that war. This resolution has been rejected by the Lebanese government.

From the very beginning of the Israeli attacks both the Lebanese government and Hizbollah have called for an immediate ceasefire.

The war in Lebanon is part of the wider 'war on terror? being prosecuted by Britain + the US in Iraq and Afghanistan.https://www.uruknet.info/?p=25524

The Ever-Expanding War
Birth Pangs and Dead Babies
SHARON SMITH

06.Aug.2006 Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice + President George W. Bush pieced together (with France's blessing) a toothless UN Security Council resolution on Lebanon.

The resolution does not even call for Israel's withdrawal from its neighboring Arab sovereign state. In so doing, the U.S. gave its imperial partner, Israel, a green light to continue its carnage.

U.S. fingerprints were already all over Israel's war on Lebanon, graphic! ally illustrated by the

30.Jul.2006 massacre of more than 60 civilians at Qana.

Israel bombed Qana with U.S.-made F-16 fighter planes, while a bomb fragment found at the Qana bombing site read,

"For use on MK-84, Guided Bomb BSU-37/B"-produced by the Boeing corporation to convert MK-84s into precision bombs.

Like the bombs, this war is "made in the USA."

Lebanon is just the latest of the U.S.' many fronts in its "war on terror," now approaching its fifth anniversary.

Yet, despite its ferocity, this war is proving to be an abysmal failure for U.S. imperialism-in Afghanistan and Iraq + also in its proxy wars in Palestine + Lebanon...https://www.uruknet.info/?p=25523

The Hypocrisy of Corporate Wars
Siv O'Neall, Axis of Logic

The huge difference between yesterday?s cruel wars of conquest and today?s cataclysmic wars is not only the high-tech approach to the devastation wrought in the present wars.

Above all, they are not primarily wars of conquest, they are corporate wars of domination of geopolitically dominant areas, such as in the present war for profit which is dishonestly presented to the world as a total + ever-lasting war on terror, the intended total domination of th! e strategically essential Middle East region. But what we must not fail to see is the senseless greed involved in the present-day wars, not just as far as oil is concerned and the domination of oil producing regions, but the obscene profits made by arms manufacturers and by the oil industry. Is the carefully built construct of a big lie intended to convince the American people and the world of the necessity of this totally uncalled-for war? And after all the hype and spin, is the very idea of a war on terror now starting to fall apart? The credibility of U.S. and Israeli warmongers is shredding in front of our eyes, facing the heightened insurgency the war has brought about in the Arab countries and the lack of support in the world at large. Also facing the outrageous cost of this war for profit of the very few and the dear consequences for the people at home...https://www.uruknet.info/?p=25533

Hezbollah Rides a New Popularity
Dahr Jamail, Inter Press Service As the war in Lebanon approaches the one-month mark + amid the destruction of much of Lebanon, Hezbollah appears to be gaining strength within the country + around the Arab world.

The Israeli aim of widespread bombing of the Lebanese infrastructure in order to create resentment against Hezbollah seems to have played into the strengths of Hezbollah. Hezbollah, known in many western countries as a "terrorist organisation", is widely seen in Lebanon as a legitimate political and social power.

One reason for this, according to an official representative of Hezbollah and member of the Lebanese Parliament, is that Hezbollah has never aimed to turn Lebanon into an Islamic state.

"Hezbollah is a democratic party whose principles are based on the Lebanese constitution," Tarad Hamade told IPS.

"This means we have to respect the cultural + religious diversity in the country.

We have never intended to establish an Islamic state"... https://www.uruknet.info/?p=25531

UN resolution on Lebanon: blueprint for intensified war and colonial occupation
Bill Van Auken, WSWS The US-French resolution that is to be voted on by the United Nations Security Council early this week represents an imperialist diktat to the people of Lebanon + an attempt by Washington to legitimize and consummate the geo-strategic goals pursued in the last month of US-Israeli war of aggression.

It is deliberately written in such a provocative manner as to ensure its rejection not only by Hezbollah, but by the Lebanese government itself. Not a single Lebanese grievance is addressed.

What it demands, essentially, is that Hezbollah enter a suicide pact with its enemies and that Lebanon accepts its transformation into a semi-colony.... https://www.uruknet.info/?p=25521

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Sunday, 6 August 2006.
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice ...In a dispatch posted at 6:40pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier a huge explosion shook a US military encampment located in al-Fallujah, about 60km west of Baghdad. The al-Fallujah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported hat the blast went off in a house in the as-Sajar area outside the center of the city, igniting a big fire. US helicopters and vehicles closed off the area making information on the nature and extent of US casualties impossible to obtain. Witnesses who were lined up at the nearby fuel station when the blast occurred confirmed to the correspondent that a Resistance fida?i fighter had attacked the camp set up in the local house with an explosives-laden car...

An "unparalleled, hellish plot".
Lenin's Tomb I can only marvel at those who seriously pretend that this aggression by Israel has to do with an existential threat to that country, as one contemptible Israeli 'peacenik' did in The Observer yesterday (the article was entitled 'Voices from Across the Divide' + the voices unmistakeably said 'Death to the Arabs'). For this unctuous berk, it's World War III - and, of course, the Arabs are cast as the Axis + it's all very very tough for Israel, so tough that "Our ! job now is to survive". Interestingly, what he describes as the Israeli far right position, that this war happened because Israel pulled out of Lebanon (even though it did not), is the publicly avowed position of the Chief Rabbi in Britain. Amos Oz is harped on the same theme of Israel's right-to-butcher-Arabs a couple of weeks ago...

Israel's leaders: Second-generation terrorists
Eli Stephens, Left I on the News Ariel Sharon is well-known for the massacre of thousands of Palestinians in the Lebanese refugee camps of Sabra and Shatila. Even an Israeli commission found him "indirectly responsible." Before him as Israeli Prime Minister, there was Menachem Begin, the former head of the Jewish terrorist group Irgun,

whose murder of 92 people with the bombing of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem

00.000.1946 was one of the seminal events leading to the establishment of the state of Israel (a bombing which was recently commemorated (!) with a new plaque in a ceremony attended by yet another former Israeli Prime Minister, Benamin Netanyahu). I'm sure there are others I'm omitting.

But now, from an article in The Independent (with a hat tip to Footnotes from a Small Village), we learn that Israel is now being led by the second-generation...https://www.uruknet.info/?p=25530

Israel confesses to planning war crimes
Eli Stephens, Left I on the News We all know Israel has been committing war crimes every single day. However, it's rare that they actually admit it. Rare, but not unheard of: A senior General Staff officer told Ha'aretz that for the first time since the fighting began, Israel plans to attack strategic infrastructure targets and symbols of the Lebanese government. Other than bombing the Beirut airport to prevent arms transfers to Hezbollah, Israel has hitherto not target! ed Lebanon's infrastructure, insisting that it is only at war with Hezbollah, not with the Lebanese government or people. However, the officer said, "we are now in a process of renewed escalation. We will continue hitting everything that moves in Hezbollah - but we will also hit strategic civilian infrastructure." ...

Until about 500 million years ago, early animals had 13 such Hox genes. Then each gene split into four, making 52 genes.

Over the course of evolution, further mutations occurred + some genes became redundant and disappeared, leading to today's tally in mammals of 39 Hox genes.

The Utah team looked at two of these genes; Hoxa1, which controls embryonic brain development + Hoxb1, which plays a key role in the development of nerve cells that control facial expressions in animals.

18th Century Pigment to Revolutionize Chip Design? ScuttleMonkey 23 - Scarlet X writes

"Researchers at the University of Washington have discovered a possible nonvolatile magnetic semiconductor + are investigating its use for 'spintronics,' an emerging technology that is concerned with manipulating + controlling the charge, flow + magnetism of electrons.

The possibilities for the material 'cobalt green,' a paint developed by American Revolution era artists, as a spintronics material is exciting.

Should the magnetic properties of the paint at room-temperature prove able to reliably control the wild spinning of excited electrons in a processor, not only could the size of processors reduce substantially, but the constant limiting factor, how to keep things cool, could disappear."

AOL Releases Search Logs of 657,427 Users timothy 279 -

"AOL has released the search logs of over 650,000 users for research purposes.

This looks like it may become a public relations disaster for AOL, as well as a privacy nightmare for the users involved as Michael Arrington of TechCrunch notes:

"AOL has released very private data about its users without their permission.

While the AOL username has been changed to a random ID number, the ability to analyze all searches by a single user will often lead people to easily determine who the user is + what they are up to.

The data includes personal names, addresses, social security numbers and everything else someone might type into a search box."

This is also being covered on The Paradigm Shift and Oh My News." fantomas adds " Looks like they've just taken it down but it's still available on The Pirate Bay;

not sure why but some of the academic researchers are going crazy musing the ethical aspects of letting the world know who's searching for how to kill their wives ..." Update: 08/07 21:32 GMT by T : amromousa writes "AOL is now apologizing for the release ..., calling it a "screw-up," which they're upset and angry about."

An Older, Larger Universe. Hemos 422+ - Josh Fink writes

"Space.com has a very interesting article as part their weekly mystery Monday series about a new calculation that shows that the Universe is actually much older than than the 14.3 billion years old that was established 00.000.2003. From the article,

"...the universe is instead about 15.8 billion years old + about 180 billion light-years wide."

The calculations were based off of a recalculation of the Hubble Constant which dictates how fast the universe is expanding + they found it is actually 15% slower than previously thought.

The findings will be printed in an upcoming edition of Astrophysical Journal."

Photonic Breakthrough Allows 'Lab-on-a-Chip' ScuttleMonkey 64+ - Roland Piquepaille writes

"Georgia Tech researchers have shrunk an optical device called wavelength demultiplier (WD) by combining into one crystal three unique properties of photonics crystals.

This optical discovery opens the way to sophisticated and cheap bio-sensors mounted on 'lab-on-a-chip' devices - sensors to run blood tests, detect chemicals in water supplies or for drug testing.

Their new WD is less than a millimeter in all dimensions rather than the several centimeters of other currently available WDs. And it should not cost more to produce."

Deutsche Geschichte

07.Aug.2006 https://www.whatreallyhappened.com/trinitite.html Mutual Assured Destruction, a.k.a. MAD.

Mutual Assured Destruction began to emerge at the end of the Kennedy administration.

MAD reflects the idea that one's population could best be protected by leaving it vulnerable so long as the other side faced comparable vulnerabilities.

In short: Whoever shoots first, dies second.
If Iran needs to be invaded + occupied, to prevent them from ever developing and possibly using a nuclear weapon against the mainland USA, then our parents + grandparents wasted untold trillions in producing nuclear weapons and submarines to defend against just such a threat.

And we want our money back. See also: Iraq: The Words of Mass Deception
The Ohio class are the largest submarines ever built for the U.S. Navy + are second only to the Russian Typhoon class in mass and size. A single submarine carries the destructive power more than nine times greater than all Allied ordnance dropped in WWII.

Only the whales and dolphins know where these submarines are when they are out on patrol. Not even the president knows their exact location. "Somewhere in the Pacific."
Why Iran's nuclear weapons don't matter.
The CIA gave the UN inspectors a list of sites they were convinced had weapons of mass destruction. Nothing. But Bush still got his invasion + grabbed the oil wells.

Of course, the issue has shifted.
Those that insist that Iraq's weapons of mass destruction were a threat that justified invasion are in essence claiming that the US Government took $5 trillion of your money (over $17,000 from each of you alive today) in a gigantic swindle, because the $5 trillion nuclear deterrent isn't a deterrent after all, that it doesn't work, that nobody is really afraid of it, because they all know it was just a hoax to soak the American taxpayer for another several thousand dollars. Was it all a hoax, Mr. Bush?

Did the American people foot a $5 trillion bill in 00.000.1950 s dollars for a deterrent system that isn't really a deterrent?

Either the deterrent works or it does not. If it doesn't, then the American taxpayers have been defrauded on a grand scale. But if the nuclear deterrent does work, then Iraq can have all the weapons of mass destruction they want, they just won't dare use them.
The above image is a scan of a piece of Trinitite. This is desert sand that was underneath the explosion of the world's first Atomic bomb in New Mexico as part of project TRINITY, hence the name Trinitite. The heat from that blast melted the sand into a green glass, not unlike the Fulgurites that result when lightning hits sandy soil.

Now, imagine an entire nation looking like the above sample, melted into green glass. Buried in the green glass are the charred remains of the people of that nation. It's not an idle fantasy. The US spent $5 trillion dollars (1950s dollars) building a nuclear deterrent capability that can actually do that; melt any nation and it's people into a giant slab of green glass. The USSR knew it, the world knows it, Saddam knew it. The government of Iran knows it.

Even if Iraq had possessed weapons of mass destruction (which we now know they did not) + even if Iraq had the long range ICBMs to reach across the Atlantic with (which we know they did not), Iraq would still not have been a threat to the US because any attack with a weapon of mass destruction would be national suicide.

Brian Whitaker investigates whether the 'independent' media institute that translates the Arabic newspapers is quite what it seems Brian Whitaker
12.Aug.2002 Guardian Unlimited

For some time now, I have been receiving small gifts from a generous institute in the USA. The gifts are high-quality translations of articles from Arabic newspapers which the institute sends to me by email every few days, entirely free-of-charge.

The emails also go to politicians and academics, as well as to lots of other journalists. The stories they contain are usually interesting.
The following correction was printed in the Guardian's Corrections + Clarifications column, Wednesday 21.Aug.2002

In an article headed Atrocity stories regain currency, page 13, August 8 + in an article headed Selective Memri on the Guardian website, we referred to Dr Adil Awadh, an Iraqi doctor who alleged that Saddam Hussein had ordered doctors to amputate the ears of soldiers who deserted. Dr Awadh has asked us to make it clear that he has no connection with Memri (Middle East Media Research Institute) + that he did not authorise its translation of parts of an article by him. He is no longer a member of the Iraqi National Accord (INA). He is an independent member of the Iraqi National Congress (INC). His reference to orders by Saddam Hussein to cut off the ears of deserters has been supported by evidence from other sources.
Memri's next success came a month later when Saudi Arabia's ambassador to London wrote a poem entitled The Martyrs - about a young woman suicide bomber - which was published in al-Hayat newspaper.

Memri sent out translated extracts from the poem, which it described as "praising suicide bombers". Whether that was the poem's real message is a matter of interpretation. It could, perhaps more plausibly, be read as condemning the political ineffectiveness of Arab leaders, but Memri's interpretation was reported, almost without question, by the western media.

These incidents involving Saudi Arabia should not be viewed in isolation. They are part of building a case against the kingdom and persuading the USA to treat it as an enemy, rather than an ally.

It's a campaign that the Israeli government and American neo-conservatives have been pushing since early this year - one aspect of which was the bizarre anti-Saudi briefing at the Pentagon, hosted last month by Richard Perle.

To anyone who reads Arabic newspapers regularly, it should be obvious that the items highlighted by Memri are those that suit its agenda and are not representative of the newspapers' content as a whole.

The danger is that many of the senators, congressmen and "opinion formers" who don't read Arabic but receive Memri's emails may get the idea that these extreme examples are not only truly representative but also reflect the policies of Arab governments.

Memri's Col Carmon seems eager to encourage them in that belief. In Washington last April, in testimony to the House committee on international relations, he portrayed the Arab media as part of a wide-scale system of government-sponsored indoctrination.

"The controlled media of the Arab governments conveys hatred of the west + in particular, of the USA," he said. "Prior to September 11, one could frequently find articles which openly supported, or even called for, terrorist attacks against the USA ...

"The USA is sometimes compared to Nazi Germany, President Bush to Hitler, Guantanamo to Auschwitz," he said.

In the case of the al-Jazeera satellite channel, he added, "the overwhelming majority of guests and callers are typically anti-American and anti-semitic".

Unfortunately, it is on the basis of such sweeping generalisations that much of American foreign policy is built these days.
The email it circulated last week about Saddam Hussein ordering people's ears to be cut off was an extract from a longer article in the pan-Arab newspaper, al-Hayat, by Adil Awadh who claimed to have first-hand knowledge of it.

It was the sort of tale about Iraqi brutality that newspapers would happily reprint without checking, especially in the current atmosphere of war fever. It may well be true, but it needs to be treated with a little circumspection.

Mr Awadh is not exactly an independent figure. He is, or at least was, a member of the Iraqi National Accord, an exiled Iraqi opposition group backed by the US - and neither al-Hayat nor Memri mentioned this.

Also, Mr Awadh's allegation first came to light some four years ago, when he had a strong personal reason for making it. According to a Washington Post report 00.000.1998, the amputation claim formed part of his application for political asylum in the USA.

At the time, he was one of six Iraqis under arrest in the US as suspected terrorists or Iraqi intelligence agents + he was trying to show that the Americans had made a mistake.

Earlier this year, Memri scored two significant propaganda successes against Saudi Arabia. The first was its translation of an article from al-Riyadh newspaper in which a columnist wrote that Jews use the blood of Christian or Muslim children in pastries for the Purim religious festival.

The writer, a university teacher, was apparently relying on an anti-semitic myth that dates back to the middle ages. What this demonstrated, more than anything, was the ignorance of many Arabs - even those highly educated - about Judaism and Israel + their readiness to believe such ridiculous stories.

But Memri claimed al-Riyadh was a Saudi "government newspaper" - in fact it's privately owned - implying that the article had some form of official approval.
The reason for Memri's air of secrecy becomes clearer when we look at the people behind it. The co-founder and president of Memri + the registered owner of its website, is an Israeli called Yigal Carmon.

Mr - or rather, Colonel - Carmon spent 22 years in Israeli military intelligence and later served as counter-terrorism adviser to two Israeli prime ministers, Yitzhak Shamir and Yitzhak Rabin.

Retrieving another now-deleted page from the archives of Memri's website also throws up a list of its staff. Of the six people named, three - including Col Carmon - are described as having worked for Israeli intelligence.

Among the other three, one served in the Israeli army's Northern Command Ordnance Corps, one has an academic background + the sixth is a former stand-up comedian.

Col Carmon's co-founder at Memri is Meyrav Wurmser, who is also director of the centre for Middle East policy at the Indianapolis-based Hudson Institute, which bills itself as "America's premier source of applied research on enduring policy challenges".

The ubiquitous Richard Perle, chairman of the Pentagon's defence policy board, recently joined Hudson's board of trustees.
Although Memri claims that it does provide translations from Hebrew media, I can't recall receiving any.

Evidence from Memri's website also casts doubt on its non-partisan status. Besides supporting liberal democracy, civil society + the free market, the institute also emphasises "the continuing relevance of Zionism to the Jewish people and to the state of Israel".

That is what its website used to say, but the words about Zionism have now been deleted. The original page, however, can still be found in internet archives.
a story circulated by Memri. First of all, it's a rather mysterious organisation. Its website does not give the names of any people to contact, not even an office address.

The reason for this secrecy, according to a former employee, is that "they don't want suicide bombers walking through the door on Monday morning" (Washington Times, June 20).

This strikes me as a somewhat over-the-top precaution for an institute that simply wants to break down east-west language barriers.

The second thing that makes me uneasy is that the stories selected by Memri for translation follow a familiar pattern: either they reflect badly on the character of Arabs or they in some way further the political agenda of Israel. I am not alone in this unease.

Ibrahim Hooper of the Council on American-Islamic Relations told the Washington Times: "Memri's intent is to find the worst possible quotes from the Muslim world and disseminate them as widely as possible."
Memri's purpose, according to its website, is to bridge the language gap between the west
- where few speak Arabic - + the Middle East, by "providing timely translations of Arabic, Farsi + Hebrew media".

Hagel: Iraq Is ‘A Hopeless, Winless Situation’ Judd -

Appearing today on CBS Face the Nation, Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) described Iraq as “a hopeless, winless situation.” He harshly criticized the Bush administration’s recent decision to increase troop levels calling it “very wrong” and “irresponsible.”

Hagel said Iraq was “headed” toward a civil war. He was adamant that “we cannot put American troops + ask them to do the things that we’re asking them to do in the middle of a civil war.” Hagel added, “I hope this administration has got a way out of this.” Watch it:

Transcript:

HAGEL: There’s no good options here, no good options. I–I would move toward a higher ground toward right back to what you talked about, Bob, the regionalization. I would–I would get the first President Bush, President Clinton involved and try to impanel a–a regional security conference, a regional diplomatic conference. The UN can be part of that. Unless you come at it that way, we’re going to be leaving Iraq + it is not going to be the way we intended to leave Iraq. Because that–that is the direction of where this is going. It is very wrong, Bob, to put American troops in a hopeless, winless situation, just keep feeding them in to–to what’s going on. That’s irresponsible and that is wrong.

SCHIEFFER: But if, if the USA leaves, won’t you somehow have a confederation of Iran and the government there with the Shiites that are in–in–in southern Iraq?

Sen. HAGEL: Bob, like I said, there…there–Bob, Bob, there are no good options here. That–that may well happen, I don’t know. But let me ask you the question + I hope the president and his people are starting to ask themselves this question, that what is–what is the alternative? Are we going to put our troops in the middle of a civil war? Who are they going to fight? This will be slaughter of immense proportions. The American people will not put up with it, the leadership in Congress will not put up with it. I hope this administration has got a way out of this, because yes that’s a tough question, Bob, but the fact is that may well be the way it turns out. But we cannot put American troops + ask them to do the things that we’re asking them to do in the middle of a civil war + that’s where it’s headed.

Felicity Arbuthnot ...Protocol 1 defines inhumanity's limits in conflict, making specific, through listing examples, principles that were and are inherent in many human rights and humanitarian law instruments. Though signatury to the 1949 Geneva Convention, the State of Israel refused and continues to refuse to sign the Additional Protocol, which essentially is prohibiting genocide. A unique irony for a country whose people have suffered one, within historically recent memory. US Commander in Chief, President Bush is famous for not reading (last known attempt : 'My Pet Goat', to a group of school children, pictured with him holding it upside down), Prime Minister Blair, QC., would seem to have the attention span of a gnat and seemingly has not found the time
- and Israel's leaders clearly don't care. So much for the Protocol 1, which Israel has, not signed; the US (whose missiles and bombs rain down on Palestine and Lebanon) has signed but not ratified. Thus Israel gives itself "legal" license to do exactly what is prohibited in the Convention. That it can does not mean that it can forever get away with it...

Eli Stephens, Left I on the News Yesterday, Israel brutally murdered 33 Syrian farm workers in the town of Qaa in Lebanon, firing U.S.-made and supplied missiles from U.S.-made and supplied jets. A massacre, a war crime of the first order, quite possibly committed with weapons supplied by the U.S. since the shooting began. So how did the media, saturated with similar atrocities occuring nearly every day, treat this news? The New York Times has a front page article on the assault on Lebanon. They know that this episode, along with so many other atrocities will soon be forgotten. It is the nature of things that it is always the winners and the powerful that write the history. The weak and the conquered are always the ones that are blamed for all the misfortune that has befallen them. US-Israeli war aim is to annihilate Lebanon
World Socialist Web Site Editorial Board The sharp escalation of the attacks against Lebanon Friday have made it abundantly clear that the objective of this US-Israeli war of aggression is to demolish Lebanon as an independent and sovereign country. The war is aimed at transforming the country into an occupied territory controlled by the US and Israel, perhaps through the medium of a NATO "peacekeeping" force. The destruction of Lebanon is being carried out quite deliberately + with very definite designs. For Israel, it is yet again a matter of annexation of more territory.

Bad Apples from a Rotten Tree
Military Training and Atrocities
Sgt. MARTIN SMITH, USMC (Ret.) The mounting revelations of war crimes in Iraq have ripped the mask of democracy and nation-building off of a fatigued and wearied Uncle Sam, revealing the true face of U.S. imperialism. At least thirty U.S. servicemen are being prosecuted or are under investigation for the murder of Iraqi civilians. Twenty-one year old Steven Green, who served in the 502nd Infantry Regiment, was charged with the gang rape andmurder of a fourteen-year old Iraqi girl in Al-Mahmudiyah, south of Baghdad. The accused, with the assistance of five other soldiers, allegedly premeditated the attack and carried it out in broad daylight. After a drinking bout, the soldiers changed out of their uniforms and Green covered his face with a brown skivvy undershirt to avoid detection as they entered the woman's house to commit the crime. After the sexual assault, they murdered her and poured a flammable liquid over her body to destroy the evidence. Afterwards, Green shot the victim's parents and sister in the head, execution-style. Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Friday, 4 August 2006
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice ...In a dispatch posted at 12 noon Makkah time Friday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a US fighter plane struck areas in the border strip that divides Iraq from Syria on Friday. The al-Qa?im correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses who live in the Makr adh-Dhib area five kilometers from the Syrian border as saying that an American fighter planestruck desert areas in the strip that lies between the Iraqi and Syrian border outposts. The reason for the American air strike were unclear. The correspondent pointed out that the no-man?s-land along the border is empty desert country with no buildings.

The Americans were therefore probably targeting individuals trying to cross the frontier in an area where there are many border crossings by individuals on foot... https://www.uruknet.info/?p=25455

Lebanon: Israel wages war of starvation
Associated Press Israel is waging a "war of starvation" on Lebanon's civilians in an effort to force the government to agree to Israel's demands, Lebanese President Emile Lahoud said in a statement issued Friday. His comments came after Israeli warplanes bombed bridges and roads in Christian neighborhoods north of Beirut, killing five civilians and making travel between suburbs increasingly difficult. Missiles struck the country's main north-south highway - its primary artery to the outside world, through Syria in the north.

"The Israeli enemy's bombing of bridges and roads is aimed at tightening the blockade on the Lebanese, cutting communications between them and starving them," Lahoud said... https://www.uruknet.info/?p=25454

Iraqi picture said to be from Lebanon
Some websites are running a picture coming from Iraq, thinking it is from Lebanon. Israeli propaganda is working full time, to discredit the real story coming from Lebanon and Palestine. One of the propaganda technique is for example to distribute false pictures in order to undermine the credibility of the real ones.

Israel To Hezbollah: Please Bomb Tel Aviv
KABOBfest In effect that is what Israel is doing. Yesterday, Hezbollah secretary general, Hassan Nasrallah, declared terms for truce, saying that his group would stop firing at Israel, if Israel stops its attacks at Lebanon. Conversely, he threatened that should Israel attack Beirut, Hezbollah would attack Tel Aviv. Israel?s immediate response, which came so fast makes you think it was instinctive, rather than deliberated, was to intensify the bombing of Lebanon, targeting Beirut and infrastructure like bridges, including 24 air raids against Beirut in less than an hour last night...

Traumatised and Afraid - 300,000 Children Who Want to Go Home
Anne Penketh and Kim Sengupta, the Independent / UK "I don't want to die. I want to go to school," says Jamal, a four-year-old Lebanese boy scarred by the Israeli bombing of his country. Home for Jamal is now a "displacement centre" in the southern town of Jezzine, where his family fled in fear for their lives. "We've had our picnic + we want to go home now," says another child, staying in a makeshift refugee camp in the Sanayeh public gardens in Beirut. "We are bored and afraid and we want to go home," says another. These are the voices of the dispossessed of Lebanon, the hundreds of thousands of children whose world was changed forever in the seconds that followed the explosion of a bomb. "Mummy, what is a massacre?" another child asks...

07.Aug.2006 Mossad's links with Tony Blair, No 10, Lord Levy and the Foreign Office By Postman

This guy looks like Uncle Werthur and should be force feeding the grandchildren with toffees. Maybe he does.
He is Efraim Halevy + he has been on BBC TV defending the actions of the failed Israeli State
- which is not surprising because he used to run Mossad -

Mrs Livni, the Israeli Forein Secretary was one of his staff at the time.
He is also a school chum (Hackney Downs) of the Karaoke King, My Lord Levy, Tony Blairs's "Personal Envoy" to the Middle East who has houses + business interest in both the UK + Israel.
Lord Levy of course has an office in the Foreign Office immediately adjacent to the office of HMG Foreign Secretary Mrs Margaret Beckett.
There is of course no Jewish Lobby at work in the UK and certainly not at the Heart of Government. To suggest that would be a scandalum magnatum as mi learn'd friends might say.
As proof
- notice that since he was kidnapped by the Metropolitan Police + his computers seized + documents removed from his house, you haven't heard a word of, by or from him.

Which given the state of the Middle East at present might be considered odd. Or not.
Now why don't those smart journalists who throng Downing Street ask Tony what his tennis playing chum, the man quite scandalously said to be at the heart of "cash for coronets" is doing to help him solve the problems of the Middle East.
I wonder what the guys who work for Mr Desmond, pornographer, labour funder and owner of the Star and the Express must think ?

Israel ALLOWING Hezbollah rockets to be launched into Israel for PR purposesIn ISRAEL

THOMAS RICKS, REPORTER, "THE WASHINGTON POST": I think it will be. But I think civilian casualties are also part of the battlefield play for both sides here. One of the things that is going on, according to some U.S. military analysts, is that Israel purposely has left pockets of Hezbollah rockets in Lebanon, because as long as they're being rocketed, they can continue to have a sort of moral equivalency in their operations in Lebanon.

The Brussels Tribunal Slanders Uruknet
Uruknet Editorial Staff
Dear Readers,
More than three years ago Uruknet started its independent media project, "information from occupied Iraq". In these Orwellian times we have offered our readers with news and comments from a wide range of sources. Without sponsors, public or private funding our staff work on a volunteer basis in solidarity with the Iraqi People?s just struggle for freedom and independence against the illegal and immoral invasion and occupation of their country. In critical moments it?s our moral duty to stay close to the facts against the perils of rewriting history, without conceding points that shouldn't be conceded. We believe this is more important than any other consideration. It?s in this spirit that we release this editorial.

9/ 11 conspiracy theorists thriving By JUSTIN POPE, AP Education Writer 1 hour, 8 minutes ago
Kevin Barrett believes the U.S government might have destroyed the World Trade Center. Steven Jones is researching what he calls evidence that the twin towers were brought down by explosives detonated inside them, not by hijacked airliners.
These men aren't uneducated junk scientists: Barrett will teach a class on Islam at the University of Wisconsin this fall, over the protests of more than 60 state legislators. Jones is a tenured physicist at Brigham Young University whose mainstream academic job has made him a hero to conspiracy theorists.
Five years after the terrorist attacks, a community that believes widely discredited ideas about what happened on Sept. 11, 2001, persists and even thrives. Members trade their ideas on the Internet and in self-published papers and in books. About 500 of them attended a recent conference in Chicago.
The movement claims to be drawing fresh energy and credibility from a recently formed group called Scholars for 9/11 Truth.
The organization says publicity over Barrett's case has helped boost membership to about 75 academics. They are a tiny minority of the 1 million part
- and full-time faculty nationwide + some have no university affiliation. Most aren't experts in relevant fields. But some are well educated, with degrees from elite universities such as Princeton and Stanford and jobs at schools including Rice, Indiana and the University of Texas.CONT.

The Case for Boycotting Israel - Boycott Now!
VIRGINIA TILLEY It is finally time. After years of internal arguments, confusion + dithering, the time has come for a full-fledged international boycott of Israel. Good cause for a boycott has, of course, been in place for decades, as a raft of initiatives already attests. But Israel's war crimes are now so shocking, its extremism so clear, the suffering so great, the UN so helpless + the international community's need to contain Israel's behavior so urgent and compelling, that the time for global action has matured. A coordinated movement of divestment, sanctions + boycotts against Israel must convene to contain not only Israel's aggressive acts and crimes against humanitarian law but also, as in South Africa, its founding racist logics that inspired and still drive the entire Palestinian problem...

Ground Rules Relevant to the Middle East + Statement by Leading Intellectuals on Palestine and Lebanon
Mona Baker First: The Ground Rules Rule # 1: In the Middle East, it is always the Arabs that attack first + it's always Israel who defends itself. This is called "retaliation". Rule # 2: The Arabs, whether Palestinians or Lebanese, are not allowed to kill Israelis. This is called "terrorism". Rule # 3: Israel has the right to kill Arab civilians; this is called "self-defense", or these days "collateraldamage". Rule # 4: When Israel kills too many civilians, the Western world calls for restraint. This is called the "reaction of the international community". Rule # 5: Palestinians and Lebanese do not have the right to capture Israeli military, not even a limited number, not even 1 or 2. Rule # 6: Israel has the right to capture as many Palestinians as they want (Palestinians: around 10000 to date, 300 of which are children, Lebanese: 1000s to date, being held without trial). There is no limit; there is no need for proof of guilt or trial. All that is needed is the magic word: "terrorism"...

Israel using US-supplied depleted uranium in Lebanon
Written by Israeli Committee for a Middle East Free from Atomic, Biological & Chemical Weapons The government of Israel has recently purchased from the USA bunker-busting bombs (GBU-28), for use in its war in Lebanon. These bombs contain depleted uranium - a carcinogenic substance that spreads in the form of a toxic and radioactive dust, which enters the lungs and bones and is especially harmful to babies and young children. We call on the government of Israel not to make use of these bombs. This call is of special significance on 6 August, the anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima...

The Yoke of Zion by Israel Shamir
Israel Shamir A small band of determined warriors takes on and fights off the mightiest army of the region: this is the stuff history is made of. Thermopylae, move over, Bint Jbeil is coming inBishop Philip of Antioch compared the levelling of this small Lebanese town with the destruction of Stalingrad, but these cities are also comparable by courage of their defenders. Seldom is a generation able to witness such a shining example of valour: for three long weeks a handful of Hezbollah warriors ? two thousand by the most optimistic count ? fought to standstill ten, twenty, thirty times more numerous Israeli troops. Forty years ago, Israelis defeated three armies in one week, but now the invader?s charm has worn off, or it has passed over to the vanquished. In today?s somewhat feminine victim-centred narrative, suffering attracts more attention than masculine gallantry...

More children killed in Rafah
Report, PCHR The victims of war crimes perpetrated by Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) for the third consecutive day in Rafah has increased to 16 killed, including 10 civilians (four of them children).

One of the victims was a three-day-old infant girl who fell her mother's arm as the latter was fleeing from IOF. Two other children victims were brothers. They were killed and their mother + brother were seriously injured when they were trying to flee their house. The number of injured is up to 39, including 13 children and one woman. All were injured by shrapnel and burns, many of them were injured seriously.

In the pre-dawn hours of Friday, 4 August 2006, IOF planes bombed two civilian houses in Gaza, destroying them completely. In both incidents, the house owners received calls to their mobile telephones from Israeli intelligence telling them to evacuate the house, which will be bombarded. "Kill All Military Age Men!"
America's Heroes on Trial
GARY LEUPP ...Recently acquiring more glory in Iraq, Steele has boasted of his unit's death count. Last November he declared, "We are absolutely giving the enemy the maximum opportunity to die for his country." This piece of petty bravado indicates that the colonel at least recognizes that the Iraqis he faces are indeed men fighting for their country, against an invader. What to do with these patriots, but to kill them? Recall that four U.S. soldiers have recently been charged with murdering three Iraqi civilians. It happens that they were all under the Col. Steele's command + Steele has been reprimanded in connection with the incident. Extraordinary Precision
Ramzy Baroud A SKY News newscaster, interviewing British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett on Sunday, July 30 demanded an answer to this paraphrased question: if indeed Israel had precise intelligence that a Hezbollah operative was present in the village of Qana, in South Lebanon, how could it possibly fail to realise that the area was also crowded with civilians? The question was prompted by Beckett?s insistence that while Israeli attacks that victimise uncountable civilians ? like that in Qana which killed scores, mostly children ? were "appalling", they resulted from tactical errors + were never deliberate. In fact, she referred to the "apparent deliberate targeting" - as described by UN secretary Kofi Annan ? of the UN peacekeepers compound in South Lebanon and the killing of four unarmed observers, as a "mistake."

07.Aug.2006 https://www.cannonfire.blogspot.com/ That white cat is a black cat "Half of U.S. still believes Iraq had WMD."
What an amazingly effective disinfo campaign! FOX News and other conservative outlets took some old stories about the discovery of aged chemical weaponry shells in Iraq + they twisted this factoid into the grand pronouncement that, yes indeedy, Saddam Hussein really did possess those legendary weapons of mass destruction.
Never mind the fact that we sold such weapons to him well before the first Gulf War. Never mind the fact that the chemicals had degraded and were unusable. Never mind the fact that none of this was unexpected.
Never mind all that. The Murdochians and the Dittoheads pointed to those shells and crowed: "We found 'em! Those lying libruls were wrong, wrong wrong!"
It's easy to convince people that a white cat is a black cat. All you need to do is point to some small imperfection in the fur -

- "See that spot of grey? This isn't really a white cat, now, is it?" Once you create any small degree of confusion, any opening for doubt, people will believe what they prefer to believe. Permalink

But the US had been planning to intervene in Cuba for at least two weeks before Castro’s health problems were made known.
Florida’s Republican Senator Mel Martinez reported on August 2nd that he had been briefed two weeks prior by military officials.

He said the US would send “special monitors and advisers to Cuba in the weeks after a full transition”.

Martinez said he had confidence in the Navy + Coast Guard to

“interdict vessels in the open waters between the countries” in order to “prevent Cuban-Americans from entering Cuban waters while the changes were taking shape in Havana”.
That means that all this planning and briefing was being done around July 18th. What did our State Department know on July 18th?

BP betreibe 35 Kilometer Öl-Transitpipelines in Prudhoe Bay.

“You can’t have a national unity government when there is no nation, no unity + no government,” said Galbraith.

“Rather than trying to preserve or hold together a unified Iraq, the U.S. must accept the reality of Iraq’s breakup and work with the Shiites, Kurds + Sunni Arabs to strengthen the already semi-independent regions.”

Galbraith further argues that the invasion of Iraq destabilized the Middle East while inadvertently strengthening Iran.

One of the administration's intentions in invading Iraq was to undermine Iran, but instead, the Iraqi occupation has given Tehran one of its greatest strategic triumphs in the last four centuries.

Does the NSA Need More Electricity? CmdrTaco 160 -

"The Baltimore sun (NSA watchers can't live without it) reports that the NSA worries about overloading the Baltimore energy grid if it were to install new computing capacity at it's Fort Meade HQ.

This includes two multi million dollar supercomputers. Some systems are reportedly not getting the cooling they need. The temperature in NSA buildings is raised two degrees to conserve energy, according to the article.

The NSA is Baltimore Gas and Electric`s (BGE) biggest customer the sun reports.

Former NSA employees fear that a power outage at Fort Meade would have worse consequences than the 2000 "information overload" related outage.

The NSA does apparently not have the backup power generation capacity to power the whole facility during power outages.

Some point a finger at a new mall build in the area, but a BGE spokesman says the mall is "fairly easily accommodated". Some sources say the problem was identified in the late 1990 s.

But "keeping the lights on" wasn't a priority. A $4 million computer upgrade to the system that allocates power was postponed for budgetary reasons. (the NSA budged is estimated at $8 Billion)

The article reports that the budget documents for listening posts around the world report similar infrastructural problems, in the budgets for 2007 as well as previous years.

It should be noted that the huge "groundbreaker" IT infrastructure upgrade program is reportedly over budget and late, but not yet fully operational."

Jahrhundert in Haifa.
